Voter Purge Sprung In New York

In the lead up to the New York Primaries this past week, an alarming situation was discovered when hundreds of thousands of Democratic voters found themselves unable to vote for the candidates they wished. Some found themselves listed as Republicans or Independents, while others were removed from the voting rolls entirely. This voter purge hit the hardest in the borough of Brooklyn, traditionally a stronghold of Democratic values and a strong base of support for the party. That this voter purge, which affected people across the state, happened at all was a shock to elected officials and observers alike. And the voter purge happened so quickly, it was impossible to address in time before the election, demonstrating a coordinated plan behind it.

As the stories came in, what was revealed was something far more insidious than some kind of voter purge used to eliminate voters who had died or moved out of the area. Instead they found fraudulent documents with forged signatures. And when the voter purge was looked at carefully, it became clear that the purge was being very specific, targeting people by street and apartment building. And there were only a handful of people with access to the data and tools needed for performing such a well-coordinated voter purge.

Meet Diane Haslett-Rudiano

Diane Haslett-Rudiano is a name long remembered by the people of New York. Slum Lord, Real Estate Con Woman, Voter Fraud Expert, and GOP Secretary, Diane was until last night the Borough Office Chief Clerk. She found herself suspended from her position without pay for her role in the voter purge.

Sanders says he has lost primaries to Clinton because ‘poor people don’t vote’

WILMINGTON, Del. — White House hopeful Bernie Sanders said Saturday that many of his losses to Hillary Clinton in Democratic primaries were because “poor people don’t vote.”

The senator from Vermont,.....................was asked during a taping of NBC’s “Meet the Press” why Clinton had prevailed in 16 of 17 states so far with the highest levels of income inequalilty.

“Well, because poor people don't vote,” Sanders told host Chuck Todd...............

.......

..............It's not clear that larger turnout among poor voters would have actually helped Sanders against Clinton, however.

Sanders has lost Democratic voters with household incomes below $50,000 by 55 percent to 44 percent to Clinton across primaries where network exit polls have been conducted. (He has lost by a wider 21 percentage-point margin among voters with incomes above $100,000, and by 9 points among middle income voters.).........................

The former secretary of state visits key states in her quest to become the Democratic nominee for president.

By Anne Gearan April 23 at 10:50 AM

SCRANTON, Pa. — If all politics is local, Hillary Clinton is hoping she can be a local in more than one place. After a blowout victory in New York and a relentless focus on her hometown credentials there, Clinton is now playing up her ties to delegate-rich Pennsylvania.

Her father, born and reared in Scranton, “thought it was God’s country,” Clinton said Friday. “We went there every single year.”

She ended a busy day Friday with a raucous nighttime rally attended by 1,200 people — ....................

“It just brings back a flood of the best memories and the best people,” Clinton said at the rally. “This place has a lot of not just memories, but special meaning to me, and the thing I want you to know more than anything else is I will work my heart out for the people who live in Northeastern Pennsylvania,” she said. “I will be a good partner because we have work to do.”......................

.......................
At nearly every stop in the state this week, Clinton was accompanied by local, state or nationally elected Democrats, a show of institutional Democratic Party support that stands in implicit contrast to Sanders.

“I say, ‘Welcome home,’ because Secretary Clinton has Northeastern Pennsylvania blood running in her veins,” Scranton Mayor Bill Courtright (D) said at the start of Friday’s Scranton rally, as supporters held aloft a sign reading “Clinton Country.”

Sen. Robert P. Casey Jr. (D-Pa.), who also stumped for Clinton on Wednesday in Philadelphia, told the Scranton crowd that Clinton “has the character, the experience, the record” to be president.

Hillary Clinton in New Haven to draw attention to working families

NEW HAVEN – Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton campaigned in New Haven on Saturday. At a round-table event, she discussed ways to raise wages, promote early childhood education and reduce the pay gap between men and women with some of New Haven’s working families.

.............................

Clinton heard workers describe their struggles with employers, home foreclosure and low wages. Clinton said it was “way past time that we have a raise in the nationwide minimum wage” of $7.25 an hour and said the nation should support cities and states like New York and California “that are willing to put a higher floor under low-wage workers.”

On Sunday, she’ll also hold a public “get out the vote” rally in the University of Bridgeport’s Harvey Hubbell Gymnasium, which anyone can attend. That event begins at 2:15 p.m., and doors open at 12:15. You can RSVP here.

Clinton was here on Thursday as well. She held a gun violence discussion at the Wilson-Gray YMCA in Hartford in front of a crowd of about 300. On stage she was joined by a panel of locals touched by gun violence, including two people whose loved ones were killed in the Sandy Hook tragedy: Erica Smegielski, wholost her mother Dawn Hochsprung, the principal of Sandy Hook Elementary; and Nelba Marquz-Green, whose daughter Ana Grace was one of the first-graders killed. There were also three other people who have been impacted by gun violence in Connecticut, including a former gang member, a high school teacher who created the anti-gun group Mothers Demand Action, and a woman whose son was killed.

Why Tuesday Could Determine The Nominees In Both Presidential Primaries

Why Tuesday Could Determine The Nominees In Both Presidential Primaries

Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., faces a critical test of his candidacy Tuesday. His campaign says if he misses "benchmarks," it will "reevaluate."

The primary elections across six states Tuesday could decide the nominations of both parties.

That's especially true on the Democratic side. (For the Republicans, scroll down.) Bernie Sanders has come a long way, but the Vermont independent is running out of friendly states. Tuesday is no different, as all but one of the contests (Rhode Island) in these Northeast states are closed primaries.

In other words, independents can't vote. And that's a big problem for Sanders. One analysis found that as much as 40 percent of Sanders' vote total was coming from independents, as of a month ago. Three of Tuesday's states — Maryland, Delaware and Pennsylvania — also have significant non-white populations in Democratic primaries. That plays to Hillary Clinton's strength.

Clinton now has a bigger lead over Sanders than Barack Obama ever had over Clinton at any time in 2008 — more than twice as big, in fact. When all was said and done in the 2008 primary, Obama finished just 69 pledged delegates ahead of Clinton.

His biggest pledged-delegate lead was 114 after the Indiana and North Carolina primaries on May 6th. Clinton currently has a 275-pledged-delegate lead over Sanders.

For perspective, that's bigger than where Obama finished over Clinton — 238.5 ahead — with pledged and superdelegates combined. Clinton currently has a 739-delegate lead with pledged and superdelegates.

Clinton is now 80 percent of the way to the 2,383 needed for the nomination. Yes, that includes superdelegates, but they cannot be dismissed. Their votes count, and there's little reason for them to switch allegiances if Sanders does not win a majority of pledged delegates. (She's also ahead of Sanders by 2.7 million popular votes.)

Sanders and his team seem to now be getting that reality.

Interesting bit of reporting at the Willamette Weekly published today.

On Thursday, Beltway website Politico ran an item quoting an anonymous "Democratic insider" saying that Senators were trying to "nudge" Sanders out of the race. The article named two: Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Massachusetts) and Merkley. "More likely," the item says, "is a joint effort by Senators Warren and Merkley to help Bernie 'land his plane' with dignity and maximum concessions by Hillary on issues and convention programming."

Willamette Weekly followed up with Merkley’s office who politically stated in their response:

(they) did not take issue with Politico's characterization, but emphasized that the race will continue.
