Top Ten Conservative Idiots of the Week

The Remembering Greatness (and all it fought against in its lifetime) Edition

My heroes keep dying. First Nelson Mandela, now Pete Seeger. Here is a man that walked the talk he talked. This is a man who changed lives, worked for the betterment of all people and did his best to change things so ingrained in American psyche that a lesser man would have given up. All because he had a love and vision for this country that was more than the troglodytes that vilified him (and will even more than he has died) could ever hope to destroy. Pete Seeger was what all Americans should be. And this week, we look at 10 Republicans/Conservatives/Idiots that are specifically the thing that Pete Seeger fought again. There is no order to this week’s list. #1 is just as much the anti-thesis of the nation people like Seeger, Guthrie, Ochs, Chapin, Robeson and Ives struggled to change. And as always, don't forget the key. Remember, you can run your mouse over the icon to see what it means. At the end, the writer will give a small tribute to one of the greatest men of the past 100 years and probably his biggest hero.

L. Brooks Patterson
[div style="display:inline-block; padding-left:0.3077em;" title="Dumb"] [div style="display:inline-block; padding-left:0.3077em;" title="Spin"] [div style="display:inline-block; padding-left:0.3077em;" title="Racism"] [div style="display:inline-block; padding-left:0.3077em;" title="Partisanship"] [div style="display:inline-block; padding-left:0.3077em;" title="Loser"] [div style="display:inline-block; padding-left:0.3077em;" title="Batshit Crazy"]

First on the list of people that Pete Seeger would have despised and fought against is L. Brooks Patterson, Oakland County, Michigan executive and apparent klansman.

See, the GOP has done its best to destroy Detroit during the Great Recession and therefore take little comfort in helping the city and little effort to salvage the city. It’s better to just let the city die than to make it what it used to be. . .the shining example of labor and the labor movement.

Being pro-union, Seeger would have been against the right-to-work laws the GOP in Michigan loves, the union busting the GOP and corporate business criminals do and the racist attitudes used to support both.

But, Patterson decided to leave decency to the wolves and went on a unhinged session of insanity. Or, as the GOP goes. . .just another normal da at the office.

[div class="excerpt" style="background-color:#F4E0E0; border:1px solid #E8C0C0; box-shadow:-1px -1px 3px #C66666 inset; border-radius:0.6em; margin:0.5385em 0em 0em 0.5385em;"]A Republican county official in Michigan is in hot water after making racial comments about Detroit, including the idea that the city should be turned into a detention center for “all the Indians.”

In a recent interview for a profile by The New Yorker titled “Drop Dead, Detroit!” Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson admitted, “Anytime I talk about Detroit, it will not be positive. Therefore, I’m called a Detroit basher. The truth hurts, you know? Tough sh*t.”

Patterson recalled telling his children to “get in and get out” if they needed to go to Detroit.

“And, before you go to Detroit, you get your gas out here. You do not, do not, under any circumstances, stop in Detroit at a gas station! That’s just a call for a carjacking,” he said.

Patterson also proposed a fix to Detroit’s financial problems: Turn the city into a reservation for Native Americans.

Oh Jeez. . .what great ideas! Let’s attack black people by saying they are carjackers (and continue the institutionalized racism we have in this country, followed by the reservation comment. Maybe Paterson can expand on his idea a little.

[div class="excerpt" style="background-color:#F4E0E0; border:1px solid #E8C0C0; box-shadow:-1px -1px 3px #C66666 inset; border-radius:0.6em; margin:0.5385em 0em 0em 0.5385em;"]GRAND WIZARD PATERSON: I made a prediction a long time ago, and it’s come to pass. I said, ‘What we’re gonna do is turn Detroit into an Indian reservation, where we herd all the Indians into the city, build a fence around it, and then throw in the blankets and the corn.’

Why not barbed wire fence electrified so people get incinerated when coming within two feet of it? Gun turrets to prevent them from leaving. And tattooing their BIA numbers on their arms also?

When it dawned on this brainboy that his statements were being recorded on the record, Paterson did what all Republicans do when caught wearing their sheets instead of sleeping in them: Attacked the messenger.

[div class="excerpt" style="background-color:#F4E0E0; border:1px solid #E8C0C0; box-shadow:-1px -1px 3px #C66666 inset; border-radius:0.6em; margin:0.5385em 0em 0em 0.5385em;"]After Detroit officials and activists reacted with outrage, Patterson’s office released a statement accusing The New Yorker of having an “agenda.”

“It is clear Paige Williams had an agenda when she interviewed County Executive Patterson,” the statement said. “She cast him in a false light in order to fit her preconceived and outdated notions about the region.”

That’s how it works, folks. It isn’t the racism. It’s the “agenda” of the magazine, periodical or news agency that forces these people to expose their racism. It isn’t wrong to be an ignorant, racist toad. It’s liberal bias to report it and then get your ass handed to you.

Next up for Patterson: Going to Nanjing and telling the Chinese there that the Rape of Nanking was as much a fraud as the Holocaust, giving a rousing speech saying the Imperial Japanese Army were amazing people and then ending by saying “Anytime I talk about China, it will not be positive. Therefore, I’m called a (nasty racist word for Chinese people) basher. The truth hurts, you know? Tough shit.”

How does this party get any votes at all?

[div class="excerpt" style="background-color:#F4E0E0; border:1px solid #E8C0C0; box-shadow:-1px -1px 3px #C66666 inset; border-radius:0.6em; margin:0.5385em 0em 0em 0.5385em;"]

Next up on the list of things Pete Seeger would have fought against: Bashing, belittling the handicapped and homosexuals using God as the excuse.

