Internet mocks Trump for big Kentucky loss with #ByeByeBevin: ‘This is where you pretend you never met Bevin’

..................Trump’s reelection campaign put out an extremely odd statement to try to change the narrative from Trump’s inability to help boost a Republican governor over the line in ruby red Kentucky.

“The President just about dragged Gov. Matt Bevin across the finish line, helping him run stronger than expected in what turned into a very close race at the end,” said campaign manager Brad Parscale. “A final outcome remains to be seen.”

In actuality, Trump’s visit may have actually narrowed the slight lead Bevin had heading into the race. Besides being an embarrassing episode for a President who considers himself a kingmaker,
Beshear’s apparent win has also bolstered Democrats who fretted that the impeachment inquiry would be costly in political capital. And while the Beshear win may be an outlier in the state — all other Kentucky Republicans running in statewide contests won — Democratic victories in places like the Virginia statehouse and Philadelphia suburbs strengthened that narrative.

As Kentucky's Shadow Looms, Trump Scrambles To Avoid Recurrence In Louisiana

Source: TPM

November 7, 2019 8:11 a.m.

A sweaty President Donald Trump, flanked by the mustachioed stars of “Duck Dynasty,” took to the stage last night to lend his support to Republican Eddie Rispone, the candidate trying to unseat Democratic Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards in a runoff election.

Trump served up his usual helping of “Democratic hoaxes,” whistleblower “coups” and “deranged” impeachment proceedings to an adoring crowd clad in red hats and bearing signs of “[insert particular demographic] for Trump.”

But despite the all-business-as-usual appearance of the rally, a Kentucky-shaped pall hung over the room as next Saturday’s election inches closer.

Despite his blustering tweets to the contrary, Trump realizes — and even warned before a ballot was cast — that Gov. Matt Bevin’s (R) loss to Democratic Attorney General Andy Beshear Tuesday night was a direct commentary on the limitations of his coattails. Just a day before Kentuckians took to the polls, Trump was giving a similar speech before a similar crowd, endorsing another candidate who crafted himself in the President’s image.

......................................................

Now, Trump has gone all in again. He has another trip planned to Louisiana two days before the runoff election on the 16th, and will attend the barn burner LSU-Alabama game this Saturday — coincidentally, the last day of early voting.

For the first time in nearly 40 years, Democrats have taken control of Columbus, Indiana—the hometown of Vice President Mike Pence.

On Tuesday, Columbus voters saw four Democrats elected to City Council seats, with only three Republican incumbents claiming re-election victory.

...............................

In a statement, the Indiana Democratic Party celebrated the fact that "Democrats flipped the council in Columbus—hometown of the former governor and Vice President and won commanding majorities in Portage and Evansville."

"The victories underscore the shifting dynamic in the Indiana suburbs," the group said.

Bill Barr planning to roll out report to discredit Russia investigation before Thanksgiving: report

Source: Raw Story

Published 4 hours ago on November 6, 2019 By Matthew Chapman

On Wednesday, the Washington Post reported that the Justice Department, under Attorney General William Barr, is working to wrap up and release its report on the beginnings of the FBI’s Russia investigation before Thanksgiving.

The report, based on the work of both U.S. Attorney John Durham and DOJ Inspector General Michael Horowitz and anticipated eagerly by President Donald Trump’s political allies, is expected to be critical of the process used by investigators — which Trump is likely to use to try to discredit the findings of the Russia probe altogether. Recent reporting has suggested that the DOJ’s probe into the Russia investigation is now also a criminal matter.

A meeting will take place on Wednesday between Barr and Senate Judiciary chairman Lindsey Graham (R-SC) about how this report, which is fraught with classification issues, will be released to the public consistent with national security.

Barr’s singular focus on this investigation has opened him to accusations that he is trying to weaponize the DOJ against law enforcement and intelligence officials who criticized Trump. Barr adamantly denies this, claiming that Durham — a longtime career prosecutor — is independent..............................

Trump Senate Loyalists Mull Plan to Call Bidens for Any Impeachment Trial: Report

Source: dailybeast

SCORCHED EARTH Tom Sykes Published 11.06.19 8:45AM ET

Top Senate Republicans are mulling an explosive plan to call Joe and Hunter Biden as witnesses in any impeachment trial of Donald Trump. The idea is reportedly being championed by Sens. Rand Paul of Kentucky and John Kennedy of Louisiana, who discussed the possibility of summoning the Bidens at a private lunch last week. Paul was apparently sufficiently emboldened to publicly call for Hunter Biden to be subpoenaed at a campaign rally with the president Monday in Kentucky. While the bare-knuckle tactic may be popular with Trump loyalists who believe the collateral damage could hurt Democrats, many traditional Senate Republicans told the Washington Post they fear the strategy is inappropriate and could backfire.

