About Me

Always a Democrat. I can't understand conservatives. I try to understand them, but I can't. They don't make sense. Our country has gone so far right since 1981. I was just an average American who took many Democratic values for granted when Reagan was elected. It was like the rug was pulled out from under our society. Reagan ruined our country.

Ted Cruz was punked!!

If nothing makes you happier than seeing a politician be unwittingly owned by a constituent who completely opposes their cynical conservative agenda, today’s your lucky day.

The morsel of joy you are about to see comes courtesy of Rebecca, an Austin, Texas woman who doesn’t use her surname on Twitter, but goes by the handle @LazyyMillennial. Rebecca ran into one of the Senators representing her state in Congress at the Dallas airport and seized the opportunity to stage an epic photo prank that will wipe the smile off of the beaming face of Senator Raphael “Ted” Cruz (R-TX) once he sees the photo.

Rebecca is obviously not a fan of Senator Cruz and was fortuitously wearing the perfect message on a lanyard under her blazer when she saw Cruz and approached him to ask to take a picture with him. A last-minute opening of the jacket before the shutter snapped meant that Senator Cruz had no idea what was happening to him while he smiled and posed for the photo with what he thought was an admiring constituent.

Little did he know that Rebecca’s innocent visage hid the mind of a clever trickster who managed to completely undermine the Senator without him having the slightest awareness of the message on her lanyard.

For those who don't have twitter, here is the pic:

TRS Board Discusses Future Shortfalls as Critical Primary Election Looms

(A few weeks old, but very relevant. Teachers do not have SS withheld. My husband wants to retire next year. They really hate us!!)

I was listening to a retired educator testify before the TRS board at their annual board retreat this morning. She expressed that retirees are scared about increasing healthcare premiums and upcoming changes that will greatly impact the actuarial picture of the pension fund. She also asked for TRS to advocate on behalf of retirees in dealing with the legislature. It was moving testimony. However, I wish she and all educators, active and retired, would shift their mentality from scared to angry and look not to TRS to take care of them next session, but instead look to themselves to be their own best advocates, at the polls where these decisions are really made.

The reality is TRS is an administrative agency, and while the TRS staff does a phenomenal job, their job is to implement the legislature’s will, NOT to lobby the legislature on behalf of TRS members. In fact, all state agency staff, TRS staff included, are prohibited by state law from engaging in lobbying efforts.

TRS has hard days ahead. If the defined benefit pension system or TRS-provided retiree healthcare are going to continue to exist, active teachers and retired teachers alike will have to use their voices not only at the capitol but also at the polls.

First, TRS is set to drop its assumed rate of return from 8 percent to 7.25 percent. This one action, at least on paper, will make the fund go from healthy to anything but. There is already extreme pressure from Wall Street money managers and the politicians willing to work on their behalf to convert TRS to a 401(k) style system off of which they could make huge profits. Without other changes offsetting the drop to 7.25, this pressure will likely increase exponentially as the pension fund will look considerably more vulnerable going forward.

This is why I support Andrew White for governor. This is life and death for us.

I ran for "dog catcher" and I won!

Just joking, I ran for Precinct Chair and I won

In early February, I pulled out a sample ballot and saw my name on it.

My jaw almost dropped.

Long story how it got on there, but it is what it is.

When I saw my name on the ballot, I wasn't going to campaign at all.

Then, I started thinking about it and thinking about it.

So, I campaigned and got 80% of the vote! (My opponent was not engaged with his precinct. He didn't campaign)

In Memory of Sridevi!!!

Bollywood superstar who died of a sudden heart attack yesterday. She was only 54 and pictures her taken just hours before her death show her looking healthy as ever.

She's in green behind the little girl.

Indivisible posts actions and scripts in response to Nunes Memo

Democrats should read their rebuttal memo into the congressional record. If Republicans are going to release the Nunes memo, we also need to see the Democrats’ rebuttal memo. The committee voted to suppress the Democratic memo, but there’s something the Democrats can do to make it public.

Any Member of Congress who has access to the Democratic memo, or can speak about its conclusions, should read it into the congressional record. The “Speech and Debate Clause” of the U.S. Constitution would protect that MoC from liability, even if the information is classified.

To be clear: this is a dramatic move. It’s the same thing that Senator Mike Gravel did in 1971 to disclose the “Pentagon Papers” - classified government documents that exposed the truth about the Vietnam War.

Also if you are on FB you can watch their video:

So did they cut him off early?

Started playing Hail to the Chief while he was still talking and screen moved to Joe Kennedy?

Geeks needed....was this YouTube video created by the DU hacker?

This was posted in General Discussion, but I think it needs to be posted here.

If you look at the YouTube video you can see the open browser tabs and open programs on the uploader's computer.

Screen shot of his browser:
And of his open programs:

Some discussion of tabs at the GD link

Why would someone be recording DU at the exact time of the hack if they weren't the hacker?

Two browser tabs show interest in guns, one is about Assange..one appears to be from stackoverflow.com.

I wouldn't spend time at stackoverflow.com unless, I was into programming.

Two of his open programs are MS Paint and Notepad. It may or may not mean anything, but I know Notepad is used for writing code.

The video that was embedded into DU was created in 2015 and was entitled "Episode 15 Hold Back The Night" by a Murdoch Murdoch. It has been floating around YouTube for awhile.

The hack occurred on November 8, 2016. This YouTube video showing the DU hack was recorded and uploaded on Nov. 8, 2016.

How do I select who to vote for local Dem Party Chair?

"I am at an impasse.

Our current county chair is being challenged.

Current Chair
He is wading into the primaries and semi-endorsing candidates. (He has his favorites and is fairly public about it)
He ran for mayor while he was party chair
He is an opportunist.
People spread rumors about him such as, "He has his favorite precinct chairs etc" or they say "such and such Precinct chair is one of his loyalist" etc.

He runs the meetings well and knows the party by-laws
I've heard that prior to his tenure meetings became free-for-alls
He seems to control various factions at the meetings by not allowing certain people to monopolize a meeting.
Before he was on the scene, there was a huge embezzlement of $200,000.
During his tenure, the books are clean
The Budget and Finance Committee are front and center at each meeting.
He has time to devote to the job

She wants to avoid wading into the primaries and any cronyism
She has only attended one CEC Meeting
She is not a precinct chair
She became interested in politics in the past few months.
She has no history of activism
Does she have the experience?
Will she have the time to devote to the job?

She is a woman and people are pushing, "The time is now".
I am afraid that because of lack of experience, she may not run the meetings as well and they may devolve in "free for alls" once again.
I don't know if she will be able to devote the same amount of time to the job as the current chair.

Our current chair is far from perfect.
So many people are supporting his challenger because she is "not him".
Our local Invisible groups are supporting his opponent, but are the supporting him based on her qualifications or are the voting on her because she is "not him".

If he is so bad, why hasn't a more experienced candidate stepped up earlier?

I'm lost.

Thanks for reading my rant.

Any advice?