Not to far away from L. Brooks Patterson is uber-loon Susanne Atanus, who is running in a primary to see who will lose to Rep. Jan Schakowsky in November. Yes, because God hates fags. . .right? I mean, that’s what Fred Phelps says, so it has to be true. Except that point about loving your neighborhood and brotherhood and peace and all that shit Jesus said that sounds good but not Christian conservative ever practices.

So, let’s look into the mind of idiocy and understand this is the modern Republican Party.

[div class="excerpt" style="background-color:#F4E0E0; border:1px solid #E8C0C0; box-shadow:-1px -1px 3px #C66666 inset; border-radius:0.6em; margin:0.5385em 0em 0em 0.5385em;"]ATANUS: "God is angry." "We are provoking him with abortions and same-sex marriage and civil unions,” she said. “Same-sex activity is going to increase AIDS. If it’s in our military it will weaken our military. We need to respect God.”

God is angry. Atanus knows. God is #4 on her speed-dial. Maybe God can call me and tell me the Powerball numbers instead of continually telling psychos like this shit that his book seems to have problems with. After all, “smiting those gayo-Americans” and those that support their desire not to be second class citizens is from the Book of. . .well, someone who knows the Bible can quote it better.

So, the next time there is a tornado someplace, or your kid has autism or Asperger’s. . .beat the shit out of a homosexual. They caused it. After all, God told Atanus this is punishment and everyone know when you speak to God, it’s called praying. . .but when God speaks to you it’s called paranoid, delusional schizophrenia.

Steve Pearce

Pete Seeger was a huge supporter and fighter for women’s rights. He and his wife Toshi fought for women’s rights for decades. So it comes as no surprise that the Republicans would be the ones to declare war on women and war on those who support women. Steve Pearce (R-NM) is a good example.

Schmucko released a book ghost written in which he demands that wives submit to their husbands. Let that sink in for a little while. Remember, this is 2014, not 1914. And a sitting member of Congress basically just stated that a woman’s place is in the home, being a slave to her husband.

[div class="excerpt" style="background-color:#F4E0E0; border:1px solid #E8C0C0; box-shadow:-1px -1px 3px #C66666 inset; border-radius:0.6em; margin:0.5385em 0em 0em 0.5385em;"]A Republican member of Congress says in a recently released book that a wife is to "voluntarily submit" to her husband, but that it doesn't make her inferior to him.

Rep. Steve Pearce's (R-N.M.) memoir, "Just Fly the Plane, Stupid!" was released last month. Its publication -- and his acknowledgment in the book of the controversial nature of the submission debate -- come as the Republican Party reevaluates how it talks to and about women.

"The wife is to voluntarily submit, just as the husband is to lovingly lead and sacrifice," he writes, citing the Bible. "The husband’s part is to show up during the times of deep stress, take the leadership role and be accountable for the outcome, blaming no one else."

[div class="excerpt" style="background-color:#F4E0E0; border:1px solid #E8C0C0; box-shadow:-1px -1px 3px #C66666 inset; border-radius:0.6em; margin:0.5385em 0em 0em 0.5385em;"]In the book, Pearce recounts his rise to owning an oil-field service company and winning election to Congress. In the book, the Vietnam War veteran says that both the military chain of command and the family unit need a structure in which everyone plays his or her role.

I see. Man = breadwinner, control, money, dictator. Woman = wet hole for sex, cook, slave, babysitter, subservient.

Where did this clown get this shit from? From CHURCH!!!
[div class="excerpt" style="background-color:#F4E0E0; border:1px solid #E8C0C0; box-shadow:-1px -1px 3px #C66666 inset; border-radius:0.6em; margin:0.5385em 0em 0em 0.5385em;"]Pearce, who is Baptist, emphasizes repeatedly in the chapter that submission doesn't mean inferiority but rather that husbands and wives play different roles. He also says it doesn't mean his wife doesn't have a say in major decisions.

"The wife’s submission is not a matter of superior versus inferior; rather, it is self-imposed as a matter of obedience to the Lord and of love for her husband," he writes.

Oh, Jesus again. He told us a woman’s place is being a slave to her husband. Damn, Jesus must have been one sexist asshole.

Realizing he was caught, Pearce did exactly what all Republicans do: Attempted to kill the messenger.

[div class="excerpt" style="background-color:#F4E0E0; border:1px solid #E8C0C0; box-shadow:-1px -1px 3px #C66666 inset; border-radius:0.6em; margin:0.5385em 0em 0em 0.5385em;"]A Pearce spokesman is out with a statement accusing the Post of "falsely and inaccurately" mischaracterizing Pearce's book.

"This was a piece of either sloppy journalism or wilful intent to deceive," the spokesman said. "The words clearly written show that Pearce believes the phrase 'submission' is widely misunderstood in society and criticizes those who distort the bible to justify male dominance."

The statement does not make clear what Pearce's office believes is inaccurate.

Okay, what does submission mean then, Stevie? Please enlighten us. Tell your mouthpiece to cram it, get in front of the mic and tell your wife, Cynthia, and all the wives in your district exactly what you meant by this bullshit. Just remember, you beat them because you love them. And if you want a wife, Steve Pearce says take lessons from cavemen from old cartoons.

