"Unfortunately, our office is no stranger to his bullying behavior," Koltun said of Sheriff Clarke.

Another bully. No wonder Trump likes him.

Milwaukee County Sheriff David A. Clarke Jr. has been largely silent in public about the deaths of four people at the Milwaukee County Jail since April, even though his office oversees the jail.

But, boy, has Clarke been doing some yelling behind the scenes.

Brian Peterson, Milwaukee County chief medical examiner, said Thursday that the sheriff called him on Oct. 28 and "verbally pummeled" and "threatened" him over information that Peterson's office made public regarding the deaths of two inmates at the jail earlier this year. Peterson said his office followed appropriate protocol in the cases cited by the sheriff.

Even so, Clarke said he would be contacting the state Medical Examining Board to have Peterson sanctioned or his license revoked.

"I haven't been talked to like that since I was probably 5," Peterson said in an interview.

Peterson documented the hostile 20-minute conversation a day later in a lengthy email to Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele, Abele's chief of staff and Clarke. The county exec appoints the medical examiner with the consent of the Milwaukee County Board.

Raisa Koltun, Abele's chief of staff, responded to Peterson by saying her office would "obviously have your back" if Clarke followed through with his threat to go to the state medical board. "Unfortunately, our office is no stranger to his bullying behavior," Koltun said of Clarke.

Paul Ryan trashed government deals to help specific companies — until Trump did it

The Carrier deal is exactly the sort of “picking winners and losers” Ryan usually hates.

During a press conference on Thursday, House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) was asked what he thought about the sweetheart deal President-elect Donald Trump and Vice President-elect Mike Pence struck with United Technology to keep about 1,000 Carrier manufacturing jobs in Indiana in exchange for millions of dollars in incentives.

“Well I’m pretty happy that we’re keeping jobs in America, aren’t you?” Ryan said to a reporter, adding that he couldn’t speak to the specifics of the deal, which won’t prevent 1,300 Carrier jobs from relocating to Mexico from Indiana. “I think it’s pretty darn good that people are keeping their jobs in Indiana instead of going to Mexico.”

Ryan’s response was a significant departure from what he’s said in the past about deals like the Carrier one. On Tax Day last year, Ryan released a statement blasting President Obama for allegedly wanting to provide “special carve-outs to his favorite industries.”

“Our tax code should not pick winners and losers,” Ryan wrote on behalf of a “simpler, flatter” tax code. “Our country can’t reach its potential with a tax code that punishes people for reaching their own.”

Ryan reiterated that sentiment in a video clip he shared to Twitter in July.

Even supporters of the Carrier deal acknowledge the approach Trump and Pence have taken is unsustainable.
Scott Paul, president of the advocacy group the Alliance for American Manufacturing, told the New York Times that “Carrier is special because it happened at the right time and the right place and it gained a high profile. But obviously, Donald Trump and Mike Pence can’t intervene every time a plant closes.”

Normally secretive agency reveals it advised Donald Trump to divest

By Michael D. Shear and Eric Lipton The New York Times December 01, 2016

WASHINGTON — The Office of Government Ethics has informed lawyers for President-elect Donald Trump that only a divestiture of his financial stake in his sprawling real estate business will resolve ethical concerns about conflicts of interest as he assumes the office of the presidency.

The revelation from the normally secretive federal agency came Wednesday in a bizarre series of oddly informal postings on its Twitter account after officials apparently concluded, erroneously, that Trump had committed on his own Twitter account to divesting his assets.

“As we discussed with your counsel, divestiture is the way to resolve these conflicts,” the office wrote on Twitter, revealing legal advice that would normally be confidential and adding in a separate post: “Bravo! Only way to resolve these conflicts of interest is to divest. Good call!”

In fact, Trump had made no such commitment, at least publicly....................

Tweets are included in article--some of them really are bizarre. What the heck is an Ethics Office doing tweeting comments when they are ones to get any cases regarding Trump????

Also-- come January 2017 --the Director only has one year left to work (in a 5-yr term). Nasty maybe of me but might he be hankering to be appointed for another 5 years???

I missed Last Word last night--Does anyone know if he had a segment on this issue??

U.S. New Mexico Sens. Tom Udall and Martin Heinrich appealed Wednesday to President Barack Obama to take action to protect the safety of demonstrators protesting the Dakota Access pipeline.

Udall and Heinrich each wrote to the president citing examples of violence in North Dakota against Standing Rock Sioux Tribe members and demonstrators camping in the area, The Albuquerque Journal reported.

“The current situation at Camp Oceti Sakowin is unsustainable and dangerous to everyone involved,” Heinrich wrote in the letter posted on his website. “I implore you to work with the Corps of Engineers and the Department of Justice to de-escalate the violence at the camp.”

More than 2,000 U.S. veterans are planning to descend on North Dakota this weekend, where they will make a human shield around the protesters there. More than 7,000 people are camped out in a massive months-long demonstration organized by the Standing Rock Sioux in opposition to the construction of the Dakota Access Pipeline, which they say threatens tribal lands.

The group, Veterans Stand for Standing Rock, has decided to protect the camp after the federal government called for its evacuation.

While the deadline for the evacuation has passed, both local authorities and the Army Corps of Engineers have confirmed that they have no plans to remove anybody by force, despite an emergency call from the state’s governor on Monday to immediately vacate the camp.

Veterans Stand for Standing Rock is headed by former U.S. Marine Michael Wood Jr. and Wesley Clark Jr., whose father is retired U.S. Army General Wesley Clark......................

Jill Stein campaign files for recount in Michigan

LANSING, Mich. — The campaign of Green Party candidate Jill Stein filed a request Wednesday for a recount of nearly 4.8 million ballots cast for president in Michigan.

Mark Brewer, the Michigan-based lawyer representing Stein, arrived at around 1:30 p.m. ET at the Board of Elections with several others representing the campaign. He brought along a check for $973,250, which represents the $125 per precinct that Stein must pay for the recount.

"I and the undersigned members of my slate of electors are aggrieved on account of fraud or mistake in the canvass of the votes by the inspectors of election, and/or the returns made by the inspectors and/or by the Board of County Canvassers and/or by the Board of State Canvassers," Stein said in her request. "I request that all of the precincts and absent voter counting board precincts within the state of Michigan be recounted by hand count."

A recount could begin as soon as Friday in the state's largest 19 counties, followed by the smaller counties, with a goal of finishing the statewide recount by Dec. 10.

Trump And Pence Bribe Carrier With Massive Taxpayer-Funded Giveaway To Score PR Win

http://www.politicususa.com/2016/11/29/huge-tax-giveaway-convinces-carrier-jobs-indiana-trump-pr-win.html

By Sean Colarossi on Tue, Nov 29th, 2016 at 8:58 pm............................

Donald Trump is expected to visit Indiana on Thursday to announce that he has struck a deal with United Technologies to keep almost 1,000 Carrier jobs in Indiana, CNBC reported.

The president-elect is likely to claim that his great dealmaking skills are responsible for making the agreement happen, but what he won’t say is that United Technologies – Carrier’s parent company – was basically bribed with taxpayer dollars to keep a few hundred jobs in Indiana – and it had nothing to do with Trump himself.

...................................

In other words, Pence served up a massive, taxpayer-funded handout to the company in order to score a short-term PR win. Trump will claim victory on Thursday when, really, it was a state-funded handout that convinced Carrier to keep some of its employees in the state.

The deal also represents a huge departure from Trump’s campaign-season rhetoric, when he repeatedly promised to take a tough stance on companies, specifically Carrier which Trump promised to penalize with a 35 percent tariff if they moved operations to Mexico.[/............
