Joyce Vance says members of Congress can not be prosecuted for actions they take in the course

of their legislative work!!
Ok. Then the Repugs who stormed the meeting need to be at least censored!

Joyce—- why weren’t they arrested? Jane Fonda was arrested for peaceful protest. Bringing cellphones in where classified materials were? Shouldn’t they lose their jobs? What is POSSIBLE in terms of repercussions? There MUST be SOMETHING or they will just be emboldened.

The Speech or Debate Clause of the Constitution says members of Congress can’t be prosecuted for actions they take in the course of their legislative work. But they can be censured by Congress.

Graham nixes plan to send Pelosi letter warning GOP won't convict Trump

Source: The Hill

By Jordain Carney - 10/23/19 06:41 PM EDT

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) said on Wednesday that he was dropping a plan to send House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) a letter warning that Republicans wouldn't remove Trump from office over a Ukraine phone call.

Graham, asked about the letter, told reporters that he was instead going to offer a resolution condemning the House's impeachment inquiry process.

"No, I'm going to do a resolution saying that the process I think is unfair," Graham said, asked if he was still sending the letter to Pelosi.

Graham first floated the letter earlier this month during a "Fox & Friends" interview, saying that he was going to ask other Senate Republicans to sign a letter to Pelosi saying that they "do not believe the transcript of the phone call between the president and the Ukraine is an impeachable offense."..................................

'Human scum!' Trump issues threat against Romney and other moderate Republicans as impeachment talk

‘Human scum!’ Trump issues threat against Romney and other moderate Republicans as impeachment talk grows louder

Published 1 min ago on October 23, 2019

President Donald Trump issued a threat against wobbly Republican senators as impeachment heats up.

GOP Whip John Thune (R-SD), the second-ranking Senate Republican, admitted Wednesday that former Ukraine ambassador Bill Taylor’s testimony was “not a pretty picture,” and the president sent out a warning to him and Sen. Mitt Romney (R-UT) not long after.

“The Never Trumper Republicans, though on respirators with not many left, are in certain ways worse and more dangerous for our Country than the Do Nothing Democrats,” Trump tweeted, and then pinned to the top of his Twitter feed. “Watch out for them, they are human scum!”

Trump lawyer says president Trump couldn't be prosecuted for shooting someone on Fifth Avenue

Trump lawyer says president couldn't be prosecuted for shooting someone on Fifth Avenue

https://thehill.com/regulation/court-battles/467108-trump-attorney-president-could-shoot-someone-on-fifth-avenue-and-not

By Harper Neidig - 10/23/19 12:20 PM EDT

An attorney for President Trump told a federal appeals court Wednesday that Trump could not be prosecuted even if he shot someone on Fifth Avenue in New York amid a legal fight that seems destined for the Supreme Court.

Trump's personal attorney William Consovoy made the remark during oral arguments in a case involving a Manhattan District Attorney subpoena seeking Trump's tax returns and financial records from his accounting firm. The president's attorneys have argued he has blanket immunity from criminal prosecution and even investigation while in office.

Attorneys and the three-judge panel for the 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals, all of whom were appointed by Democratic presidents, frequently referred to Trump’s assertion from his 2016 presidential campaign that he could “stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot someone” without losing supporters.

Judge Denny Chin asked Consovoy how such a scenario would work under the president’s claims of executive immunity from prosecution and investigation.

“What’s your view on the ‘Fifth Avenue’ example?” Chin asked. “Local authorities couldn’t investigate, couldn’t do anything about it?”

“Nothing could be done, that’s your position?” he added.

“That is correct,” Consovoy responded.

The case stems from a subpoena that Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance issued to the accounting firm Mazars seeking the same financial records that are at the heart of separate court battles involving two Democratic-controlled House committees.

The Manhattan District Attorney's office accused Trump of "making up" claims about his tax returns and other financial records that do not exist in the law.

Carey Dunne, a lawyer with the office, pushed back aggressively against arguments that Trump's records were protected under the Constitution.

“There is no privilege for tax returns, whether it's the president or anybody else in the country,” Dunne told the judges. “Yes, he may view them as embarrassing or sensitive. But yes, tax returns do in fact get subpoenaed all the time in financial investigations.”

“They're making this up, Your Honor, that's all I can say,” Dunne added...........

Conservative Republicans unveil Obamacare replacement plan

Source: cnn

Updated 11:00 AM ET, Tue October 22, 2019
Cillizza on Trump's plan: There is no plan

(CNN)Months after President Donald Trump declared the GOP would become the "party of health care," House conservatives are set to announce a sweeping health care proposal -- one that has virtually no chance of becoming law.

The Republican Study Committee on Tuesday unveiled what members described as a "framework," nine months in the making, even as the White House continues to develop its own set of principles behind closed doors. It includes no legislative text and does not have the formal backing of the White House or broader GOP conference. The conservatives behind it hope the plan could help inoculate Republican congressional candidates against the perception that Republicans have no ideas for fixing a system they've vowed to destroy.

But the proposal comes as the attention of Washington is focused squarely on the mushrooming impeachment scandal engulfing Trump's presidency. And it recycles some of the policies that Republicans tried and failed to advance during the 2017 health care debate, when they controlled both chambers of Congress. That raises questions about how they plan to get a different result a second time around.

The conservative caucus says its plan, titled "A Framework for Affordable, Personalized Care," will protect coverage for those with pre-existing conditions, a top priority for many Americans. The concern that Republicans would weaken the Affordable Care Act's protections helped doom the GOP plan to repeal and replace the law in 2017 and was one reason Democrats, many of whom ran campaigns focused on health care, recaptured the House in the 2018 midterm elections.

The plan contains several elements that were in those 2017 replacement proposals, which narrowly fell short of enough Republican support to pass the Senate at the time. It would create federally-funded, state-run insurance pools to cover people with high-cost illness. For instance, states could establish high-risk pools, which existed before the Affordable Care Act with mixed levels of success, or institute reinsurance programs to stabilize the health care market. .................................
