Source: wgntv.com

Updated at 01:00PM, October 28, 2019

CHICAGO — Following President Donald Trump’s remarks at the International Association of Chiefs of Police Conference, he headed to his riverfront hotel and tower for a political fundraiser where he was met with protesters.

For the president’s opponents in Chicago, the building at 401 N. Wabash has come to symbolize the administration and has been a center of protests on a variety of issues – from immigration to climate change to gun violence.........................
........................

A republican official said the luncheon has raised $4 million for “Trump Victory,” ...........................................

The president didn’t come in contact with protesters,..........................

“The main reason that we are coming out today is because Trump likes to paint a picture of our city as some other place. He loves to paint it as a third world country. It’s not a country it’s part of the U.S. It’s part of what we all support and know and love as the true values of the nation,” said Marj Halperin a board member with Indivisible Chicago.

..................................

The police department said they could have up to 1,800 additional officers on the streets for the president’s visit.........................................

Trump threatens to drop Isis fighters 'right at UK border' and leave Britain to 'have fun capturing them again'

Latest threat comes after Kurds warn they will not be able to maintain security at Isis camps amid Turkish attacks

...........

Speaking at a press conference where he announced the death of Isis leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the US president called European nations a “tremendous disappointment”.

After thanking Russia, Turkey, Syria and Iraq for assistance in the operation, Mr Trump said he had personally pressured EU countries to take back Isis members.

“They came from France, they came from Germany, they came from the UK. They came from a lot of countries,” he added.

“And I actually said to them, if you don’t take them, I’m going to drop them right on your border and you can have fun capturing them again.”

Mr Trump suggested that if detainees escape Kurdish-controlled camps, the US will not “capture people that want to go back to Germany, France, UK and other parts of Europe”.

“They could walk back – they can’t walk to our country. We have lots of water in between our country and them,” he added.

House Intelligence Chair Rep. Adam Schiff says he wasn't told about al-Baghdadi operation

Source: abc

Oct 27, 2019, 11:11 AM ET

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and House Intelligence Committee Chairman Rep. Adam Schiff were not informed in advance of the U.S. special operations forces raid in northwestern Syria in which ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi died, Schiff said on ABC’s "This Week"

"My understanding [Pelosi] wasn’t [told]. But a couple of things, first of all, good riddance. [Al-Baghdadi] was a blood thirsty killer to the degree that he retained operational control of ISIS, Schiff said. "This is an operational success, this is a symbolic victory. He had the blood of thousands and thousands of people on his hands, including many Americans and American journalists. So, this a great day, a ruthless killer has been brought to Justice. "

Gordon Sondland Told Congress There Was Quid Pro Quo In Trump's Ukraine Scheme

Source: TPM

October 27, 2019 11:06 am

Ambassador to the European Union Gordon Sondland confirmed to House impeachment investigators during his testimony on October 17 that there was a quid pro quo in President Donald Trump’s dealings with Ukraine, according to Sondland’s lawyer.

The Wall Street Journal reported on Saturday night that the lawyer, Robert Luskin, had told the outlet his client had answered in the affirmative when a House member asked if Trump’s demand that Ukraine investigate 2020 Democratic candidate Joe Biden and Ukraine’s alleged election interference in 2016 in exchange for a White House meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky amounted to quid pro quo.

Luskin said that in Sondland’s response to the question, the ambassador “cautioned that he wasn’t a lawyer but said he believed the answer was yes,” in the Wall Street Journal’s words.

.......................................

Acting Ambassador to Ukraine Bill Taylor testified last week that Sondland had told him the nearly $400 million in congressionally-approved military aid to Ukraine had been held up over Trump’s demand that Zelensky publicly announce an investigation into his 2020 rival Joe Biden and his son, Hunter..........................................

Kamala Harris drops out, then rejoins HBCU event after Trump honor

Columbia, SC — Oct 27, 2019, 11:33 AM ET

.............. Controversy initially ensued after President Trump delivered a keynote speech at the college before accepting an award from the 20/20 Bipartisan Justice Center for his work on criminal justice, on Friday.

As friction grew over Trump’s honor, it was announced that the 20/20 Bipartisan Justice group would step aside from the candidate forum. Harris then agreed to appear at the event as planned.

In a statement to ABC News, Benjamin said that Benedict College had taken "full operational control" of the candidate forum.

"We’ve been trying to work earnestly and in the long-term interests of Benedict College," Benjamin said.

After she agreed to rejoin, she thanked Benjamin in her speech for his leadership and his rebranding of the forum.

"Let’s just deal with the elephant in the room which is the events of the last 24-48 hours," Harris said. "Mayor Benjamin called me and told me that it was shifting and it was going to change ... that it was only right and a reflection of this most honorable institution that it would be opened to students, this event, that it would not be a paid event and that everyone would be able to participate," Harris said.

State Department official appears under subpoena as part of impeachment probe

Philip Reeker, the acting Assistant Secretary of European and Eurasian affairs and a former ambassador, appeared with his lawyer on Saturday for a nearly nine-hour, closed-door interview with the three House committees leading an impeachment inquiry into President Donald Trump after, according to documents previously obtained by ABC News, he had been subpoenaed.

In testimony on Saturday, Reeker said he thought there was no credence in the attacks on the former U.S. ambassador to Ukraine, Marie Yovanovitch, a source with direct knowledge of his testimony told ABC News.

Reeker, flanked by security as he left his deposition, did not answer questions from reporters.

Reeker began his current position in March, around the same time claims began swirling against Yovanovitch. Sources familiar with the matter told ABC News the committees asked Reeker questions about the former ambassador.........................................
