Sen. Baldwin Fighting Blackwell Jobs Corps Closing

RHINELANDER, WI (WSAU-WXPR) -- The Trump Administration recently announced it was closing down Blackwell Job Corps Center, near Laona, in Forest County, and eight other Job Corps Civilian Conservation Centers across the country.
The Trump Administration unveiled a plan to effectively privatize the program by transferring 16 Job Corps from the U.S. Department of Agriculture to the Department of Labor. The remaining Job Corps programs will be run by privately-held companies working for the Labor Department.
U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin is calling on the Trump Administration to immediately halt their decision to close the Blackwell facility and others and is joining her colleagues in a bipartisan manner to introduce new measures to prevent further changes.
Baldwin tells WXPR Radio in Rhinelander the closure will cost 54 jobs locally, plus the core job training needed today. "With regard to the 25 that are run by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, it's really a very specific focus on supporting the U.S. Forest Service's mission."
..............................
Senator Baldwin says the members of Congress opposed to the move have written the cabinet secretaries voicing their opposition to the closures of a third of the centers. Baldwin says they've introduced legislation to block the closures by saying the Administration can't use the money set aside for the centers to be used to close them.

This is a lie. Without your interference, Puerto Rico and these other disaster-impacted areas would have received disaster relief aid months ago.
Fortunately, Democrats remained resolute and got this done.
Now get the money to the communities who need it ASAP.

Also, I'm pretty sure the 75th D-Day anniversary, like all prior D-Day remembrances, is to honor all those who fought and died on D-Day so that we can be free.

How Trump Could Be Prosecuted After the White House
I think both should happen---The Dems in the House Impeach Trump (let the senate GOP make fools of themselves!!) and then hopefully someone will prosecute Trump the day he leaves the Oval office!!
How Trump Could Be Prosecuted After the White House
Impeachment is a big question mark, but an outline of the case against an ex-President Trump is already taking shape.

Renato Mariotti is the Legal Affairs Columnist for POLITICO Magazine. He is a former federal prosecutor and host of the On Topic podcast.
With Congress enmeshed in a fraught debate over whether to impeach President Donald Trump, Robert Muellers brief and dramatic news conference provided a sharp reminder that impeachment is not the only option for addressing the presidents alleged misdeeds.
The outlines of a potential civilian prosecution of a former president Trump are already emerging. While there are reports of tax dodges, illegal campaign contributions, and improper foreign contributions to his inaugural committeeamong other thingsinvestigations into those claims are ongoing. There is, however, an overwhelming case that the president engaged in obstruction of justicehis effort to stop the special counsels office from probing his campaigns ties to Russia.
In the second volume of his 448-page report, Mueller sets forth evidence of obstruction of justice that any competent federal prosecutor could use to draft an indictment. And Mueller made it clear himself that his detailed report was intended, in part, to preserve the evidence because a President does not have immunity after he leaves office.
Although its impossible to know exactly what a prosecution of Citizen Trump would look like, or who would conduct it, its already possible to project some paths a likely prosecution would take. In the eyes of a seasoned former federal prosecutor looking only at the evidence we have so far, here are the likely routesand what Trump has to worry about next.
The Three Strongest Cases
Muellers team examined 10 distinct courses of conduct by Trump that could constitute obstruction of justice, but its not clear there is sufficient evidence to prove them all beyond a reasonable doubt. Three of the potential charges, however, are so strong that they are virtually certain to be included in any indictment of Trump. (Theyre strong enough that over 1,000 former federal prosecutors signed a letter stating that Trump would be indicted if he were not president.)
The strongest count would be his attempt to fire Mueller, the man appointed to investigate the Russian governments interference in the 2016 election and the possibility that the Trump campaign conspired with it. Very simply, obstruction of justice is when someone acts to undermine an investigation with the intent to do so, and there can be no serious question that firing Mueller would have curtailed the investigation. By the time Trump tried to fire Mueller, he knew the special counsel was also investigating him for obstructing justice. Trump tweeted about how he was under investigation a day before he tried to fire Mueller, and White House counsel Don McGahn warned Trump about his exposure for obstructing justice......................................