The conference would last about fifteen seconds and should go like this: “I made statement in my book that are wrong, sexist and just plain stupid. As a result, I do not have the moral authority to hold this office given to me by the voters. So, I will resign effective immediately, return to the rock I crawl out from under and spend the rest of my life trying to get the foot of my mouth and my head out of my ass.”

Don’t hold your breath.

Continuing on with the women bashing comes Mike Huckabee, former Arkansas governor and completely insane.

Huckabee ran for president once or twice, got six votes and now has a crapload of street cred in Republican circles, like Frank Gaffney and G. Gordon Liddy has. So when you know Mike Huckabee speaks for the tea party and the rest of them when he says that it’s the Democrat’s fault that women think the GOP suck and their anti-woman policies are wrong. In fact, he is going to save women by telling them that they need to follow Republicans in order to learn stop being slave to their primal urges.

[div class="excerpt" style="background-color:#F4E0E0; border:1px solid #E8C0C0; box-shadow:-1px -1px 3px #C66666 inset; border-radius:0.6em; margin:0.5385em 0em 0em 0.5385em;"]Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee (R) is so fed up with the anti-Republican "War on Women" narrative that he went on a rant Thursday, accusing Democrats of trying to convince women they need the government to help them "control their libidos."

"Our party stands for the recognition of the equality of women and the capacity of women," Huckabee told his audience at the Republican National Committee's winter meeting in downtown Washington. "That's not a war on them. It's a war for them. And if the Democrats want to insult the women of America by making them believe that they are helpless without Uncle Sugar coming in and providing for them a prescription each month for birth control, because they cannot control their libido or their reproductive system without the help of the government, then so be it."

Umm. . .wow! Just wow! {speechless}

You were doing well, Mike. . .until you got to the “cannot control their libido” comment. I’m sure there are hordes of women walking down the street like sexual predators looking for a good piece of man meat to kidnap forcibly, tie up and ravish. . .and we all know that the men will fight and scream rape as it happens. Oh, what will we do for these poor men. . .all at the mercy of Evil Goddess Estrogen!?!?! I’m sure you know who those women are, Mike. Mitt Romney has files of women available.

Yeah. . .that’s why women are outraged. Thanks for the lesson, Mikey. Run for president again and get another six votes.

With supporting women’s rights comes supporting a woman’s right to do with her body as she sees fit. Recently, my wife and I had this discussion about children and while I am ready to be a father, she is not ready yet to be a mother. As stated, it is her body and I support her decision.

But apparently, a lot of people think a woman’s primary role is to be a brood mare for the State (to quote George Carlin). Lila Rose, the president of Live Action, went on Certainly Not News (that’s CNN for those who aren’t hip to the fact that CNN is most certainly not news) and proceeded to not only continue the GOP’s war on women, but introduced WMDs to the war. The topic: Abortion rights for a rape victim.

Guess where Lila Rose stands. Hint: Your first assumption is usually the correct one.

[div class="excerpt" style="background-color:#F4E0E0; border:1px solid #E8C0C0; box-shadow:-1px -1px 3px #C66666 inset; border-radius:0.6em; margin:0.5385em 0em 0em 0.5385em;"]“When a woman is raped, that’s a horrible injustice against her,” Live Action president Lila Rose told co-host Sally Kohn. “The rapist should be held to the fullest extent of the law, liable for that, culpable for that. The woman needs healing and the support of her community. But an abortion doesn’t unrape a woman. An abortion just adds more violence on top of that first she endured.”

An abortion doesn’t unrape a woman? Yeah. . .okay. So, murdering a convict felon in prison doesn’t undo the crime either. And glue doesn’t unbreak a lamp. What’s your point? Because you can’t unrape a woman, the victim must be forced to carry a child they will hate and despise and will remind them of their rapist everyday of the child’s life. Way to doom both the rape victim and the child.

The host, Sally Kohn, tried to keep the batshit crazy to a minimum and help Rose out of the skid. But Rose was having none of it. She continued turning away from the skid when the topic came to late term abortion.

[div class="excerpt" style="background-color:#F4E0E0; border:1px solid #E8C0C0; box-shadow:-1px -1px 3px #C66666 inset; border-radius:0.6em; margin:0.5385em 0em 0em 0.5385em;"]“You mentioned, Sally, late-term abortion — I want to address that real quick,” Rose told Kohn. “Late-term abortion is horrific. But all abortion is horrific. Even in the first trimester. Keep in mind: hearts beating at three-and-a-half weeks.”

Contrary to Rose’s argument, the Mayo Clinic asserted that a fetus’ heart forms around the fifth week of a pregnancy.

Oh, don’t mention science. That’s all we need. Enlightened, scientific knowledge to supercede valid political dogma and rhetoric. Besides, science, like reality, has a liberal bias. It’s all a bunch of tree hugging hippie crap.

Kohn again continued to try to right the ship, but being the boob she is, Rose needed to get in one last line before the opposing view came on.

[div class="excerpt" style="background-color:#F4E0E0; border:1px solid #E8C0C0; box-shadow:-1px -1px 3px #C66666 inset; border-radius:0.6em; margin:0.5385em 0em 0em 0.5385em;"]“We’re not gonna get into that right now,” Kohn said. “You are saying, in effect, that the rapist should have more rights than the woman.”

“Absolutely not,” Rose insisted. “The rapist isn’t allowed to kill anybody.”

Well, then that solves it. Rapists can rape, so long as they don’t kill? WTF kind of logic is that? Luckily. NARAL president Ilyse Hogue knew where to put Rose.

