Graham open to putting Obama under oath in probe into Russia investigation origins

Source: msn.com

Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Lindsey Graham says he is open to putting Barack Obama under oath as he probes potential White House involvement in opening an investigation into unproven ties between the 2016 Trump campaign and Russia.

Graham says one of the biggest remaining mysteries in the Trump-Russia saga that needs to be unraveled is who told President Obama about the counterintelligence investigation into then-candidate Donald Trump. The South Carolina Republican wants answers from the former president.

As part of his probe, Graham is prepared to call former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe, former FBI Director James Comey, former CIA Director John Brennan, and former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper to testify.

Graham joined Sean Hannity on Fox News on Wednesday night to say he was determined to get to the bottom of the launching of the Trump-Russia investigation, and that the “bottom line” for him was figuring out what Obama knew, when he knew it, and whom he learned it from.

“I can't imagine an investigation of the Republican nominee for president — a counterintelligence investigation of his campaign — was not approved at the highest level,” Graham said Wednesday night. “I cannot imagine it happening without somebody in the White House knowing about it." .....................................

Trump campaign spokeswoman insists Trump doesn't lie--so Cuomo shuts her OFF.......

Trump spokeswoman: 'I don't think the president has lied'
By Justin Wise - 08/29/19 09:10 AM EDT

CNN host Chris Cuomo and Kayleigh McEnany, a spokeswoman for President Trump's reelection campaign, got into a heated exchange late Wednesday over whether Trump lies, with McEnany repeatedly insisting that he doesn't.

The contentious back-and-forth came as Cuomo accused the president of consistently lying and demonizing people for being different.

"He doesn't lie. He doesn't lie," McEnany retorted. "The press lies."

She repeated that Trump "doesn't lie" before stating, "Guess who lies? The press lies."

"You don't think this president has ever lied?" Cuomo quickly shot back, before speaking over McEnany and asking, "You don’t think the president has lied to the American people? You have to answer that question first. He has never lied to the American people?"

"I don't think the president has lied. No, I don't think the president has lied," she responded.

..........................................

"I think that fake news has lied to the American people," she said, before going on to accuse the press of lying about the president in its coverage of Russian election interference.

"I’ll ask you this one more time, ............................................" Cuomo asked.

“No,” McEnany, a former CNN contributor and Republican National Committee spokesperson, said. “I don’t believe the president has lied.”

........................................

Cuomo then went on state that he was wrapping up the interview because of McEnany's denial.

........................................

McEnany responded by accusing the press of lying about everything the president says.

Published 1 min ago August 29, 2019

Attendance at a campaign rally for Kentucky Gov. Matt Bevin that featured Donald Trump Jr. was so poor on Thursday afternoon that the few people there were asked to leave their seats and crowd around the stage.

Ryland Barton, the statehouse reporter for Kentucky Public Radio, posted a photo on his Twitter account showing the tiny crowd at the event.....................

According to local news station WYMT, Trump Jr. traveled to Eastern Kentucky this week in the hopes of helping Bevin’s reelection campaign.

Bevin, a Tea Party favorite and an ally of President Donald Trump, holds the dubious distinction of being America’s least popular governor. According to the latest polling from Morning Consult, Bevin’s approval in the deep-red state stands at just 32 percent, while his disapproval rating is 56 percent..................................

A Republican congressional candidate went on Fox News Wednesday to highlight the large number of women from her party running in 2020. Her rationale: Women can now vote based on their fiscal conservatism because social issues are no longer a concern for anyone.

Valerie Ramirez Mukherjee (R) is running to challenge Rep. Brad Schneider (D) next November in the Illinois 10th Congressional District. With Republicans making up less than one-sixth of the record number of women serving in the 116th Congress, the GOP has been attempting to emphasize the women running in 2020 at various levels of government.

Despite the many polls showing women now increasingly and overwhelmingly leaning Democratic, Ramirez Mukherjee said on Wednesday that — after two and a half decades — women are no longer hiding their Republican views because social issues are no longer a factor.

“When I first got involved in politics at UC Berkeley, we went into hiding. Our country fought over social issues and that divided us as a country and as a party,” she said...........................................................

Trump, GOP fret loss in bellwether House special election

https://www.politico.com/story/2019/08/28/trump-gop-north-carolina-election-1476636

At a retreat with top GOP donors in Wyoming last week, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy broached a growing concern for senior Republicans: a crucial, do-over election for a North Carolina congressional seat.

McCarthy has traveled to the state to help the Republican candidate, state Sen. Dan Bishop, and has pushed his rank-and-file lawmakers to lend a hand. And as he chatted up contributors, he warned that next month’s vote is critical: Following a devastating 2018 election that demolished the House GOP majority, a win in the nationally-watched race would give the party a badly-needed morale boost.

