Glenn Beck: ‘Liberals, You Were Right,’ We Should Never Have Gone into Iraq

Glenn Beck: ‘Liberals, You Were Right,’ We Should Never Have Gone into Iraq
by Andrew Kirell | 5:59 pm, June 17th, 2014 video

Glenn Beck led off his radio show on Tuesday morning with a stirring monologue about all the ways he believes the left and right can come together to “heal” America. As part of that, Beck suggested that perhaps all Americans can come together to recognize the blunder that was invading and occupying Iraq in 2003 — an act that he now regrets having supported.

After listing the Veterans Affairs Department scandal and the fight against Common Core standards as two ways in which the left and right can unite, Beck asserted that “maybe we could come together now on this nightmare in Iraq.”

He then took a contrite tone and admitted [emphasis ours]:

From the beginning, most people on the left were against going into Iraq. I wasn’t. At the time I believed that the United States was under threat from Saddam Hussein. I really truly believed that Saddam Hussein was funding terrorists. We knew that. He was funding the terrorists in Hamas. We knew that he was giving money. We could track that. We knew he hated us. We knew that without a shadow of a doubt. It wasn’t much or a stretch to believe that he would fund a terror strike against us, especially since he would say that. So I took him at his word.

[...] Now, in spite of the things I felt at the time when we went into war, liberals said: We shouldn’t get involved. We shouldn’t nation-build. And there was no indication the people of Iraq had the will to be free. I thought that was insulting at the time. Everybody wants to be free. They said we couldn’t force freedom on people. Let me lead with my mistakes. You are right. Liberals, you were right. We shouldn’t have.

He went on to declare that “You cannot force democracy on the Iraqis or anybody else,” largely because “If people vote for Sharia Law, they vote for Sharia Law.” Considering how many hundreds of thousands of lives, and trillions of dollars spent on the war, Beck put forward the idea that maybe we should never have gone in the first place.

“I have more of a chance of hacking off my loyal listeners and audience by saying this,” he conceded, “but so be it: Not one more life. Not one more life. Not one more dollar, not one more airplane, not one more bullet, not one more Marine, not one more arm or leg or eye. Not one more.”

For his conclusion, Beck said that Republicans need to listen to their non-interventionist instincts before “politicizing” Iraq and supporting another military action simply because of politics — i.e., because the president is a Democrat. “This has to become about the principles because in the principles we all agree,” he ended. “Enough is enough. Bring them home, period.”

Republican: If a Woman Has Right to an Abortion, a Man Should Have Right to Force Himself on a Woman

Republican Maine state Representative Lawrence Lockman is under fire for comments he’s made in the media regarding rape, abortion, and homosexuality.

An investigation by Mike Tipping, an activist with Maine People’s Alliance, found numerous offensive comments made by the Republican in various newspaper interviews.

Perhaps the most inflammatory was a press statement from 1995 in which Lockman says “If a woman has (the right to an abortion), why shouldn’t a man be free to use his superior strength to force himself on a woman? At least the rapist’s pursuit of sexual freedom doesn’t (in most cases) result in anyone’s death.”

Trump to Newsmax TV: US Should Seize Iraq Oil

Trump to Newsmax TV: US Should Seize Iraq Oil

As Sunni militants reportedly took control of Iraq's largest oil refinery Wednesday, business titan Donald Trump, founder and CEO of Trump Corp., urged the U.S. government to take control of Iraq's oil Wednesday on "America's Forum" on Newsmax TV.

"I've been predicting for a long time that somebody, most likely the bad guys, are going to get the oil," he told J.D. Hayworth and John Bachman in an exclusive interview.

"And if you look at this morning, they [the Sunni militia] veered off course, and instead of going into Baghdad initially — they'll get that later, don't worry about it — they decided to do the smart thing."

That was to go after Iraq's oil. "So now they have the oil, and they have lots of land, and they have lots of support, and they have lots of money, and they have our equipment, and we're a very stupidly run country."

Iraq now exports approximately 2.5 million barrels a day of crude, and approximately 300,000 barrels of that go to the United States, according to the Energy Information Agency. Those 300,000 barrels represent approximately 4 percent of U.S. imports.

Trump says the United States never should have intervened in Iraq in the first place. "But if we were going to be there, take the oil before Iran gets it or before the other militants get it," he said.

"What happened now is the worst nightmare."

Meanwhile, Trump is not surprised with Tuesday's news that consumer prices rose 0.4 percent last month, the most since February 2013.