[div class="excerpt" style="background-color:#F4E0E0; border:1px solid #E8C0C0; box-shadow:-1px -1px 3px #C66666 inset; border-radius:0.6em; margin:0.5385em 0em 0em 0.5385em;"]“Isn’t it great that we live in a country where Lila Rose could decide where she would choose to carry her rapist’s pregnancy to term,” NARAL Pro-Choice America president Ilyse Hogue said, interjecting. “But her version of morality doesn’t actually dictate what I can choose to do in that moment. And that’s what religious liberty is about — it’s about you getting to choose what would be right for you in that circumstance I don’t get to tell you what to do, and you don’t get to tell me what to do.”

Smack and down! BTW, Seeger supported a woman’s right to choose.

[div class="excerpt" style="background-color:#F4E0E0; border:1px solid #E8C0C0; box-shadow:-1px -1px 3px #C66666 inset; border-radius:0.6em; margin:0.5385em 0em 0em 0.5385em;"]

Let’s move away from rape and talk about marriage and love. A question has always been asked, and for good reason sometimes, how much right does a father have in the pregnancy of the child? Most will say his rights stop at fertilization because it’s the woman’s body. Others will say the opposite and that both people should have a say. It isn’t an easy question to answer, but it’s one where there seems to be little ground to give on either side.

Rep. Vicky Hartzler from Missouri weighed in on this issue with the obtuseness that the modern GOP is known for. In attacking a woman’s right to choice what is right for her body without the government shoving a floor lamp up her vagina and disguising it at a medical procedure, Hartzler went all “men’s rights” on the world and said abortion robs men of their rights to be fathers.

[div class="excerpt" style="background-color:#F4E0E0; border:1px solid #E8C0C0; box-shadow:-1px -1px 3px #C66666 inset; border-radius:0.6em; margin:0.5385em 0em 0em 0.5385em;"]Speaking at the 41st annual March for Life in Washington, D.C., Hartzler opined that “abortion hurts everyone.”

“It ends a beating heart, it leaves emotional wounds with women that they carry for life and it robs men of the privilege of fatherhood,” she said. “That’s why we must do everything in our power to end this devastating practice.”

Look, Vicky. . .it must suck waking up everyday, looking in the mirror and coming to grips with the fact that you’re a self-hating woman, but just because a man has the ability to sire a baby doesn’t make him a father.

Usually political hacks hide behind the flag, the badge, the bible and children. This is a first where one hides behind men. Please continue, Vicky. Tell us what your crystal ball says about abortion.

[div class="excerpt" style="background-color:#F4E0E0; border:1px solid #E8C0C0; box-shadow:-1px -1px 3px #C66666 inset; border-radius:0.6em; margin:0.5385em 0em 0em 0.5385em;"]Hartzler asserted that if abortion hadn’t been legalized, “perhaps we would have had a cure for cancer now.”

And, think too. . .if Bush didn’t invade Iraq, all those dead GIs would have children now too. And some of them might have children that could cure cancer. Could have, would have, should have. One of the last vestiges for those with intellectually bankrupt ideas; the “if only, what if” question.

I have one. If Vicky Hartzler grew a brain and used it, would she still be a pumpkin, or would she evolve to stump?

[div class="excerpt" style="background-color:#F4E0E0; border:1px solid #E8C0C0; box-shadow:-1px -1px 3px #C66666 inset; border-radius:0.6em; margin:0.5385em 0em 0em 0.5385em;"]

New findings released Thursday by Pew showed that most Republicans think rich people are largely responsible for their socioeconomic status. They also feel the same way about poor people.
Fifty-seven percent of GOP voters said that a person is rich because "he or she worked harder than others," while just 32 percent attribute it to advantages they enjoyed. The results are almost completely flipped among Democrats.
Overall, 51 percent of Americans said that people are wealthy due to advantages in life, while 38 percent said it had more to do with hard work.

What makes this sad is that, according to wikipedia, of the 30 states below the Median Household Income national average, all but eight are red states. And of the states above the Median Household Income, all but three are blue states.

Who woulda thunk?

Social Darwinism. Ayn Rand, Milton Friedman, Reaganomics and Trickle-down supply side policies have destroyed the working man. Can anyone guess what side of the fence Pete Seeger sat upon?

Bet you didn’t know he supported the labor movement, workers rights and a progressive tax system. What a communist!

Pete Seeger was relevant in music from the beginning. He was a fixture on radios in the 1940s and continued paving the way for folk singers even a month before passing in his sleep on January 27th. Pete Seeger inspired thousands to do the right thing.

Ted Nugent has been irrelevant in music since his big “hit” Cat Scratch Fever and has been coasting on that ever since. He hasn’t produced or made one album worth a tinker’s damn in over 30 years and still his 15 minutes haven’t expired yet. Ted Nugent inspires thousands to vomit.

So, it is with no surprise that the Michigan Asshat joins the list for the following diatribe:

[div class="excerpt" style="background-color:#F4E0E0; border:1px solid #E8C0C0; box-shadow:-1px -1px 3px #C66666 inset; border-radius:0.6em; margin:0.5385em 0em 0em 0.5385em;"]National Rifle Association board member and Outdoor Channel spokesman Ted Nugent called President Obama a "subhuman mongrel" and argued that he and other liberal politicians should be punished for treason.

Merriam-Webster dictionary defines mongrel as "a dog with parents of different breeds."

