Policy change today is not enough. The people in charge had time to change the policy and end the practice. They have allowed it because the are okay with it, but not the negative attention.

Since they have bee okay with it, they need to resign or be terminated.

That is offensive on a million difference levels. Those officers should be fired immediately, and that gentleman should press charges against them for harassment, among other things. People have just lost their damn MINDS!

Nan Whaley, the mayor of Dayton Ohio is quite the character.....

She is giving an interview on msnbc right now.

I heard her last night also for a bit. She was asked about Trump coming to Dayton. She said she had not been given any
details yet---then she said......for all I know, maybe he--Trump is going to Toledo.

I just laughed out loud.

Former President Obama on Tuesday paid tribute to Pulitzer-winning novelist Toni Morrison, who he awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2012, after it was announced that she had died on Monday.

“Her writing was not just beautiful but meaningful—a challenge to our conscience and a call to greater empathy. She was as good a storyteller, as captivating, in person as she was on the page,” Obama wrote in a Facebook post, noting Morrison’s accomplishments including the Pulitzer and Nobel prizes.

“And so even as Michelle and I mourn her loss and send our warmest sympathies to her family and friends, we know that her stories—that our stories—will always be with us, and with those who come after, and on and on, for all time,” he added...................

Time is no match for Toni Morrison. In her writing, she sometimes toyed with it, warping and creasing it, bending it to her masterful will. In her life’s story, too, she treated time nontraditionally. A child of the Great Migration who’d lifted up new, more diverse voices in American literature as an editor, Toni didn’t publish her first novel until she was 39 years old. From there followed an ascendant career—a Pulitzer, a Nobel, and so much more—and with it, a fusion of the African American story within the American story. Toni Morrison was a national treasure. Her writing was not just beautiful but meaningful—a challenge to our conscience and a call to greater empathy. She was as good a storyteller, as captivating, in person as she was on the page. And so even as Michelle and I mourn her loss and send our warmest sympathies to her family and friends, we know that her stories—that our stories—will always be with us, and with those who come after, and on and on, for all time.

But the connection between the president and the young men with guns extends beyond Trump’s race-baiting to encompass a more essential feature of his public self — which is not the rhetoric or ideology that he deploys,
but the obvious moral vacuum, the PROFOUND SPIRITUAL BLACK HOLE, that lies beneath his persona and career."

THERE YOU HAVE IT. A SHAM, A HOLLOW MAN, WITH NO MORALITY, NO HEART, NO EMPATHY, NO ABILITY TO STAND IN ANOTHER'S SHOES AND FEEL EVEN THE TINIEST TWINGE FOR THEIR STRUGGLE

OR PAIN. AS LONG AS HE'S SAFE, WARM, WELL FED, AS LONG AS HIS PLANE TAKES OFF ON TIME AND HE GETS HIS GOLF GAME IN, AS LONG AS HE AND HIS CRONIES ARE MAKING MONEY, THE REST OF THE WORLD CAN GO TO HELL. AND IT WILL.

'We were safe until he started talking': El Paso residents respond to President Trump

‘We were safe until he started talking’: El Paso residents respond to President Trump

Watching President Trump step up to a White House podium Monday to assert that “hate has no place in America,” many people in this Texas border city were dumbfounded.

“We were safe until he started talking,” John Smith-Davis, 47, a retired Army veteran, said as he mourned with his friends at a memorial near the Walmart where a gunman opened fire Saturday. “He made us a target with his hateful rhetoric.”

Veronica Sanchez, a 23-year-old dental assistant, put it more succinctly: “He has said enough.”

El Paso, whose 680,000 people are mostly Latino and mostly Democrats, has long viewed Trump warily — and his most forceful statement since the massacre that has now claimed 22 lives there did little to change that.

“These barbaric slaughters are an assault upon our communities, an attack against our nation and a crime against all of humanity,” Trump said in a speech Monday about the killings here and another mass shooting a day later in Dayton, Ohio. “In one voice, our nation must condemn racism, bigotry, and white supremacy.”

That was little comfort to many El Paso residents, who focused instead on the ways that Trump has stoked the racism and xenophobia that appears to have motivated the killer and his decision to target Mexican immigrants............................................

Gabrielle Gurley July 19, 2019

The president stokes race-baiting and potentially worse in service of his re-election campaign. Democrats must continue to call out these distractions and his epic failure to address the real concerns of average Americans.