House Judiciary Chairman Jerrold Nadler (D-N.Y.) is dismissing a bid from the Justice Department to renew negotiations with his panel if the lower chamber cancels a vote to hold Attorney General William Barr in contempt next week.
In a letter to Attorney General William Barr Tuesday evening, Nadler urged the Justice Department to return to the accommodation process without conditions and said the House was not moving prematurely to punish Barr for failing to comply with the committees demands.
The pace with which we are proceeding is consistent with the exceptional urgency of this matter: an attack on our elections that was welcomed by our President and benefited his campaign, followed by acts of obstruction by the President designed to interfere with the investigation of that attack, Nadler wrote.
In a letter to Nadler earlier Tuesday, Assistant Attorney General Stephen Boyd wrote that the Justice Department is prepared to resume negotiations with the committee on a narrowed request for special counsel Robert Muellers materials provided that the Committee takes reasonable steps to restore the status quo ante by mooting its May 8 vote and removing any threat of an imminent vote by the House of Representatives to hold the Attorney General in contempt.

Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) postponed a vote to enforce that subpoena last month, after the department agreed to begin producing some of the intelligence documents sought by the committee. The agreement did not cover the committees demands for the full Mueller report..................

Early swing state polls suggest President Trump will have his work cut out for him to win reelection to a second term.
Trump's upset victories in Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin propelled him to the White House in 2016. He was the first Republican presidential candidate to win any of those states since 1988.
Today, most polls show Trump behind former Vice President Joe Biden the current front-runner in the Democratic race in all of those swing states.
That's a problem, because if the 2016 map otherwise stays the same, a Democratic candidate who wins those three states will win the Electoral College.
Wisconsin seems to be a real problem, the 2018 midterms were a disaster for Republicans there, and Biden seems to have unique appeal in Pennsylvania, said Alex Conant, a partner at the GOP firm Firehouse Strategies.
Trump appears to be running strongest in Michigan, and he really only needs to hold on to one of these to win reelection. But its going to be very competitive and Trump is going to need to spend a lot of time in those three states and hope for the kind of turnout we saw in 2016, he said.

S&P 500 Has Performed Far Worse Under Trump Than Under Obama

During his first two years in office, Donald Trump regularly pointed to the stock market as proof of his leaderships effectiveness. Experts may have shaken their heads, saying that stock values arent an accurate measure of the countrys economic performance. But they are popular with voters, who check their 401(k) investments, and, thus, with politicians. Particularly since presidents can have a major impact on the financial markets in the short run, said David Kass, professor of finance at the University of Maryland.
And getting short-term response in stocks is much easier than long-term fundamental economic gains that can take years to bear fruit. If theres an election coming up, juicing the markets is something both major parties like to do.
When it comes to talking himself up, Trump in particular has compared himself to Barack Obama. So, how do the two presidents measure up in terms of growth in major indexes, measured between their inauguration and May 31 of their third year in office?
The short answer is that Trump has quite a way to go. Under Obama, the S&P 500 grew by 56.4%. The Dow Jones Industrials Average was up 50.6% and the Nasdaq, 92.9%.............................................................

Dem lawmakers blast Trump for opening door to mining in Grand Canyon
Source: The Hill
By Miranda Green - 06/05/19 04:39 PM EDT
Democratic lawmakers are challenging a new Trump administration report they say is along with other White House moves a precursor to opening the Grand Canyon to uranium mining.
Speaking at a House natural resources hearing Wednesday, various lawmakers challenged the plan, arguing the U.S. did not need to mine for its own uranium and definitely didn't need to mine the Grand Canyon.
The Commerce Department report, titled "Federal Strategy to Ensure Secure and Reliable Supplies of Critical Minerals," released Tuesday night, lays out methods to ensure the federal government is mining what it considers critical minerals for national security purposes. In May the Interior Department added uranium to that list, an action that put many environmentalist and land conservations on edge.
Even if we agreed with this premise that uranium mining was a national security issue and I do not agree with that premise it is important to note that the Grand Canyon region only holds .29 percent of known U.S uranium reserves. Thats less than three tenths of one percent of known U.S. uranium reserves, said Rep. Alan Lowenthal (D-Calif.) at the legislative hearing.