Subhuman mongrel. You know, Pete Seeger said something like that once. He said Miss Jay’s son Alby had beans in his ears. “You know Alby Jay, you have beans in your ears.” He also said to FDR that he would put his reservations on hold to fight Hitler. Seeger even enlisted in the army, even though he was a pacifist and a contentious objector to war.

Teddy shat himself and did drugs to get a 4F status for Viet Nam, and now parades around like he’s a fucking viking warrior. Yet it’s liberals that are subhuman mongrels. You shat yourself for weeks to get your 4F status, asshole.

Nugent was representing the Outdoor Channel, which airs his hunting show Ted Nugent Spirit of the Wild.

Nugent and Outdoor Channel recently announced a multi-year endorsement deal where Nugent will make "talent appearances on the network's behalf at top consumer and industry trade events." In announcing the deal, Outdoor Channel's CEO said that Nugent "symbolizes everything that is right in our industry."

Remind me to boycott Outdoor Channel if Nugent is everything right in the industry. As for “talent appearances;” please explain what talent Teddy has. If being irrelevant is a talent, I hear Rob Schneider is available too. So is Patricia Heaton.

Nugent stated he would leave the country or be in prison by now if Obama was re-elected. Think it’s time to hold him to the promise.

BTW, he called Obama a mongrel. A mixed breed. I guess saying “half-breed n-bomb” would be too real, since that’s what he thinks anyway.

Pete Seeger put the class in class act. Ted Nugent puts the ASS in class.

The report is still embargoed, but someone slipped me a copy, and it's too important to wait.

Leave aside the harm cheap labor being dumped on the country does to the millions of unemployed Americans. What does it mean for the Republican Party?

Citing surveys from the Pew Research Center, the Pew Hispanic Center, Gallup, NBC News, Harris polling, the Annenberg Policy Center, Latino Decisions, the Center for Immigration Studies and the Hudson Institute, Schlafly's report overwhelmingly demonstrates that merely continuing our current immigration policies spells doom for the Republican Party.

Immigrants -- all immigrants -- have always been the bulwark of the Democratic Party. For one thing, recent arrivals tend to be poor and in need of government assistance. Also, they're coming from societies that are far more left-wing than our own. History shows that, rather than fleeing those policies, they bring their cultures with them. (Look at what New Yorkers did to Vermont.)

01: Cheap labor? These are people, you witch! Not nameless, faceless “foreigners.” PEOPLE! Get it?

02: Millions of unemployed Americans? The party to lick the ass of has been fucking unemployed Americans for years. Your party blocked EVERY jobs bill. Unless the jobs bill involves hookers and blow, Republicans obstruct it.

03: Yes. . .more left wing than us. Care to show how that’s true? Most immigrants today are from South America, East Asia, Southeast Asia and the Middle East. Uzbekistan is more left wing? Turkmenistan? Burma? China???

04: Look what New Yorkers did to Vermont. This coming from a Cornell graduate. Oh, as for Vermont. . .they are one of the highest paid states in the country. According to a Harris poll, 81 percent of native-born citizens think the schools should teach students to be proud of being American. Only 50 percent of naturalized U.S. citizens do.

While 67 percent of native-born Americans believe our Constitution is a higher legal authority than international law, only 37 percent of naturalized citizens agree.

No wonder they vote 2-1 for the Democrats.

The two largest immigrant groups, Hispanics and Asians, have little in common economically, culturally or historically. But they both overwhelmingly support big government, Obamacare, affirmative action and gun control.
Shouldn’t schools not have more unfunded mandates? Why is it now the school’s job to teach patriotism? And where do you get these numbers, Annie? Produce your evidence.

Meanwhile, 51 percent of Asians have a favorable opinion of Obamacare, 18 percent an unfavorable one. Even Koreans support Obamacare by 57 percent to 17 percent.

Overall, 69 percent of immigrants like Obamacare, according to a 2010 Cooperative Congressional Election Study.

That same survey showed that only 35 percent of native-born Americans support affirmative action, compared to 58 percent of immigrants, including -- amazingly -- 64 percent of Asians (suggesting they may not be as smart as everyone thinks).

Most East Asian nations have national, socialized health insurance. In Thailand, doctors are expensive. Most just go to a pharmacy and take the medical advice from the pharmacist. Most Thais would love to go see a doctor.

My tribute to Pete Seeger can be found here and here as well as the first song I learned on the guitar.

Mister Thompson calls the waiter, orders steak and baked potato
Then he leaves the bone and gristle and he never eats the skins;
The busboy comes and takes it, with a cough contaminates it
And puts it in a can with coffee grinds and sardine tins;
The truck comes by on Friday and carts it all away;
And a thousand trucks just like it are converging on the Bay, oh,

Garbage (garbage, garbage, garbage) Garbage!
We're filling up the sea with garbage (garbage...)
What will we do when there's no place left
To put all the garbage? (garbage...)

Mr. Thompson starts his Cadillac and winds it down the freeway track
Leaving friends and neighbors in a hydro-carbon haze;
He's joined by lots of smaller cars all sending gases to the stars.
There they form a seething cloud that hangs for thirty days.
And the sun licks down into it with an ultraviolet tongue.
Till it turns to smog and settles down and ends up in our lungs, oh,

Garbage (garbage...) Garbage!
We're filling up the sky with garbage (garbage...)
What will we do
When there's nothing left to breathe but garbage (garbage...)

