WMUR: Bernie Sanders Presidential Announcement Coming Tuesday

Bernie Sanders is getting ready for a second run for president.

WMUR has learned that an email announcing the Vermont senator's plans to run for president will be sent to his supporters on Tuesday.

A key Sanders supporter told WMUR that one of Sanders’ closest advisors informed the supporter that the announcement will be made in an email. It was not made clear to the supporter whether it will be an outright announcement of a candidacy or an announcement of an exploratory committee.

The Hill on Saturday, citing two people familiar with the plan, reported that an announcement of an exploratory would be made this week. Politico reported on Saturday that Sanders has recorded a video in which he says he is running for president.

The Sanders supporter who spoke with WMUR was unsure if the email announcement will include the video, although the supporter said it is likely. The supporter said also plans for at least one announcement speech, if not two, are in the works.

Flashback: Sons of New York - Bernie Sanders

Published on Apr 16, 2016
It has been the goal of Democrats since President Franklin Delano Roosevelt to create a universal health care system that guaranteed health care to everyone. FDR was born and raised in New York, and understood that real change could not be accomplished with incrementalism. He's not the only native son to think that way.

Bernie Sanders might launch presidential bid at Brooklyn College

By Carl Campanile February 17, 2019 | 6:01pm

He still feels the Bern — for Brooklyn and the presidency.

Vermont democratic socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders’ camp is in talks with Brooklyn College about giving a major outdoor speech at the campus, fueling speculation that the rally there would be part of a roll-out for a second presidential run.

The Flatbush native attended Brooklyn College for a year, not far from his childhood home, and his older brother, Larry, is a Brooklyn College graduate. He has kept close ties to the City University of New York school, having delivered the commencement speech there in 2017, when he received an honorary degree.

The rally would be delivered on the campus’ spacious quad, according to a source familiar with the planning. Brooklyn College President Michelle Anderson declined to comment.

The Sanders campaign had no immediate comment but one of his backers said, “You’re onto something.”

Sanders expected to announce exploratory committee next week (--Updated at 5:16 p.m.)

BY MAX GREENWOOD - 02/16/19 03:47 PM EST

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) is expected to launch a 2020 presidential exploratory committee next week, according to two people familiar with the plans.

Sanders’s is gearing up to release a video in the coming days announcing his exploratory committee. News that Sanders had already recorded the announcement video was first reported on Saturday by Politico.

Sanders’s anticipated announcement is part of a so-called “soft launch” of a campaign, one person familiar with the plans told The Hill.

Forming an exploratory committee will allow Sanders to begin laying the groundwork of a campaign by raising money and hiring staff.

Josh Miller Lewis, a spokesperson for Sanders, did not immediately respond to The Hill’s request for comment about the senator’s plans.

Bernie Sanders records video announcing 2020 campaign

By HOLLY OTTERBEIN 02/16/2019 01:38 PM EST

Bernie Sanders, inching closer to a second bid for the White House, has recorded a campaign video in which he says he is running for president in 2020, according to two people familiar with the spot.

It’s the latest sign the independent senator, the runner-up in the 2016 contest for the Democratic nomination, is nearing a presidential announcement.

Another hint that Sanders is getting closer to a launch: As POLITICO reported this week, the Sanders team has been interviewing people for top staff positions. Chuck Rocha, a political consultant who advised Sanders’ 2016 campaign, is expected to join him again if a second bid materializes.

It is unclear when, or even whether, the Sanders video will be released.