"I'm not surprised because our country is a mess," he argues. "Our leader is incompetent, our country is an absolute mess and we're laughed at all over the world."

Trump is spending a lot of time overseas as he works on real estate projects in the Middle East and Europe. Foreigners "have no respect for Obama, no respect for our country," he notes. "They don’t even view us as a factor anymore."

NYTimes: Captured Suspect Said Benghazi Attack Revenge For Anti-Islam Video

by AlyoshaKaramazovFollow

Ahmed Abu Khatallah, the suspect captured by U.S. special forces on Tuesday for his role in the 2012 Benghazi attack, reportedly said he was motivated in part by the anti-Islam online video made in America, according to the New York Times.

"What he did in the period just before the attack has remained unclear. But Mr. Abu Khattala told other Libyans in private conversations during the night of the attack that he was moved to attack the diplomatic mission to take revenge for an insult to Islam in an American-made online video," Times reporter David Kirkpatrick wrote in a story on Khattala on Tuesday.

A thought. If Bachmann hadn't announced her retirement ......

By Eric Cantor losing this week and Boehner saying he will step down from the Speaker-ship, does that mean we have near missed a Speaker Bachmann? Yes I know, Iowa, irregularities, resignations .... but some of these people have pulled it off before - to them and their base arrogance and sticking to their stories, stonewalling, only works to their advantage.

Canter down, McConnel gong down, Bachmann leaving, Boehner may be leaving .......

About time. Who else is leaving or going down?

Fox Analyst On VA Controversy: “Where Was The Outrage During The Bush Years?”

He won't be invited back.

Friday night, Former Lt. Col. Ralph Peters, a Fox News military analyst, offered a surprising defense of President Obama and VA Secretary Eric Shinseki over the VA scandal. Peters defended Shinseki as the media’s “whipping boy” over a long-troubled VA.

He said, “Where was the outrage during the Bush years? I’m not a defender of President Obama by any means, but this is a long-standing problem.”

Mediate reports:

He told Megyn Kelly that blaming Shinseki and booting him out would be like a patient blaming the doctor for their cancer; he’s just one administrator overseeing the problem, and even if he is at fault, he’s hardly the first VA Secretary who hasn’t done a bang-up job at the position.

Peters was bothered by how everyone calling for Shinseki’s head (including a Democrat here and there) has not gone further to make any concrete suggestions or name any names for who could replace him. He said a lot of the outrage is likely “mock” because people have known about this for years.

American Legion National Commander Daniel Dellinger argued that Shinseki is at fault because he was supposed to be different and fix the problems, but he didn’t and needs to be held accountable.

Peters found it remarkable how this has “suddenly” become a crisis.

Watch (uploaded on YouTube via Mediate):

We should all be outraged over the controversy, but fingers can be pointed at a lot of people, including the previous administration. Cuts to Veterans benefits, funding cuts for hospitals, staffing and equipment, for extended unemployment benefits, for jobs and training are also at issue so be careful where you point your fingers.

Just fix it.

security officer beating student in wheelchair at Oakland High School

OAKLAND, Calif. (KGO) --
A Bay Area student with cerebral palsy was viciously punched by a school security guard. It's a shocking attack that was caught on camera. The student was brutally beaten and thrown from his wheelchair by the school staffer who was supposed to protect him.

That security officer now faces child abuse charges and the district is taking action.

Student with cerebral palsy attacked by security guard

The Oakland High School security officer snapped and attacked a student in a wheelchair.

"The fact that it happened to a student who has cerebral palsy only compounds the damage and how awful this incident is," Oakland School District spokesperson Troy Flynt said.

On May 19 around 9 a.m., two security officers were urging several lingering students to go to class. School officials say the student either refused or wasn't moving fast enough. That's when 23-year-old security guard Marchell Mitchell began to push the student's chair. The student slaps Mitchell's hands, so Mitchell handcuffs him and continues to wheel him until the student spits in his face. That's when Mitchell starts punching the student.

"We acknowledge that there was a small physical exchange prior to the security officer essentially flipping out and attacking the student. But nothing that even remotely could have justified what occurred," Flynt said.

Oakland High School principal Matin Abdel-Qawi apologized to the school community in a letter saying, "This incident is not reflective of the kind of culture we cherish at our school or how we treat one another."

Mitchell was charged with felony child abuse and released from jail four days later. The school district says he passed a criminal background check, but now it will give security officers more training to de-escalate and defuse misbehavior.
