Graham vows Biden, Ukraine probe after impeachment trial

Trump is vindictive and now his Repug congress folk have picked up the vindictiveness.

By Jordain Carney - 01/24/20 05:28 PM EST

Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) said Friday that "someone" should investigate the Bidens and Ukraine after the impeachment trial, and pledged he will if an outside counsel doesn't step forward.

"Nobody has done an investigation anywhere near like the Mueller investigation of the Bidens, and I think they should. And when this is over the Congress will do it, if we can't have an outside entity do it," Graham told reporters.

Graham stressed that he would like "somebody outside of politics" to lead the investigation, but repeatedly said if that did not happen he would take the reins of a probe into former Vice President Joe Biden, his son Hunter Biden and Ukraine.

"You know why I don't want to do it? I love Joe Biden. I don't want to do this," Graham said, before adding: "I don't want it to be Lindsey Graham, because it will be hard for me, but if I have to I will do it."

Republicans have seized on Hunter Biden's work for Burisma, a Ukrainian gas company, and Joe Biden's push for the dismissal of Ukrainian Prosecutor General Viktor Shokin because of concerns he was overlooking corruption in his own office, as they have sought to defend President Trump's actions with Ukraine.

There's no evidence that Biden was acting with his son's interests in mind when he pushed for Shokin's dismissal, a position that reflected the views of the Obama administration and U.S. allies in Europe. The former vice president has denied doing so and the GOP claims have been debunked by fact checkers.

The GOP feud with the Bidens has loomed over Trump's impeachment trial as the House managers have repeatedly mentioned them as they've presented their case during the last few days. Republicans have pointed to the decision as evidence that Hunter Biden, and potentially the former vice president, need to be called; sparking a constant round of questions for Senate Democrats.

Graham and Sens. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) and Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) have requested any documents related to Ukraine and Hunter Biden. .........

Mitt Romney whines he's bored and doesn't care about impeachment because 'no one is watching'

Source: raw story

Published 1 min ago on January 24, 2020

It’s clear some U.S. Senators are continuing to breach the oath they took to be impartial and consider the impeachment professionally, according to CNN reporter Mike Warren.

Sen. Mitt Romney (R-UT), who was once seen as an independent thinker, proved he’s over it, when he lamented to other senators he wanted to go home because no one is paying any attention anyway.

Speaking to Sen. Mike Braun (R-IN), who has already admitted that Trump is guilty but he doesn’t care, Romney was overheard complaining during the last break. ........................................

Ted Cruz Goes After ‘MOST Partisan/Unfair’ Manu Raju: ‘When You’re Obnoxious, We Answer Other Reporters’

Senator Ted Cruz took a page from President Donald Trump’s “the best defense is a good offense” playbook in a Friday tweet that took a shot at CNN Capitol Hill reporter Manu Raju, and also, quite curiously, played the victim card against one of the more respected reporters inside the beltway.

While covering the ongoing impeachment trial of President Trump, Raju caught up with Senator Cruz to ask if he defended Trump’s controversial conduct with Ukraine, which the Texas Senator promptly blew off in lieu of taking a question from New York Times reporter Nicholas Fandos.............................................

Fox & Friends Audience Gasps After Geraldo Laments the Fall of Giuliani: Deteriorating Right Before Our Eyes…
By Joe DePaoloJan 24th, 2020, 9:28 am

Geraldo Rivera elicited gasps from a live studio audience watching Fox & Friends Friday when he offered a somber analysis of former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani.

Appearing on set Friday, Geraldo was asked to comment on Giuliani — who had appeared as a guest earlier in the program.

“I’ve known him since he was a newly-appointed U.S. attorney in the Southern district here in New York,” Geraldo said mournfully. “Then he became America’s mayor, and we all lived through that trauma with him when he was the most magnificent elected official on earth. To see him kind of deteriorate right before your very eyes … and I love the guy —”

Co-host Steve Doocy interjected to ask Geraldo to expand on his remark. Geraldo said he took issue with Giuliani not being sent to Ukraine on something of a covert operation, and not as an official envoy of the government. He also objected to Giuliani’s association with Lev Parnas — whom Geraldo termed a “sleaze bag.”

“What in the world is America’s mayor doing hanging around with someone like Lev Parnas!?” Geraldo said............................

Ivanka Trump was involved in inauguration's inflated payments to family business --lawsuit

Ivanka Trump was involved in inauguration’s inflated payments to family business — and so was the president: lawsuit

Then-President-elect Donald Trump and his daughter Ivanka were warned in 2016 that the family business was overcharging the nonprofit presidential inaugural committee — and let it happen anyway, according to a suit filed Wednesday by the Washington, D.C., attorney general.