Republicans are funneling resources into the southern North Carolina district as they try to stave off an embarrassing loss in a GOP-heavy seat that President Donald Trump won in 2016 by more than 11 percentage points.
With private polling showing a close race between Bishop and Democrat Dan McCready, Trump will travel to the district on Sept. 9, the night before the special election, for a rally in Fayetteville, N.C. And the White House is also planning to deploy Vice President Mike Pence and the president’s son, Donald Trump Jr., before the election.

The GOP appeared to have held the seat narrowly last November, but Republican Mark Harris’ apparent 905-vote victory over McCready was thrown out by the state board of elections, which found evidence that a Harris consultant had committed ballot fraud........................

Trump did not agree to G7 aid package for Amazon fires

Source: CNN

Updated 4:31 PM ET, Wed August 28, 2019

Washington (CNN)President Donald Trump did not commit to a $20 million package proposed at the G7 to help Brazil fight fires in the Amazon, a Trump administration spokesman said Wednesday.

French President Emmanuel Macron announced Monday that G7 nations had agreed to fund a $20 million package to help combat raging forest fires in the Amazon and said the US was on board with the proposal despite Trump's absence at a leaders meeting on the environment.

But National Security Council spokesman Garrett Marquis said Wednesday that the US had not committed to the aid package, citing a lack of coordination with the Brazilian government.

..............................

Macron insisted that the US was on board with "the Amazon initiative" during a news conference on Monday, even though Trump did not attend the leaders' session on climate where the aid package was agreed to. A National Security Council official attended the session on the US' behalf instead.
"You shouldn't read anything into the American President's absence," Macron said on Monday. "The United States is with us on biodiversity and on the Amazon initiative."

I think Macron bent over backwards to appease Trump at the G7!! I can understand Europe's strategy (in general) just to appease him till Trump is OUT, but Macron went too far IMHO.

Meanwhile, I saw an article yesterday saying that Canada is giving about 16 million of the total G7 pledge to help the Amazon fires.

Trump lashes out at San Juan mayor as Puerto Rico braces for Dorian

Source: The Hill

By Brett Samuels - 08/28/19 08:30 AM EDT

........................................

Trump late Tuesday approved an emergency declaration for Puerto Rico to mobilize additional government resources as Dorian tracks toward the island, bringing powerful winds and heavy rains with it.

San Juan Mayor Carmen Yulín Cruz, a vocal critic of the president and the administration's response to Hurricane Maria, said Tuesday night that Trump should "get out of the way" and let others do the job of preparing for Dorian. She added that she felt the island was better prepared ahead of the coming storm than it was before Maria devastated the U.S. territory in 2017.

Puerto Rican officials have declared an emergency in preparation for the storm, which is expected to grow stronger as it approaches the island. Experts say it could also hit Florida as a hurricane next week....................................

Trump regularly claims that the government has allocated roughly $90 billion to the island for recovery from Hurricane Maria. But several fact-checkers have noted that is not the case, and that Puerto Rico has thus far received about $15 billion..........................................

We are tracking closely tropical storm Dorian as it heads, as usual, to Puerto Rico. FEMA and all others are ready, and will do a great job. When they do, let them know it, and give them a big Thank You - Not like last time. That includes from the incompetent Mayor of San Juan!

Bugged and storming: Trump lashes out about bedbugs and nuking hurricanes

Source: latimes.com

Aug. 27, 2019 3:07 PM

After a weekend of roller-coaster meetings with foreign leaders in France, President Trump turned to less weighty matters Tuesday, denying a bedbug problem at the troubled Trump golf resort in Miami, where he wants to host next year’s G-7 summit, and rejecting a report that he pondered using nuclear weapons against Atlantic hurricanes, a move that scientists say would spread radioactivity around the globe.

In railing to his 63.6 million Twitter followers, Trump gave those stories global visibility — demonstrating his penchant for taking arms against even minor slights, and the scattershot focus that defines his stream-of-consciousness presidency.

Trump’s myriad tweets, like his news conferences, are a mash-up of the momentous and the minuscule, a digital record of whatever is occupying his thoughts — and drawing his ire — from moment to moment. Oftentimes, they undermine the agenda he is hoping to advance.

Even as he insisted that his three days at the G-7 summit in Biarritz, France, were “a great success for the USA” and a harmonious meeting of allies, Trump fired off tweets that placed him well outside the group consensus on such critical issues as climate change, trade tariffs and whether Russia should be readmitted to the elite group of industrialized economies.

Trump skipped the G-7 working session on climate, biodiversity and oceans (he twice said he planned to attend while the meeting was underway)........................................