Getting home and taking off his shoes he settles down with the evening news,
While the kids do homework with the TV in one ear
While Superman for the thousandth time sells talking dolls and conquers crime
Dutifully they learn the date of birth of Paul Revere.
In the paper there's a piece about the mayor's middle name,
And he gets it done in time to watch the all-star bingo game, oh,

Garbage (garbage...)
We're filling up our minds with garbage
Garbage (garbage...)
What will we do when there's nothing left to read
And there's nothing left to need
And there's nothing left to watch
And there's nothing left to touch
And there's nothing left to walk upon
And there's nothing left to talk upon
Nothing left to see
And there's nothing left to be but
Garbage (garbage...)

In Mister Thompson's factory, they're making plastic Christmas trees
Complete with silver tinsel and a geodesic stand
The plastic's mixed in giant vats from some conglomeration
That's been piped from deep within the earth or strip-mined from the land.
And if you question anything, they say, "Why, don't you see?
It's absolutely needed for the economy," oh,

Oh, Garbage! Garbage! Garbage! Garbage!
There stocks and their bonds -- all garbage!
Garbage! Garbage! Garbage! Garbage!
What will they do when their system goes to smash
There's no value to their cash
There's no money to be made
But there's a world to be repaid
Their kids will read in history books
About financiers and other crooks
And feudalism, and slavery
And nukes and all their knavery
To history's dustbin they're consigned
Along with many other kinds of garbage.
Garbage! Garbage! Garbage! Garbage!

Pete Seeger and a Top Ten Conservative Idiots Update

1st: I am done with my PhD work for now. I will write the newest Top Ten tomorrow or the next day.

2nd (and more important):

Everyone talks about Pete Seeger meaning something to them. In my early childhood, there were only three people, outside of my parents, that had a huge influence on my life. Those three were Raffi (don't laugh), Harry Chapin and Pete Seeger.

Pete was the first adult singer I ever listened to. His song about the SF Bay (Garbage) and DDT (The Cats are Scratching the Streets) profoundly impacted me at an extremely young age.

Each song turned on, in me at the young age of six, a social bearing years ahead of my age. Instead of reading the pablum that schools forced me to read, I began reading things that were considered subversive and even un-American. Pete Seeger led me to Rachel Carson. Pete Seeger led me to Ralph Nader. Pete Seeger led me to Cesar Chavez. Pete Seeger let me to Nelson Mandela.

I only lived about an hour away from Beacon as the crow flies, but once I watched him sing in Newburgh (on my side of the bridge). I couldn't have been more impacted. His hope, his love of people, his strength. . .his worldview. It brings small tears to my eyes remembering sitting in the audience and just listening to him talk, sing and interact with his fans as though he knew each of us personally. As he spoke about the Hudson River, his love of Mother Earth couldn't be more evident. His detest for things like Love Canal and the destruction of the brackish Hudson ecosystem made me look at the Upper Delaware River valley north of Port Jervis in the same light.

Because of Pete Seeger, I became an environmentalist. Because of Pete Seeger, I became a civil rights advocate. Because of Pete Seeger, I became the politcally active person I am too. While I only stand in a classroom and teach, I know I am doing with my students what Pete Seeger did to me.

As I teach my physical and human geography class and the lessons that would get me strung up in an American classroom (climate change, environmental sustainability, urbanization and land use, agriculture, social economics, environmental degradation and the human effects on the natural environment, including sensitive areas, the oceanic current belt, prevailing winds and pollution), I am reminded with each lesson the first two songs I committed to memory.

As I teach my history class, I use Pete Seeger's music to talk about the depression, the fight against fascism, the cold war and the Spanish Civil War.

Pete Seeger is the second hero of mine to pass on in as many months. I never met the man personally, but the impact his words, music, life, activism and struggle molded me into the person I am today.

Pete, this week's Top Ten is a tribute to you. It is written with you mind. You didn't know me. I didn't know you. But your impact on people like me cannot be understated.

Thank you Pete. Thank you for everything. And Godspeed.

Hitler was a Socialist. Orwell was a Communist and I don't know shit about history (pt2). His emails

Earlier, I posted This about a freeper smackdown in my international school between me (the history and geography teacher) and this Canadian Freeper from Alberta (Canada's Fresno), one of the English teachers. Please understand that most of the teachers in this school are either center-left or left wing, so this douche is alone.

Now, I want you to see into the mind of madness. Here are his emails. I ended this by saying if he can convince the PhD that runs the humanities department (and I am now the assistant head of the department) that the crap the English teacher says it true, I will incorporate it into my classes. Have fun ripping this apart. Here are all of this clown's emails.

After I said that I agreed Germany had socialized, universal coverage under the Nazis, I explained. It was started in 1871 by that great Nazi thinker Otto Von Bismarck, a full 18 years before Hitler was born in Austria and a full 49 years before the NSDAP was established.

[div class="excerpt" style="background-color:#F4E0E0; border:1px solid #E8C0C0; box-shadow:-1px -1px 3px #C66666 inset; border-radius:0.6em; margin:0.5385em 0em 0em 0.5385em;"]History was one of my best subjects in school. I also took a whole course on ideologies and wrote papers on Nazi ideology. That said, I do not touch on history in my classes. I have touched upon Greco-Roman Mythology though. However, I do teach critical thinking. That includes detecting bias and where hiding or ignoring evidence which proves otherwise. I found that the more I learned about the subject, the more I found bias there.

