Republicans just called a female Air Force combat veteran a "socialist loser."
Yeesh, not a good look for the Trump Party. Democrat Nikki Foster is neither a socialist nor a loser, from what little we know about the Mason moderate after she launched her campaign in Ohio's 1st Congressional District on Monday.
I don't know too many socialists who are as pro-military as Foster, who recruits veterans for GE Aviation – a job she landed after she flew missions over Iraq and Afghanistan while on active duty. But that's beside the point.
The issue is GOP desperation. Are the Republicans already in such a state of panic about Congressman Steve Chabot's re-election bid that the party would stoop this low some 16 months away from the 2020 election?
They are.
Foster, 37, is a first-time congressional candidate but she has some things working in her favor that scare the Republicans.

Military experience typically plays well with voters, a reason Foster's campaign promoted her time in the Air Force in the launch video. She has never held an elected office, and therefore has no voting record for Republicans to use against her. The 2020 climate is expected to be favorable for women candidates, who hope to appeal to suburban educated moms amid the Trump resistance..............................................

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) defended President Donald Trump’s racist attacks on Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar and his supporters’ chants of “send her back” Wednesday night, saying that they weren’t racist because the comments only applied to those who did not support Trump.
Over the past week, Trump has repeatedly attacked Omar, along with Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), Ayanna Pressley (D-MA), and Rashida Tlaib (D-MI), tweeting that they should “go back” to their home countries, a common racist trope. (Omar came to the United States as a child from Somalia; the other three were born in the United States.) He has openly questioned their patriotism, saying they hate America and love Al Qaeda, and suggested they are a threat to the United States.
At a rally Wednesday night, Trump smiled as his supporters demanded Omar leave the country, chanting “Send her back!”
Asked about those attacks and the racist chant on Thursday morning, Graham suggested that the remarks were not racist, admitting the president only wanted to deport people of color who do not support him........................................

Trump's attorney general added thousands of dollars to the Trump-led culture of corruption in Washington.
Attorney General William Barr donated $51,000 to the committee tasked with electing Republican senators just as the Republican-led Senate began considering his nomination in late 2018.
Quartz released the details of the conveniently timed donations in a report on Thursday.
Barr occasionally made political donations to the Republican Party between 1993 and 2018.

"In the lead up to his Senate confirmation hearings for attorney general earlier this year, his giving habits suddenly changed," Quartz reported. "Barr's donations became far more frequent, notable for their size, recipients, and possible utility to him."
He gave thousands to the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) between November 7, 2018, and February 14 of this year, when he was confirmed. Barr's nomination was publicly announced by Trump on December 7...........................

House Democrats erupted in fury Thursday over President Donald Trump’s attacks on freshman Rep. Ilhan Omar at his reelection rally, fearful that crowd chants of “send her back” have personally endangered her and her family.
Senior Democrats are now calling for authorities to evaluate security for Omar (D-Minn.), as well as the three other lawmakers who Trump called out by name at his Wednesday night rally in North Carolina — warning that Trump has escalated the risk of threats or even acts of violence toward the four minority freshmen.
“It’s crystal clear to me that her life is in imminent danger,” said Rep. Bobby Rush (D-Ill.), a senior member of the Congressional Black Caucus. “He has threatened the safety of a member of Congress. That takes this to a whole different level.”
“It’s bad enough that the president didn’t stop the chant last night. But he started it. It’s instilling fear, it’s going to instill violence,” added Rep. Ben Ray Lujan (D-N.M.), the House’s No. 4 Democrat..........................

Misleading Poll Numbers
In his comments and in a tweet the following day, Trump cited low polling numbers for Omar and Ocasio-Cortez of 8% and 21%, respectively. But numbers similar to those are from a survey of white voters with no more than two years of college education, not voters overall or voters in the lawmakers’ districts.
In his July 15 comments, Trump said, “One of them is polling at 8%,” and his July 16 tweet claimed, “Omar is polling at 8%, Cortez at 21%.”
Axios published information about this poll on July 14, without naming the group that conducted it per an agreement with that group. The story said that a poll “making the rounds of some of the most influential Democrats in America” showed swing voters who had supported Trump in 2016 didn’t have favorable views of Omar and Ocasio-Cortez. The poll of 1,003 white likely voters for the general election who also had no more than two years of college education showed 53% recognized Omar, with 9% having a favorable view of her, and 74% recognized Ocasio-Cortez, with 22% having a favorable view.
We don’t know whether those 1,003 voters were a nationwide sample or from certain states or regions. But it’s worth noting that both lawmakers were quite popular with voters in their congressional districts, winning their seats in 2018 by large margins. Omar won Minnesota’s 5th District and Ocasio-Cortez won New York’s 14th District, each with 78% of the votes.
A Siena College poll taken in late March and early April of 607 registered voters in Ocasio-Cortez’s district found 52% had a favorable opinion of her, and her job approval rating was 47%. The poll had a margin of error of plus or minus 4.3 percentage points.

In a chaotic moment outside the Capitol, Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) — trailed by a mob of cameramen and reporters — stopped in the middle of Independence Avenue, shut down two lanes of traffic and gave an impromptu news conference responding to Trump supporters who chanted at President Trump's rally Wednesday that she should leave the country.
"I am not [scared for my safety]. What I'm scared for is the safety for people who share my identity,” Omar told a gaggle of journalists on Thursday.
"This is not about me. This is about fighting for what this country should be and what it deserves to be."
CNN's Manu Raju recorded video of reporters asking questions to Omar.
Her remarks came a day after Trump attacked four freshman Democratic congresswomen of color during a rally in North Carolina on Wednesday night. It is probably not possible to know definitively if this is just the newest crazy to erupt from our erratic president or deliberately crazy and timed for a specific purpose. Is this specifically designed to get everyone hanging on to his every word because our moral fiber will be shredded if we let this go without protesting?
