I do not support impeachment of President Trump. I have just read the whistleblower complaint made available to House Intelligence Committee Members. I believe strongly in transparency and it should be immediately declassified and made public for the American people to read.

Trump repeatedly pushed for Zelensky to investigate former Vice President Joe Biden, and his son, Hunter, during a July 25 phone call, according to a transcript of the conversation released by the White House. There is no evidence of wrongdoing by either Joe or Hunter Biden.
Trump also asked the Ukrainian leader to work with his personal lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, and US Attorney General William Barr on the issue, the call transcript reveals..........................................

Washington, D.C. – Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued this statement on the White House’s release of the notes of the call between President Trump and President Zelensky of Ukraine:
“The release of the notes of the call by the White House confirms that the President engaged in behavior that undermines the integrity of our elections, the dignity of the office he holds and our national security. The President has tried to make lawlessness a virtue in America and now is exporting it abroad.
“I respect the responsibility of the President to engage with foreign leaders as part of his job. It is not part of his job to use taxpayer money to shake down other countries for the benefit of his campaign. Either the President does not know the weight of his words or he does not care about ethics or his constitutional responsibilities.
“The transcript and the Justice Department’s acting in a rogue fashion in being complicit in the President’s lawlessness confirm the need for an impeachment inquiry. Clearly, the Congress must act.
“As we await the transmittal of the full whistleblower complaint to the House and Senate Intelligence Committees, it is important to note that the complaint was determined by the Inspector General to be a matter of ‘urgent concern’ and ‘credible.’ The Intelligence Community has long recognized that whistleblowers constitute a vital part of our national security apparatus and that they must be protected. I reiterate my long-standing call to protect the whistleblower from retaliation.”

Fascinating article now up at The Washington Post outlining Rudy’s machinations in Ukraine, the ouster of the U.S. Ambassador there at his recommendation, consternation and anger at the growing clusterfuck from John Bolton and other senior officials, great stuff, but, for my money, here is the beef:
“The perception of a parallel, hidden agenda intensified in the summer as officials at the NSC, Pentagon and State Department began reacting to rumors that hundreds of millions of dollars of military and intelligence aid to Ukraine was being mysteriously impeded.
“There were never any orders given, any formal guidance from the White House to any of the agencies,” said a U.S. official familiar with the matter. “And the NSC was scratching their heads: How is this possible?”
NSC officials, including Tim Morrison, who had replaced Fiona Hill as the senior director for European and Russian affairs, began organizing meetings to try to understand these hidden forces affecting Ukraine policy, officials said.
But even then, clear answers proved elusive. Officials were told that the money was being blocked by the Office of Management and Budget, without any accompanying explanation.
“It was bizarre,” the official said.”

Let me start with the caveats…
Yes, it’s early.
Yes, we have to work hard.
Yes, we should NOT get complacent.
Yes, we need to vote.
Yes, we (all other variations of not counting your eggs before they’ve hatched).
This entire preamble is to head off comments that boil down to “we need to worry about winning”, “we can’t assume anything” etc. I am well aware of all of that.
This diary is also not intended as prediction, rather for conversation. If you Google “Trump” and “landslide” a whole bunch of Republican-friendly scenarios emerge. Those results and scenarios include wishful thinking by tools such as Hannity and Guiliani. Others are political porn published by right-wing websites.
But if you look for “Landslide against Trump”, “Trump loses in landslide” you do not find much in the way of possibilities. Indeed, of the possible outcomes for 2020 it comes down to Trump landslide, Trump narrow victory and Democratic narrow victory as the three most popular scenarios. There is a lot of credence to those, especially considering that Trump is an incumbent and incumbents tend to win reelection. Analysts like Rachel Bitcofer predicts a close election (and she hit the election bullseye for 2018). That’s the smart money.

President Donald Trump’s personal attorney Rudy Giuliani claims he has been read the transcript of the president’s phone call to his Ukrainian counterpart.
Giuliani appeared Wednesday morning on “Fox & Friends,” where he told the hosts that he was read the entire thing before it was handed over to Congress.
“Let’s say it was read to me,” he told Fox News.
The former New York City mayor is himself deeply implicated in a scheme to pressure Ukraine’s government to dig up damaging information against Joe Biden, the former vice president and Democratic presidential frontrunner.
Trump has confirmed that he held back U.S. aid to Ukraine as leverage to pressure the foreign government to turn over dirt against Biden.