On Tuesday, July 16, 2019, the United States House of Representatives voted along party lines to condemn President Donald Trump for his racist tweets that urged four members of Congress—Representatives Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts, and Rashida Tlaib of Michigan—to go back to where they came from.

This historic vote is a turning point (there have been only four similar congressional votes outside of impeachment) but one that, for the moment, offers little vindication for Democrats. The United States has entered a dangerous new period of instability conjured up by the president and his far-right wing enablers. The pernicious narratives that Trump constructs when a black, brown, or beige person is so bold as to exercise his or her First Amendment rights provides the fuel for campaign rallies like the one Trump held in Greenville, North Carolina, the day after the vote.

The problem with all the “incendiary rhetoric” coming from the White House that Senator Mitch McConnell, bless his heart, belatedly wants to tamp down is that it is designed to wind up Trump supporters to new heights of fury against progressive Democrats. Absent that, Trump and his handlers have apparently concluded, his base won’t turn out in sufficient numbers to get him re-elected. And if that rhetoric sparks outbreaks of violence, well, that might get even more of his supporters to the polls.

Nearly three years ago, I wrote that Trump’s election could stoke civil unrest. With Charlottesville in the rear-view mirror, what seemed ominous then, seems more unnerving in this centennial of the Red Summer of 1919. On July 19, 1919, a race riot erupted in Washington, D.C., that lasted four days. Shortly afterward, in Chicago, an even deadlier riot took place, unleashing the one of the country’s worst periods of racial violence. All told, dozens of riots occurred across the country that year—acts of violence perpetrated by white mobs against African Americans that included lynchings and men burned alive at the stake. Hundreds were killed or wounded.

It’s not difficult to see how the Radio Rwanda that the White House has become could itself be the catalyst for mayhem. In Greenville, the president described Democrats as “violent” and “vicious” and had a crowd of 8,000 chanting “send her back” as he directly attacked Omar, the Minneapolis congresswoman who came to America as a child when her family was forced to flee war-torn Somalia. “This is how history’s worst episodes begin,” Representative Justin Amash, a Michigan independent who recently left the Republican Party, tweeted Thursday. “We must not allow this man to take us to such a place.”

America’s vaunted exceptionalism—the idea that this country has a special destiny that is unique among the nations of the world, frays at the edges when it comes to matters of race, religion, and national origin. Trump has transformed the characteristics that should be sources of strength in a diverse country into a foundation for attacks. The strategy that Trump has wielded since his rise to power is the ancient weapon of divide and conquer, a tool that is easier to tote from white-power rally to white-power rally than a health care program with actual components other than its gonna be great.

Just seven months away from the first votes of 2020, the White House and a merry band of white nationalists are hell-bent on stirring up aggrieved whites who do not want to concede or even consider that their president has failed to provide them with new health care coverage of any type or retrieve long gone jobs from distant lands—and that somehow, Democrats and four members of Congress are to blame for his failures. Over the coming months, the crowds who will come to Trump’s rallies will celebrate him for allowing them to luxuriate in one of the most valuable commodities that they possess: their whiteness. .............................................

'Politicize my death': Twitter users plead for change in wake of mass shootings

Source: abc

Aug 5, 2019, 2:53 PM ET

“Politicize my death."

Those three stark words rang out hundreds of times on Twitter this weekend in the wake of two deadly mass shootings in El Paso, Texas, and Dayton, Ohio, as social media users gave each other permission to make their potential death in any future mass shooting part of a political conversation about ending gun violence.

"If I die in a mass shooting, please politicize my death toward ending gun violence, immediately," went one typical plea, from writer Jennifer Wright. "I don’t want to die for nothing."

The comments and their variants reflect growing frustration and outrage over prior responses to mass shootings, in which elected officials and public figures have often called on others not to "politicize" the tragedies.

Critics contend requests not to "politicize" mass shootings stymie discussions of potential public policy solutions that could help prevent future incidents.

The request has trended after previous mass shootings but emerged with renewed vigor this weekend in the wake of the shooting sprees, which left a combined 31 people dead.

Some social media users were explicit, anticipating potential responses and pitching a medical bracelet or place on an ID card that indicates a willingness to be part of a political conversation. Others called for their bodies to be dumped in front of the U.S. Capitol building or have their funerals held in the Oval Office. ....................................