Trump Campaign's Meal Contests Are 'Out-and-out Fraud' if Nobody Wins, Says Ex-White House Lawyer

Source: newsweek

By Shane Croucher On 11/6/19 at 10:51 AM EST

If the Trump 2020 campaign is holding phony contests to raise money by offering a prize of meeting President Donald Trump that is not honored then it is "out-and-out fraud," a former White House lawyer said, and could lead to prosecutions.

The Popular Information newsletter reported that the Trump campaign has held 15 contests since 2018 offering the prize, which includes a meal, travel and hotel expenses, and a photo with Trump for the winning donor.

Other campaigns have used the same cash-raising tactic, including those of Jeb Bush, Barack Obama, Elizabeth Warren, and Pete Buttigieg. These contests are typically followed up with an announcement of a winner and images from the meal.

But there appears to be little, if any, public evidence of any winners to date of the Trump campaign's contests, raising questions about who has won the prizes.

When asked for comment, Kayleigh McEnany, national press secretary for Trump 2020, directed Newsweek to a tweet by the campaign's communications director, Tim Murtaugh. "People win the contests each time," Murtaugh tweeted, without elaborating further..............................

Trump to Lead 100th Veterans Day Parade in New York

Source: dailybeast

Barbie Latza Nadeau Published 11.06.19 8:34AM ET

Donald Trump will finally get his wish when he kicks off the 100th annual Veterans Day parade in New York City on Monday. Before he became president, Trump donated huge sums of money to the veterans group that organizes the annual parade in hopes he would be named grand marshal—which the New York Post reports never happened. The president and first lady are expected to kick off the event and lay a wreath at the Eternal Light Memorial at Madison Square Park. “The president has been great supporter of our veterans and indeed this parade here in New York City for more than 25 years,” said Bill White, 2019 Veteran’s Day Parade co-producer. “What he is doing now as president with regard to veterans choice, funding our military, and holding them and their families in the highest regard is truly extraordinary. He is loved by our veterans for sure.” Trump has been booed several times as he’s made public appearances in recent weeks, including at a pro-wrestling event and a World Series game

Seems like a rather quick decision. But maybe I am wrong as I have not heard anything about the nyc parade.

................As a private citizen, Trump stepped up to raise or donate large sums of money when the parade was struggling. The New York Times reported that in 1995 Trump agreed to give $200,000 and wanted to be named parade grand marshal in return, though it appears he never held that honor.

In 1985, Trump also made a $1 million donation to create a Vietnam Veterans Memorial at 55 Water St.................................

Trump won’t be marching in the parade after his opening ceremony speech. But Marine Corps Commandant Gen. David Berger will serve as honorary grand marshal and will lead a contingent of Marines up Fifth Avenue.

The five other grand marshals represent five generations of service from World War II to the Iraq war, including Herschel “Woody” Williams, who was awarded the Medal of Honor for his service in the Marine Corps in World War II.

Volker testifies Giuliani hijacked Ukraine diplomacy, insisting on public probes into Bidens, 2016

Source: daily kos

Tuesday November 05, 2019 · 3:10 PM CST

In newly released testimony, former special envoy to Ukraine Kurt Volker told congressional investigators that Donald Trump's personal lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, had upended U.S. diplomacy with Ukraine by advancing debunked conspiracy theories about the Bidens and the 2016 elections. "The negative narrative about Ukraine which Mr. Giuliani was furthering was the problem," Volker said during testimony last month, explaining anemic diplomatic efforts to provide robust support for the new Ukrainian administration. "It was, in my view, it was impeding our ability to build the relationship the way we should be doing, in my—as I understood it."

The gulf between what Volker “understood” to be in U.S. interests and what Giuliani was advancing is evident throughout the testimony. Based on excerpts of the 360-page transcript released by House Democrats, Volker relayed that Ukrainian officials came to see Giuliani as the key conduit to Trump and that Volker tried, to no avail, to disabuse Giuliani of the conspiracy theories he was spreading about the Bidens and Ukrainian involvement in the 2016 elections. At one point, Giuliani even insisted on explicit mentions of the two items in a statement Ukraine was preparing to publicly commit to opening investigations of corruption in order to please Trump.

Below are some highlights from the excerpts.

Ukrainian officials clearly understood that Giuliani was the chief conduit to Trump

"The Ukrainians asked to be connected to him in order to try to get across their message of being different from the past," Volker said of the new Ukrainian administration's efforts. They believed that "information flow would reach the president" if they went through Giuliani, Volker added.