In the civil complaint, Attorney General Karl Racine charged the Trump inaugural committee and the Trump Organization with using around $1 million of charitable funds to improperly enrich the Trump family.

An experienced event planner who was working for the inaugural, Stephanie Winston Wolkoff, raised concerns directly with Donald and Ivanka Trump that the Trump International Hotel in Washington was trying to overcharge the inaugural committee.

“Winston Wolkoff met with President-elect Trump and Ivanka Trump and discussed these concerns with both individuals,” the suit says. “The President-elect acknowledged these concerns and directed that Ivanka Trump would handle this issue.”

The complaint accuses three entities — the Trump Organization, the inaugural committee and the Trump hotel — of subverting the public purpose of a charity for the Trump family’s private benefit............................................

Trump Scraps Obama's Controls That Stopped Pollution From Being Dumped in Streams

Source: dailybeast-Reuters

Published Jan. 23, 2020 5:22AM ET REUTERS

The Trump administration will strip away environmental protections for streams and wetlands Thursday when it finalizes the rollback of Obama-era rules that stopped pollutants from being dumped into the nation’s bodies of water. The New York Times reports Trump’s new rule will be implemented in the coming weeks and will remove federal protections from more than half of the nation’s wetlands, and hundreds of thousands of waterways. It will allow farmers to dump toxic substances such as pesticides and fertilizers into those waterways, and allow property developers to destroy wetlands for construction projects. Blan Holman, a lawyer specializing in federal water policy at the Southern Environmental Law Center, said: “This puts drinking water for millions of Americans at risk of contamination from unregulated pollution.” Trump has previously condemned the regulations as “horrible,” “destructive” and “one of the worst examples of federal” overreach.

Trump tapes help incriminate the President at his own trial

Trump tapes help incriminate the President at his own trial

https://www.cnn.com/2020/01/23/politics/donald-trump-impeachment-trial-witness/index.html

Washington (CNN)Can't get a new witness? Call Donald J. Trump.

Republicans might be blocking new testimony in the Senate trial but Democratic impeachment managers keep returning to the person who makes their case better than anyone: the President himself.

Trump, of course, is not literally in the Senate chamber -- though he said Wednesday he'd "love" to be in the front row to stare at his "corrupt" accusers.

But for Democrats, there's no better evidence with which to paint a picture of what they say is a self-dealing, obstructive leader with a kingly view of his own powers than the highlight reel already compiled by the most television-obsessed president in history.

"I have, in Article II, where I have the right to do whatever I want as President," Trump says in one clip aired on Tuesday by lead impeachment manager Rep. Adam Schiff, D-California....................

................So Schiff dug out the famous clip from the 2016 election when Trump called on Russia, "if you are listening," to find Hillary Clinton's 30,000 "missing" emails. Last year's call by the President for China to "start an investigation into the Bidens" also came up, as did Trump's comment to George Stephanopoulos on ABC News that if a foreign power had election dirt: "I think I'd want to hear it."......................

Well, then the Dems should send a note up to Roberts each time a Trump lawyer tells a lie. fair is fair IMHO

Susan Collins sent note to dais before John Roberts admonished legal teams, source says

By Jamie Gangel, Ted Barrett and Dan Berman, CNN

Updated 8:21 PM ET, Wed January 22, 2020

Washington (CNN)Sen. Susan Collins sent a written note early Wednesday morning during President Donald Trump's impeachment trial minutes before Chief Justice John Roberts admonished both legal teams, a source with knowledge of the event tells CNN.

It is unclear if the note from Collins, a Maine Republican, led directly to Roberts' comments, or had specific language for him, but the note came shortly before the chief justice spoke. The note was sent as House Judiciary Chairman Jerry Nadler, a Democrat from New York, spoke and appeared to accuse senators of a "cover-up."

Senate Parliamentarian Elizabeth MacDonough was seen on TV cameras speaking to Roberts at 12:48 a.m. ET. It is not clear what the conversation between the two was about, but Roberts addressed the Senate at 12:55 a.m.

There were also heated language from one of the President's attorneys, Pat Cipollone, in the preceding 30 minutes, and Roberts specifically addressed both legal teams in his remarks.

"I think it is appropriate at this point for me to admonish both the House managers and the President's counsel, in equal terms, to remember that they are addressing the world's greatest deliberative body," Roberts said, appearing to refer to notes on the dais.

The Supreme Court's public information officer did not comment.

Collins was reluctant to acknowledge any contribution to the remark

able rebuke of the parties arguing the impeachment trial. When she came off the floor about 2 a.m. ET Wednesday, a reporter told her that she was seen handing a note up to the dais, to the parliamentarian, she replied coyly: "Who me? I did that?" .....
