Now let's review the top causes of death by suicide

In the age groups 10 to 54, suicide is in the top 5, ages 55 to 64 it's in the top 10

I will be happy to put up the numbers for accidental deaths if you like.

Skew the statistics anyway you like. To try to make it sound like the numbers are negligible or insignificant so you are justified in having no gun laws, no permits, etc is ridiculous. Someone can't help dying from cancer. But each and every single one of the deaths from guns was completely preventable.

better yet

Let's take a look at the cause of death in homicides with firearms by age group. We'll just look at the age groups where homicide is in the top 5 causes of death. That's ages 1 to 34.

Give me a few minutes and I will post suicides.

Not sure what you counted

But total deaths from firearms in 2013 is 66,805

That's

Accidental discharge non- transport 505
Intentional self inflicted. 21,175
Assault (homicide) 11,208
Undetermined intent 281
Injury by firearm that caused
Other problems that ended in death 33,636

That's 66,805. That's OK with you?

Black lives matter but does that include black females?

It's been four months since Sheneque Proctor died under suspicious circumstances in an Alabama police department's holding cell. This 18 year old, mother of an infant son, was admittedly no angel. However, that didn't give the police the right to treat her as they did. She was slammed on to a police vehicle before being cuffed and thrown, roughly, into the car. Sheneque had asthma and was pepper sprayed at least twice. She informed the police about her asthma and the fact she was having problems breathing. She was found dead in her cell just a little more than 13 short hours after she was booked.

The autopsy says she died from a polydrug overdose. Yet the surveillance video, which had been promised to Sheneque's family, has still not been released. The cops claim she was checked on every half hour. They claim she was decontaminated after she was pepper sprayed. If there was no foul play and no neglect, why not release the video?

Rekia Boyd was fatally shot in the back of the head by an off duty, Chicago police officer. The 37 year old mother was just standing with friends in an ally when Dante Servin shot 5 times, over his shoulder, through the back window of his vehicle, because he "thought" he saw a gun pointed at him by a male in the group of friends with Rekia. Servin has been indicted but after almost 3 years, he still hasn't gone to trial.

Shereese Francis was a young woman with schizophrenia who had not been taking her medication. Shereese's mother called the police for help ,hoping to have her daughter put into a mental health facility. Instead, with police using excessive force, pounding and pushing on Ms. Francis' prone body on her bed, they killed her. Though there was a civil suit that the family won, no criminal charges were brought against any of the four officers that tackled and crushed her to death

There are so many more stories like these. At least four women killed in no knock raids that were either the wrong home or had nothing to do with them. This includes the murder of the sleeping child, Aiyana Stanley-Jones. Many of these names are unfamiliar to most people, even though their deaths were at the hands of the police and the women were unarmed. Alesia Thomas, Malissa Williams, Shelly Frey and most recently, Yuvette Henderson and Natasha McKenna.

Besides the outright murder of women of color by police, the number of deaths and sexual assault of women of color behind bars seems to go unnoticed and not addressed.

A recent report by the African American Policy Forum, Black Girls Matter, addresses the problems starting from schools through incarceration and potential solutions. It was authored by Dr. Kimberlé Crenshaw and Dr. Luke Harris.

The current movement to end police violence against people of color, the outright murder of young black men especially, is a noble and needed demand for equality, transparency, justice and end to the racial profiling as well as impunity of police. What is lacking in the movement is the inclusion of women of color who are systematically abused and killed by police and guards.

If you see black and blue, you're a Democrat

If you see white and gold, you're a Republican.

Or we could make it a sexuality test. I actually see both from the same picture and I am bisexual. So there ya go!

Here's the explanation as to why some see one thing, and others see another. While some of us see both.

Seems like there are fewer posts, fewer recs and fewer replies to most posts the last couple of weeks.

Republicans already starting fight to stop new FCC rules on net neutrality

It didn't even take them a day to introduce legislation to reverse the FCC rules.

House Republicans are trying to block the new net neutrality rules passed by the FCC, and are turning a victory for the open internet into an Obama conspiracy theory.

In a letter to FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler, the Republicans threatened to block the new net neutrality rules:

We are also troubled by the manner in which the ‘Open Internet’ rules were formulated. On November 10, 2014, President Obama urged the FCC to impose Title II regulations on the Internet. Shortly thereafter, you began making statements in support of a Title II approach. Certainly, the timing of your support for Title II following the President’s recommendation calls into question the degree, if not the existence, of the FCC’s independence from the White House.

….

We will not stand by idly as the White House, using the FCC, attempts to advance rules that imperil the future of the Internet. We plan to support and urge our colleagues to pass a Congressional Review Act resolution disapproving the “Open Internet” rules. Not only will such a resolution nullify the ‘Open Internet’ rules, the resolution will prevent the FCC from relying on Title II for any future net neutrality rules unless Congress explicitly instructs the FCC to take such action.

Republicans are doing what they do best. They are trying to take the democracy out of the internet and sell it to corporations. The internet is a relatively pure form of free market principles. Their effort to block net neutrality demonstrates that instead of liberty House Republicans are most interested in selling freedom to corporate oligarchs.

It looks like the House Republicans have little to no chance of actually getting their bill signed into law, but that won't stop them from trying. Especially with the corporate funding at stake.

The broadband corporations have more up their sleeves to try to usurp FCC rules. The 3 to 2 vote yesterday on net neutrality, making broadband a utility, will most likely be challenged in court by Team Cable. It was only a few hours after the vote that Verizon put out two press releases criticizing the rules

Battle For the Net is celebrating while starting action against any bills to end neutrality. They list the players for "Team Cable" and "Team Internet" Too bad DU isn't part of Team Internet.

Here is the link to take action, should you so choose.

I need some help finding a case

I believe it was just a year or two ago. It was a case brought against an employer in Georgia, I believe.

The woman was fired or had some case against the employer based on gender. I believe it went through the appellate court. She lost because it was found that the 14th amendment didn't apply to women.

I have searched every way I can think of and can't find it. Does anyone remember this?

Thank you

Why does legislation have to name each group to end discrimination?

Getting real tired of infighting and the different disenfranchised groups fighting with each other. We all need the same thing, equal, fair treatment under the law.

Why can't we all work as one for an amendment to the Constitution that says, to steal from the ERA:

Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any state for any reason.

Seriously. There is absolutely no reason to discriminate. Period.

Yes folks, the Cook County, Illinois Sheriff's Department wants you to know, they're the Grim Reaper

I was at northwestern memorial hospital today. When I was on the escalator, going to grab a sandwich after a long stint in the doctor's office, a young woman was ahead of me. Her jacket had me perplexed and I wanted to know what it was about. But she went one way and I went the other.

On my way back down, she was again ahead of me. I had to ask. "Excuse me, I'm sorry to bother you. I have to know, what does Cook County have to do with the Grim Reaper?" She said, "Oh, my brother is a Cook County Sheriff Deputy. The jacket is from them." I said, "you have to be shitting me! So they're advertising they'll kill you. Call a cop, meet the Grim Reaper." She laughed and said, that's about right. Last year, they change it every year, it was a grizzly bear scratching some guy with his claws." And she acted out the picture.

We spoke for a couple minutes about this, laughed a lot about the audacity of the cops. She showed me the sleeve that has the CPD, CFD and CCSD logos. Then she let me take a picture.
