Judge: Scott Walker's office must hand over records related to Wisconsin Idea changes

Gov. Scott Walker's administration must release most records related to the governor's proposed 2015 budget changes to the University of Wisconsin System's mission statement, known as the Wisconsin Idea, a Dane County judge ruled on Friday.

Tom Evenson, a spokesman for Walker, said hours later that the governor is committed to transparency and will release the records Friday.

Judge Amy Smith on Friday said Walker's office erroneously withheld 12 email exchanges and six of nine attachments sought by the liberal advocacy group Center for Media and Democracy after Walker's office proposed changing the wording of the Wisconsin Idea during the 2015 budget cycle.

The Walker administration, which pulled back on the changes, denied the group and media outlets, including the Wisconsin State Journal, access to the records by saying they were part of a "deliberative process."

Smith, in her order, rejected the governor's reasoning, saying a deliberative process exemption does not exist under the state's open records law and was not going to accept the governor's "invitation" to create a new one. ........................

What the hell are you doing, Bernie? The Vermont senator inexplicably agrees to debate Donald Trump

Sanders has nothing to gain by facing off with Trump. And it's no-lose proposition for the billionaire

Unless Hillary Clinton is indicted (which remains unlikely), Bernie Sanders will not be the Democratic nominee. It’s a tiresome task, having to make this point over and over again. But it’s necessary. Sanders continues to campaign as though the race isn’t over, and that’s understandable. There are still votes left to be cast and he has every right to lobby for as many as possible.

His campaign has made it clear the goal at this point is to secure as many votes and delegates as possible before the convention. The more successful they are, the more leverage they’ll have. If Sanders is sincere about reshaping the party and influencing the platform, this makes perfect sense. So when he says things like, “When I’m elected president, we’re going to open the Democratic Party wide open,” as he did recently at a rally in California, that’s a candidate playing to the crowd. If you’re still asking for people’s votes, you have to feign optimism. “We can’t win the nomination but I want more leverage at the convention” lacks inspiration.

So I’ve no problem with Sanders campaigning aggressively until the last vote is cast. However, if the primary aim at this point is influence over the party, burning it down is unwise. I don’t believe challenging a presumptive nominee in the primaries is wrong or counterproductive, and so calls for Sanders to pivot away from Clinton are misguided. Applying pressure on Clinton is part of the broader effort to push the party leftward.

But the latest news that Sanders wants to debate Donald Trump in California before the Democratic primary is perplexing. Wednesday night, Trump appeared on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” and was asked if he was prepared to debate Sanders. If the money was donated to a “worthy charity,” Trump replied, “I would love to do that.” Sanders quickly responded on Twitter, writing “Game on. I look forward to debating Donald Trump in California before the June 7 primary.”.................

May 26-->Poll: Donald Trump trails Hillary Clinton among Rust Belt voters

Steady as she goes..........Yet, these polls when Sanders is still hanging around are probably meaningless.

Poll: Donald Trump trails Hillary Clinton among Rust Belt voters

http://www.cbsnews.com/news/poll-donald-trump-trails-hillary-clinton-among-rust-belt-voters/

Donald Trump is trailing behind Hillary Clinton when it comes to support among middle-income Rust Belt voters, according to a new Bloomberg Politics poll.

The survey, released Thursday, shows that among likely voters with annual family incomes between $30,000 and $75,000 in Rust Belt states, Clinton leads Trump with a seven-point advantage: 46 percent to 39 percent among respondents in Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.

The support for Clinton and Trump among voters in these states, however, shows a stark divide among certain demographic lines. For instance, among likely white middle-income voters (84 percent of the poll's respondents), Trump edges out Clinton by four percentage points, 44 percent to 40 percent.

Clinton, meanwhile, dominates among women by double digits (49 percent to Trump's 34 percent), while Trump leads by a smaller margin among men.

Geographically, those who live in smaller towns and rural areas throw their support to Trump, while Clinton leads in urban and suburban regions.

On presidential qualities, Clinton is far and away viewed as the candidate with the "right temperament" for the Oval Office, 49 percent to 22 percent. Clinton is also viewed as slightly more trustworthy than Trump, 29 percent to 23 percent, but about 48 percent are not sure who should be trusted more.................

Analysis Ahead of California primary, Clinton focuses on Trump as Sanders seeks to prolong 'the Bern'

...............Clinton is aiming at presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump and the threat she says he would pose to the nation. She has honed her pitch to emphasize what she says are his failings as a candidate and would-be president. She is running on her merit, to be sure, but also as the only alternative to Trump winning the White House.

Sanders is focused on the nearly impossible task of overtaking Clinton between now and the summer convention. If he is not yet crafting an elegy for his presidential hopes, he increasingly is describing his goals as the tenets of a movement that could outlive his candidacy. He scaldingly targets both Republicans and Democrats as consumed by corruption.

“I think it’s important that people look and compare,” Clinton said Tuesday, speaking from a stage in a UC Riverside gymnasium. “Because we’re going to take on Donald Trump. He can go ahead and engage in insulting and scapegoating and demeaning and bullying people, but I think the American voter is a lot smarter than to fall for that, don’t you?”

She returned to the theme on Wednesday in Buena Park, where she said that in Trump's world, "he gets his, and you get hurt."...................
