The headline news from today's Washington Post poll is the astonishing unpopularity of Donald Trump. His net favorable rating is -37 percent: 30 percent like him and 67 percent don't. The other candidates have net negative ratings too, but nothing close to this.

On another subject, 69 percent of respondents claim to believe that the "current political system" is dysfunctional. I don't know whether to take that seriously, or just as a generalized gripe about politics. What's interesting, though, is who would do the most to address this. Trump is the top choice, unsurprisingly, but Hillary Clinton is close behind—which is a bit surprising. It certainly suggests, along with other evidence in this poll, that support for Hillary isn't just strong, but roughly as enthusiastic as it is for anyone else.

.................................In a forceful opening bid to win New York, which she represented in the United States Senate for eight years, Mrs. Clinton presented herself as the quintessential hometown candidate at a jubilant rally in Harlem, recalling her efforts to help emergency medical workers after the Sept. 11 attacks and create opportunities for struggling businesses upstate. Her advisers also unveiled a television commercial that criticizes Donald J. Trump, the leading Republican candidate, in hopes that targeting him will galvanize New York Democrats far more than attacking Mr. Sanders, who is popular among many liberals in the state.

But Mrs. Clinton did draw some contrasts with Mr. Sanders during her rally at the Apollo Theater. Describing her work in Harlem to combat a childhood asthma crisis when she was senator, Mrs. Clinton said she was focused on working with doctors and community leaders to get concrete results — an implicit jab at Mr. Sanders, whose ambitious ideas like free public colleges would probably go nowhere if Republicans continue to run Congress.

“It wasn’t about making a point, it was about making a difference,” Mrs. Clinton said about her work in Harlem and on other issues. “Some folks may have the luxury to hold out for the perfect, but a lot of Americans are hurting right now and they can’t wait for that. They need the good, and they need it today.”

Graphic: 2016 Delegate Count and Primary Results

A Marquette Law School poll of likely voters in the Wisconsin Democratic primary, published Wednesday, found that Mr. Sanders had a small edge over Mrs. Clinton; he has been gaining on her in Marquette polls in recent months. The senator is well behind Mrs. Clinton in their race to accumulate the 2,383 delegates needed to win the Democratic nomination, and is counting on victories in Wisconsin and especially New York to pick up delegates and deal setbacks to Mrs. Clinton. It would be a blow for her to lose the New York primary, given her history and ties in the state; while it might not significantly affect her delegate lead, it would inevitably lead questions about the strength of her candidacy and her appeal among liberals.

.......................

The Clinton campaign is also running commercials in Wisconsin, including one assailing the state’s Republican governor, Scott Walker, for cutting education budgets.

While not conceding Wisconsin to Mr. Sanders, Clinton advisers said that they thought he had some advantages in the state, given its history of progressive politics and the likelihood that the primary would attract many college students and independents — two key parts of the Sanders base.

Advisers said that Mrs. Clinton would return to Wisconsin before the primary and campaign in Eau Claire and Milwaukee;..............

As Hillary Clinton courted African-Americans in Harlem on Wednesday, across Central Park, in the gilded ballroom at the Metropolitan Club, former President Bill Clinton sipped a pint of Guinness and addressed the Irish, another critical constituency as the Democratic contest descends on New York City.

Accepting a lifetime achievement award at the Irish America Hall of Fame luncheon for his role in bringing peace to Northern Ireland, Mr. Clinton, wearing a green tie, didn’t mention his wife’s presidential campaign. Instead, he talked about his own 1992 campaign, when, as governor of Arkansas, he tried to learn how to win a New York primary.

“What happened to me — and it sort of happened to me — began here in this city, late at night, almost exactly 24 years ago when I was trying to win the New York primary,” Mr. Clinton explained.

Back then, a group of powerful Irish Americans and sympathizers, including the Clinton adviser Harold M. Ickes and former Representative Bruce Morrison of Connecticut, had assembled to talk to Mr. Clinton about the fighting that plagued Northern Ireland and what the next president could do.

“They were grilling me about all matter of things, and I think they were surprised I was prepared,” he said.

Mr. Clinton won the bitterly contested New York primary in 1992, catapulting him to the nomination.......................

WASHINGTON — A special House committee empaneled to investigate fetal tissue research issued subpoenas on Wednesday to eight medical organizations as part of an investigation that has led to charges of intimidation.

“The Select Investigative Panel is working in a thoughtful and thorough manner to find the facts about what exactly is going on at these abortion businesses and procurement organizations,” said Representative Marsha Blackburn, a Republican from Tennessee who leads the House Select Investigative Panel on Infant Lives. “Unfortunately, some of these organizations have so redacted documents — even after being subpoenaed — that it is impossible for us to get the complete picture of what is actually going on.”

Fred Fox, Biomed IRB’s executive director, ......................

The House panel was created to investigate fetal tissue research after the release of surreptitiously recorded videos that claimed to show Planned Parenthood officials trying to profit illegally from the sale of such tissue.

The videographers were indicted in Texas, ...............
.......................Twenty states have cleared Planned Parenthood or decided not to investigate. Few affiliates nationwide were engaged in fetal tissue transfers.

Ganogen Inc., based in San Leandro, Calif., also received subpoenas. The company is implanting fetal kidneys into rats in hopes of growing them large enough for transplants. The research has drawn the ire of anti-abortion activists, who have described the work as “horrific.”

The committee’s investigators hope the subpoenas will reveal what Republicans say is the seedy, unethical and gruesome world of fetal tissue research. But abortion rights and research advocates say that women never decide to have an abortion to provide tissue for researchers, so the tissue would be discarded, or it could be used for research that could potentially save millions of lives.

Some research using fetal tissue — including studies seeking to give mobility to people paralyzed after motor vehicle crashes — is showing extraordinary promise, researchers say........
