A Native American tribe has just banned the South Dakota governor from accessing 3,500 sq miles of

(CNN)The Oglala Sioux tribe in South Dakota has told the state's governor that she's no longer welcome to access the Pine Ridge Reservation, one of the largest in the country, because she signed bills that allegedly target Keystone XL pipeline protesters.

The tribe's president, Julian Bear Runner, informed Gov. Kristi Noem of the council's unanimous decision in an open letter.

"I am hereby notifying you that you are not welcome to visit our homelands, the Pine Ridge Reservation, until you rescind your support for SB 189 and SB 190 and affirm to your state and this country that First Amendment rights to free, political speech are among the truths you hold to be self-evident," he said in the letter.

He added that if Noem did not honor the directive, "we will have no choice but to banish you."

Tribal banishment is a permanent ban from the reservation, and violations are punishable by law with fines or even jail time...............................

Donald Trump looks stupid quoting the Bible about the power of prayer, then turns to Mike Pence and says "We deserve it!" And his campaign manager, oy!

2 hours ago by Frances Langum
..........................................
Thursday was the "National Day of Prayer," a travesty of politics and a clear violation of the wall of separation between church and state.

Of course, Donald Trump and Mike Pence held a Rose Garden ceremony to commemorate it.

Trump didn't look 100% comfortable reading Isaiah 40:31 off the teleprompter: "Those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint."

Trump made the claim that God and prayer had helped him "survive" the Mueller "witch hunt."

Then he spoke to Mike Pence in the audience: "We deserve it!"

Wait, what?

Senate confirms 100th Trump judicial nominee

https://www.cnn.com/2019/05/03/politics/judges-trump-mcconnell-100/index.html

Updated 2:39 PM ET, Fri May 3, 2019

Washington (CNN)President Donald Trump and Senate Republicans celebrated a milestone Thursday when they confirmed their 100th judge appointed by Trump, leaving a significant imprint on the judicial branch that could last for decades after Trump leaves office.
The mark is a victory for Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, who made confirming judges a top priority of this Congress, and Don McGahn, the former White House counsel who helped select the nominees and worked with McConnell to shepherd them to confirmation.
..................................

The heavy focus on confirming judges -- and other presidential appointments -- came when Democrats took control of the House and GOP senate leaders assessed that they were unlikely to broker deals with Democrats on any significant legislation ahead of the 2020 elections. Instead, they turned to nominations, to build accomplishments they could tout to voters.
Unlike the House, the Senate is in "the personnel business," McConnell likes to remind people, confirming judges and top officials in the executive branch.

After the vote on Ruiz Thursday, the Senate confirmed two more judges, raising the total under the Trump administration to 102.
According to McConnell's office, they include 63 for district courts, 37 for circuit courts, and two for the Supreme Court.
Republicans were able to pick up the pace of confirmations last month after McConnell used the nuclear option to change Senate rules to process nominees faster by limiting debate time on them.

They were further aided by the nuclear option triggered in 2013 by then-Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, a Democrat, which lowered the threshold for breaking a nominee from a supermajority 60 votes to a simple majority.
That move essentially eliminated the need for bipartisanship to confirm judicial nominees, meaning the majority party could jam through nominees on the far right and left of the spectrum, something critics think will do long-term damage to the judiciary. ..............................................

Nancy Pelosi is trying to force Trump to return the US to the Paris climate agreement.

By Umair Irfan Updated May 2, 2019, 1:41pm EDT

Update, May 2: The House passed the Climate Action Now Act in a 231-190 vote on Thursday, making it the first climate bill to pass the House in a decade. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has said the bill would “go nowhere,” so it’s unlikely to come up for a vote in the Senate. Read more about the bill in the story below, first published on March 27 when it was introduced.

After a raucous day of Senate Republicans trolling Democrats on a Green New Deal vote, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Wednesday morning stepped up with a clear message: Climate change is a pillar of House Democrats’ legislative agenda in the new Congress.
..................................................

“Our caucus has made [climate change] a caucus-wide priority,” Pelosi said. “This bill is only step one.”

While Republicans still hold the White House and the Senate and are unlikely to pass any climate legislation, House Democrats are signaling to their base that they are serious about action. And with HR 9, they’re also trying to tell the rest of the world that people in the United States still want to uphold their obligations to cut greenhouse gas emissions under the Paris accord.

....................................
Pelosi framed rejoining the Paris agreement as a moral obligation; the bill, she said, is also “about jobs, good-paying, green jobs,” cleaner air and water, and improved public health.

Rep. Kathy Castor (D-FL), the chair of the newly formed House Select Committee on the Climate Crisis and a co-sponsor of the bill, said that HR 9 would undergo markups in the relevant committees in the coming weeks and will be brought to the floor for a vote. ................................................

Study: Major media outlets' Twitter accounts amplify false Trump claims on average 19 times a day

Source: media matters

3 hours 28 min ago ››› MATT GERTZ & ROB SAVILLO

Major media outlets failed to rebut President Donald Trump's misinformation 65% of the time in their tweets about his false or misleading comments, according to a Media Matters review. That means the outlets amplified Trump's misinformation more than 400 times over the three-week period of the study -- a rate of 19 per day.

The data shows that news outlets are still failing to grapple with a major problem that media critics highlighted during the Trump transition: When journalists apply their traditional method of crafting headlines, tweets, and other social media posts to Trump, they end up passively spreading misinformation by uncritically repeating his falsehoods.

