He had low approval numbers and still won the presidency. There are a lot of people who don't like Trump, but voted for him because he was the Republican. They will do the same in 2020. However, These low numbers do show that he is vulnerable to a primary challenge. He won't be able to win by plurality against a dozen opponents like he did in 2016.

"It's my heritage!"
The "It's my heritage!" is a dumb argument that these people like to make to show that these confederate symbols have nothing to do with racism. But that heritage would be one of treason and fighting against the United States. The same people who love these symbols are the same people who are mad at Colin Kapernic.
Confederate Generals more glorified
It seems like Confederate generals are glorified more than their Union counterparts. You take Robert e lee for example, his supporters have spun history to make it seem like he was this Nobel person who didn't believe in slavery and wasn't racist. He was just standing up for his state. And that he was a better general than Grant, but just didn't have the resources.
"Many sides"
By saying many sides Trump is catering to his racist white base. These people are suburbanites or live in rural areas who don't necessarily identify themselves with the alt right, neo nazis, or KKK but who also resent "the others" for a variety of stupid reasons. These people are the ones I fear and are scarier than the racists who were in Virginia today.
Just imagine
If black men went around dressed and armed like the alt right protesters were.
Venezuela?
So because his domestic agenda isn't going well, and because of the Mueller investigation Trump is trying to change the subject and look tough with not just North Korea, but now Venezuela.