The quotes from Hitler cannot be any more clear. However, he did not represent the views of all in the party. That is why I am trying to say. I have no issue with the photos you provided. The sources I quoted to you say the very same thing. The Nazi party banned all that was not in full alignment with themselves. They merely replaced the trade unions with a Nazi union. This was more superficial than anything. They were still unions and unions are socialist in nature. It more of a shift of allegiance. It is like changing names in a bank or changing from Pepsi to Coke.

Homosexuals did well in Nazi Germany until they posed a threat to Hitler's power. His best friend and right hand man, Ernst Rohm was openly homosexual. There are books full of homoerotic art used a Nazi propaganda. Hitler supported it for years and tolerated it until he thought Rohm was conspiring against him. It is unfortunate that they only focus on the short period after when Hitler turned on them. Gays see themselves as victims of the Nazi party when half the party (SA) was openly gay. The same goes with socialism. Socialists want to distance themselves from the Nazi party because of the negative image Hitler carries. The revisionism of history is clear here. I am not trying to revise it. I am only bringing up what has been omitted/ignored because it does not fit the ideology of the those with a bias view of history who twist it to their favor.

Yes, healthcare was in place before the Nazi party even existed. The anti-antisemitism was in Germany long before Hitler was born, too. But of course he was not responsible for them. Nor did he stop either of them. Why? They both fit into his ideology.

I used Canada as an example of all the things you said happened to those who disagreed with the Nazi party. They all applied to me living in what you would call a welfare state.

I know you like to discuss history. I do, too. It is a hobby of mine. We can agree the scholarly thing to do is to look at the facts in entirety and realize there are interpretations of it. It seems the truth is conveniently ignored by those who see that it does not fit their ideological bias. Feminists and Marxists are famous for this style of revisionism.

Again, I am not trying to undermine what is being taught in your classes. However, would you agree the hallmarks of a socialist welfare state are public healthcare, unions, public education, and state-owned enterprises? Nazi Germany had them all. It is clear it was not universal in that beneficiaries were those who were considered good Aryan stock. How they got funds to have their welfare state is not really the issue.

I don't know where to begin with the stupid. He undermines his own argument four times. I sort of resent that a man who claims history was his best subject things he can dress down a PhD and a PhD Candidate.

After I told him to convince the department to revise history and its teaching, he took umbrage.

[div class="excerpt" style="background-color:#F4E0E0; border:1px solid #E8C0C0; box-shadow:-1px -1px 3px #C66666 inset; border-radius:0.6em; margin:0.5385em 0em 0em 0.5385em;"]welfare state
noun

: a social system in which a government is responsible for the economic and social welfare of its citizens and has policies to provide free health care, money for people without jobs, etc.; also : a country that has such a system

Meriam Webster

Britanica says pretty much the same thing.

Wikipedia says of the Welfare State in Germany:
Historian Robert Paxton argues that the welfare state was created primarily by conservatives, and usually opposed by socialists and labor unions because they thought it would distract from their mission. He cites the German welfare state set up by Chancellor Bismarck in the 1880s, and the similar version set up by Count Eduard von Taaffe in the Austro-Hungarian Empire a few years later. The British welfare state originated with the Liberal party of David Lloyd-George around 1910. Though it was true that the French welfare state originated primarily during a period of socialist political ascendency, with the Matignon Accords and the reforms of the Popular Front, it did also arise to some extent, as Paxton claims, with the Vichy regime in the 1940s.[16] Paxton goes on to argue: "All the modern twentieth-century European dictatorships of the right, both fascist and authoritarian, were welfare states…. They all provided medical care, pensions, affordable housing, and mass transport as a matter of course, in order to maintain productivity, national unity, and social peace."[17]

Is Paxton a revisionist?

Again, I ask you to read the first post on this. He quoted Goet Aly first about Nazi Welfare State. . .and when I told him the "welfare state" was not born on taxation, but one confiscation of the Jewish land, money, property and assets and redistributed to the poor of Germany. . .he comes back with the email above.

He has contradicted himself three times in this email.

After I sent him an email with all my sources contradicting him, he sends this last one.

[div class="excerpt" style="background-color:#F4E0E0; border:1px solid #E8C0C0; box-shadow:-1px -1px 3px #C66666 inset; border-radius:0.6em; margin:0.5385em 0em 0em 0.5385em;"]Naturally, as a Canadian who keeps getting called a Nazi for not accepting the welfare state and socialist policies of Canada, I would surely like to find out if such a label is justified. Being wrong is part of learning and I still consider myself a student of history. I would be grateful to see this evidence in light of the many quotes I have provided from various sources. I would like to know how me all so the sources I have used are wrong. I like I said, they all addressed the same facts you forwarded to me. The point of view that you are coming from is the same I received from my history teachers and the public school curriculum as provided by the Canadian Ministry of Education. Naturally, I am skeptical of government sources. State education is a means of propping up the state to ensure it maintains its power over the people.

I responded with the following:

[div class="excerpt" style="background-color:#F4E0E0; border:1px solid #E8C0C0; box-shadow:-1px -1px 3px #C66666 inset; border-radius:0.6em; margin:0.5385em 0em 0em 0.5385em;"]Primary sources are not government sources. . .and government sources come from private historians.

I will disagree with everything. Thank you for bringing this to my attention, but I do not feel it is useful in my class at the present time.

The problem with arguing with a Freeper, teabagger or dittohead is it's similar to arguing with a howler monkey. All the monkey will do is scream, scream louder and throw shit at you, until you get tired and walk away. And then they will stand and act triumphant.

