Man Fatally Shoots Masked Intruder Who Turns Out to Be His Dad

Source: Yahoo News

An 18-year-old St. Petersburg, Florida man woke up to someone calling his name for help, grabbed his rifle, and came out of his bedroom to find a masked man in full tactical gear and a mask pointing a handgun at his mother.

Without hesitating, Malachi Heilser shot and killed that man, who moments earlier had smashed a window from outside the home Heisler lives in with his mother, teen sister and his mother's boyfriend, according to The Tampa Tribune.

The man Heisler killed – although he said he didn't know it when he shot – was his own father, John Heisler.

What if she was armed

Suspect says he killed Dubuque woman because there “was nothing better to do”

DUBUQUE, Iowa (KWWL) – A Dubuque man said he sexually assaulted and killed a random woman Tuesday because there “was nothing better to do,” and says the victim was in the “wrong place at the wrong time,” according to the criminal complaint obtained by NBC affiliate, KWWL Wednesday. Police say a woman was found lying on the ground in the 100 block of West 17th St. early Tuesday morning with severe facial injuries. She was taken to Finley Hospital in Dubuque where she would later die of her injuries. Documents indicate there no weapons involved, and that she most likely was beaten to death. On Thursday, police identified the victim as 66 year old Nancy Ann Krapfl of Dubuque.

According to a press release from police, Helmon Betwell, 19, was arrested Tuesday night and charged with first-degree murder, first-degree sexual assault and two counts of third-degree burglary.

Betwell made his initial appearance in court this morning via video from the Dubuque County Jail. His bond is set at $1 million cash.

Why is tolerance so difficult?

While participating in this thread http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1002&pid=7143004 I encountered some quite venomous replies.

While I am Catholic, many of my in-laws are Native and follow Traditional beliefs. I have no issue standing at a Pow Wow when the benediction is given, even though I do not believe in Animism. I would no sooner touch an eagle feather without permission than any of my relatives would snatch the Host from the priest's hand at a mass. It is simply a sign of respect as a guest.

I have no need to challenge their "primitive" beliefs and they do not try and tell me I am a foll for believing in a "sky fairy".

Yet some people seem offended to their core knowing that I have a differing personal belief. I don't get it.

‘I Had to Pull the Trigger’: Santa Ana Homeowner Who Wrestled Gun From Intruder

A Santa Ana homeowner said he "had to pull the trigger" after wrestling a gun from one of two intruders who entered his home Friday morning.

Erickson Dumaual said he was lying in bed at his home in the 2500 block of Manly Avenue (map) at about 4 a.m. when two men entered his room.

One of the intruders went to his bed and demanded valuables, Dumaual said.

“The guy had a gun right at my head,” said Dumaual, who told the man he had nothing worth taking.

King cobra is on the loose in Orlando, Florida
Updated 5:49 PM ET, Thu September 3, 2015

(CNN)A word of advice to the people of Orlando: Before you step outside Thursday or send your pet out into the backyard, take a little extra time to look around first.

Especially if you live near the 4800 block of North Apopka Vineland Road.

There's a king cobra on the loose.

The snake's owner, Mike Kennedy, describes him as 8 feet long -- not very big as king cobras go -- but still a very venomous visitor to Central Florida.

SUSPECT RUNS BAREFOOT FROM POLICE AFTER HIGH SPEED CHASE IN FORT BEND COUNTY

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Another day, another police chase, but this one had a different ending.

Early Monday afternoon, a man in a red Pontiac ran from Houston police. HPD hasn't provided details on why he was being pursued. The chase began near Highway 59 and Chimney Rock, then extended to Fort Bend County.
***
The man made it to the parking lot of an assisted living center on the feeder road. SkyEye video shows him approaching a couple unloading their SUV. About that time, a white Jeep enters the picture, driven by Blake Hopson.

He saw the foot chase, saw the man running across the parking lot, and approach the truck.
"I didn't know what would happen if he got to those people," he said. So Hopson opened his glovebox, and retrieved his 45ca. pistol.

Minnesota Congressman John Kline Will Not Seek Re-Election

This will be interesting. It would be nice to grab that seat back.

U.S. Rep. John Kline said Thursday he is not seeking re-election.

Kline, who turns 68 on Sunday, did not say why he was deciding to end his career in Congress after 2016.

"Public service is an honor. I am proud to have embraced it throughout my life. Despite the serious challenges facing America, it remains the greatest country in the world and we are blessed to call it home. It has been and will continue to be a privilege serving the men and women of Minnesota's 2nd District for the next 16 months," Kline said in a statement.

Kline said a conference call with reporters that it is "just time" to retire. He said his health is good and he has no plans to run for governor or U.S. senate in 2018.

Resident Shoots, Kills Burglary Suspect In SW OKC

OKLAHOMA CITY - A burglary suspect is dead and another on the loose, after police said the victim fired shots at the two.
It happened at about 2 a.m. Tuesday at the Potomac House Apartments near S.W. 59th and May. Crime Scene tape runs all the way through the main building and through the parking lot.

When officers arrived at the scene, they determined that 24-year-old Robert McEarley was inside of his apartment when he heard a knock at the door. When he tried to see who was there, he noticed that the suspects were covering the peephole.

Police said the suspects shouted “Police” and then forced their way into the apartment. During the fight, one of the suspects was shot and killed. The second suspect ran away from the scene.
