Macron steps to Gerard Depardieu's defense
So it seems Gerard made scandalous lewd remarks while acting as a French good-will ambassador touring North Korea, which per a video clip on Twitter, were met with the polite laughter. Now many in France, including Macron's culture minister, want to strip Depardieu of his French Legion of Honor award.
When asked last week about the situation on a televised chat show, Macron surprised everyone by leaping to Depardieu's defense, deploring jury by public opinion and ending with "Je deteste ça," meaning I detest that sort of thing.
So what do you think? On the one hand, Macron is clearly motivated by political considerations, specifically his upcoming reelection prospects and the rising popularity of Marine Le Pen, who recently scored big parliamentary election victories. On the other hand, we could have used some Macaroni back when Minnesota senator Al Franken was being railroaded out his seat and got exactly zero support from party leaders.
In any event it was bold move that in all likelihood pay off for Macron not to mention Depardieu. Here's the Twitter video:

Kennedy sent the 1964 Civil Rights Act to Congress in 1963
That's not to say that you're wrong about who had the bigger impact, but Kennedy's role in that legislation is usually forgotten:
The Report to the American People on Civil Rights was a speech on civil rights, delivered on radio and television by United States President John F. Kennedy from the Oval Office on June 11, 1963 in which he proposed legislation that would later become the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

Trudeau Blasts Trump's Role in Inciting 'Horrifying' U.S. Riot
Source: Bloomberg
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau condemned U.S. President Donald Trump for inciting his followers to mount a violent insurrection at the U.S. Capitol this week.
What we witnessed was an assault on democracy by violent rioters, incited by the current president and other politicians, Trudeau told reporters Friday in Ottawa. Violence has no place in our societies and extremists will not succeed in overruling the will of the people.
Trudeaus rebuke comes two days after pro-Trump rioters broke into the Capitol building in Washington, disrupting Congresss count of Electoral College votes -- a scene the prime minister described as horrifying. U.S. lawmakers are now pushing for Trump to be impeached, even as his term enters its final days.
As shocking, deeply disturbing and frankly saddening as that event remains, weve also seen this week that democracy is resilient in America, our closest ally and neighbor, he added.

DC updates: 4 dead, 52 arrested, 14 police officers injured after pro-Trump rioters breach US Capitol; FBI opens investigation
Updated 1:00 am E.T. Jan. 7, 2021
WASHINGTON The nation's lawmakers took to their electoral duties late Wednesday amid broken glass and smashed doors in the U.S. Capitol following an historic day of havoc wrought by pro-Trump rioters who breached the building in hopes of thwarting President-elect Joe Biden's victory.
Thousands of rioters had gathered at the National Mall to protest the election results. At a campaign-style rally about an hour before the mob broke through police lines at the Capitol, Trump had urged them to go to the building.
D.C. Police Chief Robert Contee said the chaotic day included four fatalities: a woman who was shot by the U.S. Capitol Police, as well as three others two men and one woman who died in separate medical emergencies. Police had made "in excess of 52 arrests," including 26 on U.S. Capitol grounds, he said.
At least 14 Metropolitan Police Department Officers were injured during the demonstrations, Contee said. Two pipe bombs one from the DNC and one from the RNC were also recovered by police, he said.

Violence erupts in new Paris protest against security law
Source: France 24
Issued on: 05/12/2020 - 16:24
Violence erupted in Paris on Saturday for the second consecutive weekend at a mass protest against a new security law, with demonstrators clashing with police, vehicles set alight and shop windows smashed.
The weekly nationwide protests are becoming a major headache for President Emmanuel Macron's government, with tensions intensified by the beating of a black music producer by police last month.
Members of the Yellow Vests movement, which shook Macron with protests against economic hardship in France over the winter of 2018-2019, were also prominent in the rally.
Windows of a supermarket, property agency and bank were broken while several cars burst into flames along Avenue Gambetta as demonstrators marched towards Place de la République in eastern Paris, AFP reporters said.

Rudy's Three Words
For some perspective on one-time rival Giuliani's unholy obsession with blocking Biden's win:
"Rudy Giuliani is probably the most underqualified man since George Bush to seek the presidency. . . . There's only three things he mentions in a sentence: a noun and a verb and 9/11."
