I sincerely apologize for ever doubting Nancy was the right choice for speaker. A boatload of congressmen should too since I’m just some guy.

Aawww don’t be hard on yourself, it’s human nature to question things, especially when there is a lot a stake, I.E. position of house speaker...the fact that you questioned the competency of leadership puts you ahead of every single Trump supporter on the planet

Yeah, I questioned her based on my still-held option that she & the rest of the Dem Boomers aren’t developing Millennial talent or letting Gen X talent shine.

But when the new Congress assembled, it was clear that in these trying times, we have to have her experienced leadership

Agreed, experience is key right now. I figured since Nancy has 5 kids and 9 grandkids, she is the best person to deal with the toddler in chief...although, my daughter turned two on the 12th, and she is actually more mature than Trump

Reliving this makes me so angry.

The indictment reports that Corsi and Stone decided to instigate the “Clinton is sick” lie on August 2. By August 15, Trump was making it a regular part of his campaign. Clinton’s campaign tried to counter the narrative, but media ignored her and ran with it anyway.

So infuriating. And when they all go down, the people who voted for him will deflect, try to take zero blame and fault Hillary Clinton for being unlikeable, the worst candidate, etc., when of course, he was, and she warned us, but they ignored it, voted for him because #misogyny.

Wikileaks also ran a poll (a poll!) about Clinton’s health around that time, asking voters to speculate on the nature of the illness.

Shutdown now squeezing seniors, families in subsidized housing

The partial federal shutdown struck just as Willie J. Donaldson began to believe he could save his home from foreclosure.

A stroke weakened his legs and forced him from his job as a maintenance worker. Unemployment and medical bills put the Bainbridge man tens of thousands of dollars behind on his mortgage payments. Donaldson, 61, lost hope until a pro bono lawyer found a state program that could save his home.

The catch is that to ensure he qualifies for the program, Donaldson needs to submit information from the U.S. Department of Agriculture rural housing program that helped him buy his home. When his lawyer calls, all she gets are recorded greetings that say the office is closed.

Donaldson’s home is scheduled for foreclosure Feb. 5. If he loses it, he has nowhere to go, he said.

“Day and night and all the time, that’s what I worry about,” he said.

The more than 135,000 low-income Georgia households that rely on the federal government’s vast system of affordable housing subsidies are beginning to feel the sting of the partisan budget impasse that has now stretched 34 days. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development furloughed roughly 95 percent of its employees, including most of its health and safety inspectors, according to the department’s contingency plan.

GOP senators read Pence riot act before shutdown votes

Source: theHill

By Alexander Bolton - 01/24/19 06:34 PM EST

.......................

Republican senators, including Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (Ky.), warned the vice president that prolonging the shutdown is not a smart political strategy, in hopes of sending a clear message to President Trump that he needs to resolve the crisis as soon as possible.

..................................

One GOP senator said lawmakers told Pence “the shutdown needs to come to an end, this is not a strategy that works [and] we never should have had a shutdown in the first place.”

Pence in turn told them that “the president is interested in striking a deal,” according to the source.
..................................
One of the most remarkable moments during the Senate luncheon came when McConnell told Pence that shuttering the government to try to secure funding for a border wall was not a smart approach.

“McConnell talked about how we need to bring this process to a close; we should never have had a shutdown; they don’t work; I’ve said this numerous times; I don’t know how many times I’ve told you there’s no education in the second kick of a mule,” said a GOP source familiar with the meeting.....................................

Mitch complained before the shutdown that it was a wrong move---then he remained steadfast to Trump and now he is complaining to trump.

Senate Democrats reject Trump's 'pro-rated' wall funding pitch

Source: The Hill

By Jordain Carney - 01/24/19 08:57 PM EST

..................................
A spokesman for Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) said Thursday Senate Democrats won't support funding for the U.S.-Mexico border wall "prorated or otherwise.”

"Sen. Schumer and Senate Democrats have made clear to Leader McConnell and Republicans that they will not support funding for the wall, prorated or otherwise," the spokesman said.

Trump floated the idea on Thursday after the Senate rejected two bills to fully reopen the government, a quarter of which has been closed since Dec. 22. The first measure blocked by the Senate would have provided $5.7 billion for the wall. The second measure would have temporarily reopened the government through Feb. 8, but did not provide additional wall funding.

Trump told reporters at the White House he would consider legislation with a “prorated down payment for the wall” but did not specify a dollar amount.

............................
Pelosi told reporters that Trump's proposal is "not a reasonable" one.

Fox News reporter stunned after Trump-backed bill gets less votes than the Dems’ bill in GOP-led Senate

Sens. Lamar Alexander (R-TN), Susan Collins (R-ME), Cory Gardner (R-CO), Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), Johnny Isakson (R-GA), Mitt Romney (R-UT) all supported the Democrat’s plan, which was presumably an unexpected outcome. The president’s measure also wasn’t supported by Sens. Mike Lee (R-UT) and Tom Cotton (R-AR), but they failed to vote for the Democratic proposal as well.

The procedural vote needed 60 senators to support but only garnered 52. If Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) brought the bill to the floor, it would have passed and the shutdown would have ended. Instead, it heads into the 35th day.

At one point during the vote, Sen. Roy Blunt (R-MO) crossed the aisle to speak to Democrats, who had come onto the Senate floor to lobby on behalf of their House bill.

Doocy showed video of Sen. Chris Coons (D-DE) saying that the one good thing the vote did is show the president that his idea is not a popular one, even among his own party.

“We have no idea what comes next,” said. Doocy................................

Fox News reporter Peter Doocy was floored after President Donald Trump’s bill failed to score more votes than the Democrats’ bill in the Republican Senate.