The way people consume information in the digital age makes the accuracy of a news outlet’s headlines and social media posts more important than ever, because research shows they are the only thing a majority of people actually read. But journalists are trained to treat a politician’s statements as intrinsically newsworthy, often quoting them without context in tweets and headlines and addressing whether the statement was accurate only in the body of the piece, if at all. When the politician’s statements are false, journalists who quote them in headlines and on social media without context end up amplifying the falsehoods.

Anecdotally, it’s been clear for some time that journalists have not adjusted their practices for the Trump era in which, according to The Washington Post, the president has already made more than 10,000 false or misleading claims. In recent months, Media Matters has explored how news outlets have passively misinformed the public by passing along misinformation from Trump administration figures on topics like threats of violence against journalists, special counsel Robert Mueller’s report, potential conflict with North Korea, Special Olympics funding, and whether the Obama administration was “spying” on Trump associates.

State Dept allowed 7 Foreign Governments to Rent in Trump NY Tower withOut Congress approval....

Trumps stinking swamp gets stinkier each day

EXCLUSIVE: State Department allowed at least seven foreign governments to rent condominiums in New York’s Trump World Tower in 2017 without approval from Congress, a potential violation of the Constitution’s emoluments clause

Exclusive: Foreign government leases at Trump World Tower stir more emoluments concerns
Julia Harte

11 Min Read

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. State Department allowed seven foreign governments to rent luxury condominiums in New York’s Trump World Tower in 2017 without approval from Congress, according to documents and people familiar with the leases, in what some experts say could be a potential violation of the U.S. Constitution’s emoluments clause.

The 90-story Manhattan building, part of the real estate empire of Donald Trump, had housed diplomats and foreign officials before the property developer became president. But now that he is in the White House, such transactions must be approved by federal lawmakers, some legal experts say. The emoluments clause bans U.S. officials from accepting gifts or payments from foreign governments without congressional consent.

The rental transactions, dating from the early months of Trump’s presidency and first disclosed by Reuters, could add to mounting scrutiny of his business dealings with foreign governments, which are now the subject of multiple lawsuits.

Congressional staffers confirmed to Reuters that the Trump World Tower lease requests were never submitted to Congress. Elijah Cummings, chairman of the House Oversight and Reform Committee, said his committee has been “stonewalled” in its efforts to obtain detailed information about foreign government payments to Trump’s businesses.

“This new information raises serious questions about the President and his businesses’ potential receipt of payments from foreign governments,” Cummings said in a statement to Reuters. “The American public deserves full transparency.” .................................................

GOP distances itself from Trump's ObamaCare attacks

Source: the hill

By Peter Sullivan - 05/03/19 06:00 AM EDT

Congressional Republicans don't want to talk about attacks on ObamaCare. But President Trump isn't making that easy.

The Trump administration on Wednesday filed its official legal argument calling for the entirety of the Affordable Care Act to be struck down, once again thrusting the issue back in the spotlight at a time when GOP lawmakers are trying to turn the page.

Republicans would much rather focus on criticizing the “Medicare for all” proposal backed by more and more Democrats, something they see as a winning line of attack compared to reigniting an ObamaCare debate that contributed to the GOP losing its majority in the House last year.

Trump, though, is not playing along with that strategy; instead, he is keeping up his attacks on ObamaCare in court and in his speeches.................

Trump begs for an end to all Congressional investigations: ‘Republicans and Democrats must come together’

At 11:45 p.m. Trump started a Twitter thread laying out what he thinks should happen following the public release of special counsel Robert Mueller’s report.

“OK, so after two years of hard work and each party trying their best to make the other party look as bad as possible, it’s time to get back to business,” Trump argued.

“The Mueller report strongly stated that there was no collusion with Russia (of course) and, in fact, they were rebuffed at every turn in attempts to gain access,” Trump inaccurately claimed.

“But now Republicans and Democrats must come together for the good of the American people. No more costly & time-consuming investigations,” Trump demanded.

Instead, Trump believes Democrats should back his border wall, which he’d famously promised would be funded by Mexico.

“Lets (sic) do immigration (border), infrastructure, much lower drug prices & much more – and do it now,” Trump begged.

This megachurch pastor cast out ‘demonic networks’ at the White House and said Trump is carrying out an ‘assignment’ from God

02 May 2019 at 21:36 ET

........................................

Her name is Paula White, ......................

While the other speakers approached the lectern and spoke solemnly and calmly, White barreled up to the microphone and began immediately speaking a mile a minute, telling the audience to grab each other hands.

And despite her cheerful demeanor, her speech struck some dark and ominous notes.

“We are not wrestling against flesh and blood but against principalities, wickedness and darkness, so we declare every demonic network to be scattered right now,” she said. “We declare right now that there is a hedge of protection over our president, first lady, every assignment, the purpose they carry and the mantle.”

She continued: “And like the apostle, apostle Paul, said in Galatians: ‘I was set apart from my mother’s whom, and marked off by boundaries.’ For let him fulfill all the will of the Lord and do the assignment God has carried him to do for your great name, for your great nation and all your people in the world.”

It was a small peek inside the relationship between Trump and White, who has owned an apartment in one of Trump’s buildings for years, .........................................