Sometimes, there is small satisfaction to handing a conservaturd his ass on a platter.

Hitler was a Socialist. Orwell was a Communist and I don't know shit about history.

I finally got the treatment. I got the conservaturd co-worker treatment. Please allow me to rant because I am on edge right now. I am pissed off. So the language will be caustic.

I am getting my PhD in China in Chinese History. My first Master's Degree was in Ed. Leadership. My second was in adolescent psychology. I double majored in history and poli sci, and double minored in Philosophy and Geography as an undergraduate. This is my educational background as a history teacher at an international school in China. MY department chair (the other history teacher) has a PhD in Medieval History, a JD from Uni. of Arkansas, an MA in history and a BA in history from Cambridge. Both of us are on the same page educationally and politically.

The chemistry teacher and biology teacher (both vehement liberals) and I are discussing Nazi Germany at lunch. In comes one of the English teachers (for the sake of argument, let's call him DB as in douchebag). So, DB comes in and asks to sit. We oblige and people continue the discussion. After a minute, he pops up that: "You know, Hitler as a socialist!"

Oh no. . .not this shit again. I've heard this meme for years.

Anyway, I tell him no, one of Hitler's aims was to destroy communism and Hitler's political association of Fascism makes socialism impossible. He goes into "they had socialized medicine." I tell him socialized medicine doesn't make someone a socialist. Then he goes into how socialists and communists are the same (they aren't), how his home of Canada is a communistic state (it isn't) and how George Orwell supported communism. I tell him that Animal Farm was the 1917 Russian revolution, that Napoleon was Stalin, the horse was the worker, the pig that was killed was Trotsky and the dogs were the KGB. He tells me George Orwell was a communist. I tell him 1984 was an attack on communism (and all totality in politics actually), then leave and go teach my students that the Road to World War 2 (the lesson was on Czechoslovakia).

After I leave, the discussion continues. The chemistry teacher (one of my best friends) comes up and says that after I left, the English teacher kept on about things, stating "It's a fact that Orwell was a communist, Hitler was a socialist and (me) doesn't know shit." CHALLENGE!!!

I start going through my archives and my documents. Then, the English teacher continues by coming to my desk and telling me that Mussolini and Hitler weren't buddy/buddy. I tell him who told him that? HE said he read it. I ask for the book. (Keep in mind, I just taught four days earlier, a lesson on the Spanish Civil War and Ethiopia).

After that, he sends me an email about a book by Goet Aly about the German welfare state in Nazi Germany and that this book proves it exists. Five seconds on wikipedia to look up who the author is and I come up with this as a response.

The "welfare state" you talk of was not a true welfare state. Welfare States and their redistribution of wealth ideas come from taxation. That's NOT what happened. The Nazi "Welfare State" moved the poor and allowed them social upward mobility, but the ability to do that was taken from the Jews and the "sub-humans" that were not fit to live. Fascism was still the political theory with Capitalism as the economic philosophy. Socialism only applies to the redistribution of wealth taken from "parasites" and given to Germans. Taxes paid for NONE of it.

Again, Nazi Germany was NOT a welfare state, nor was it socialist. The Socialism is a brand name, unless socialism means confiscating from people, denying them their rights to life then exterminating them. Then you're correct.

Okay. . .point proven. He then replies into this long, talking point missive that is some of the most insane shit in the world. Feminists beat him up, he lost in court because the judge was feminist, Socialists in Canada got him fired because he wanted private insurance, Hitler was a socialist because of the name of the party (now a new line of attack) and that he doesn't trust the news, even Fox News, because it's too liberal for him. He claims everything in statist. At the end, he claims that Hitler loved socialism and brings up Ernst Rohm, leader of the SA. Rohm "criticized Hitler for not being socialist and Hitler had him killed, which proves Hitler was socialist.

An email response to everything he said came next, complete with copies of primary sources, digital copies of primary cartoons and this email, refuting everything he said:

Please look at the photos from my lessons (that (my department chair) has used for years that I teach and have added to as well).

1: Yes, Germany had socialized, universal coverage under the Nazis. It was started in 1871 by that great Nazi thinker Otto Von Bismarck, a full 18 years before Hitler was born in Austria and a full 49 years before the NSDAP was established.

2: I don't care about Canada or the Canadian experience. When it's in the lower 48 and Hawai'i and Alaska, I'll be concerned.

Your assertions are not valid. This email is mostly primary sources from the era, as well as the work in lessons (my department chair) and I worked together with our resources, to make.

Please explain to (my department chair) why he is wrong in stating that the Nazis were not Socialists. Please trying to revise history. And please do not teach this in your classes, as this is detrimental to (my department chair) and my teaching of OUR subject.

That last part is added because he is actively trying to refute everything I say in my HISTORY CLASS in his ENGLISH CLASS. I hope my department chair and this clown talk. It will be entertaining, because as my department chair states, "I am 57 years old. I have no tolerance for idiots anymore. If you are and idiot, go away." When I told him what the English teacher was doing, he just muttered, with pure venom under his breath, "he needs to stay out of my fucking classroom."

No response to my email yet. And I don't want one. What a psycho. BTW, my admin knows and is documenting.

For someone who has limited access to western news due to location, Jahi McMath. Please help

me understand what happened to this poor child to put her into this sad, deplorable state.

I am not talking the political football she is about to become. . .I mean how did something routine turn so viciously deadly?

Or am I missing something that the spin machine news media isn't telling me.
