Ironically, the former Republican office-holder, Lincoln Chaffee, is more progressive

than the former elected Democratic Senator Jim Webb of VA.

I wish I had known him. Maybe I did, and didn't realize it.

People like your Dad are a treasure to all, but especially to their family.
Condolences to you and to your mother.

Doesn't "leaving no man behind" refer to military personnel?

It's my impression, and I don't know for certain, but I believe none of those held is a US military person.

I believe some persons who fall into the hands of certain nations are independent travelers or journalists or missionaries who have either broken the laws of the countries they are visiting or have deliberately or through lack of knowledge or naivete or misplaced idealism put themselves in jeopardy. In so doing, they put their native country - USA- in an extremely difficult position, where oft times normal diplomacy is not enough to undo their folly or damage.

Where will blacks soon be the majority?

I know that there are areas where "minorities", which includes blacks, Hispanics, and Asians either are or will be majorities - ex., parts of California.
Agree that blacks should get out and vote, regularly, and in local and state elections, and that they should run for political office.

Your Grandpa looks very kindly.

Remember that birthday shown in the photo and how pleased you, he and the family were to celebrate with him.

It's my understanding that a personality disorder cannot be "cured."

Managed or modified, perhaps, if the one with the disorder has the insight and the will to do so.
They may not recognize boundaries and may be compulsive.

I do not have medical training, but have a family member with such a disorder, so I have empathy for your problem.
My problem is that I am growing older, the family member is growing more entrenched in these behaviors, and I am not a patient as I once was.

Sorry I do not have any real solutions for you.

PLease, no. I could never vote for Nader.

Besides, he's older than God.
(81, to be exact)

He gave a 30-minute press conference on the plane after leaving. Most interesting.

Covered a variety of topics, including the upcoming US visit.
The official wording has not been released by the Vatican, but an English-speaking press pool has put together an interprestation of his words.
BBC News.
(Sorry no link, but I'm sure someone will come up with it very soon. Links are not my strong point.)

I heard on TV this morning that his wife is 12 years older than he is.

Not that there's anything wrong with that.
Just somewhat out of the ordinary.
I'd better verify there elsewhere online.

Edited to add: Yes, apparently, that is so. She was a widow.

I can understand how first cousins can be "interested" in one another,

especially in the teen years, when they are first noticing the opposite sex, and in each other's company frequently.

I would think older family members would discourage, if they saw it progressing, just because of society's taboos associated with marriage between cousins. Some relationships cannot be prevented though - they'll happen regardless.

And, yes, you're correct re double cousins in smaller communities.
