I think you are absolutely right.

Especially this: "The whatever the suspect does, you have to meet with greater force means you can beat up almost anyone, as long as what they were doing was deemed threatening action."

This is indeed how they appear to operate. If that's the training they're given, it would explain a lot.

The scariest part of this is that whether an action is "deemed threatening" can be a very subjective judgment. From what I've observed, a lot of cops (like Chauvin) seem to "deem" ANY action made by a poc as "threatening," almost by default. That is a very serious problem that badly needs to be addressed.

This is the kind of thing that points up the HUGE contrast

between President Biden and He Who Must Not Be Named.

I can easily imagine Obama and some other presidents doing something like this, too, but I'm sure it wouldn't enter the Traitorous Psychopath's head to pick up a toy even for one of his own kids, let alone somebody else's. The idea of him ever lifting a hand to help a child or anyone else is unimaginable.

Okay, but

I agree that law enforcement does little to deter certain kinds of crimes. But getting rid of it entirely is not the answer. Which is just as well, because there's no way enough people would ever agree to support such a plan.

Lots of reform is needed, for law enforcement and the whole criminal justice system. The way cops are recruited and trained needs to change drastically. And yes, reallocation of some of the money now earmarked for policing is a good idea, But just eliminate law enforcement entirely? No way. Even IF people could somehow be talked into it (fat chance), the results would be chaos.

Ain't gonna happen, and wouldn't have the results you're proposing if it did.

"You are making history"

Just got my second Pfizer shot today! And in the room where the vaccine was being administered, this very cool sign was prominently displayed:

Hubby got his second dose of Moderna on Friday, so we are both done for now. Two more Americans added to the "fully vaccinated" column.

For those interested in the details, this one was totally painless. I felt a momentary sting with the first one, but this just felt like a gentle touch. It will be interesting to see what kind of reaction I have, but I'm not worried about it. Last time all I had was a sore arm that lasted a day or two. Same with my husband and the Moderna. He said the soreness was more pronounced with the second one, but it went away pretty fast.

To anyone who is still waiting/searching for an appointment, hang in there! Your turn will come!

Har har har dee har har.

That's my version of sarcastic laughter.

During the Vietnam era, there was a popular slogan used on posters, buttons, t-shirts, etc.: "What if they gave a war and nobody came?"

The slogan for this story should be: "What if they gave a white supremacist hate fest and nobody came?"

Seriously.

A 5'9" guy who only weighed 140 would be skinny as a toothpick. There's no freaking way he was that thin at the time of the killing, and If he does weigh that now (which I don't believe, but IF) he must have been on one hell if a crash diet.

And in any case, Mr Alleged Toothpick Man was armed, as were all the other cops that were there (and Floyd was NOT).

What an absolute load of crap.

Yes, as with abortion laws, this is about controlling other peoples bodies.

It's also about telling doctors and other health care providers how to do their jobs, instead of allowing them to make decisions based on their professional judgment and the training that they spent years and untold amounts of money aquiring.

In effect, they are saying: "We, a bunch of ignorant, redneck politicians, believe that we know more about how to practice medicine than all you highly trained and officially licensed medical professionals, and you are going to do it OUR way or else. Fuck your training and experience and professional judgnent." Which is, of course, a huge giant load of bull crap.

Assholes.

Agreed, on standardization.

The current crazy quilt of election regulations disenfranchises many and makes absolutely no sense to me, especially when it comes to electing a potus.

The idea that all American citizens do not have the same access to the ballot box is deeply offensive to me.

The idea that you can't con an honest person makes no sense to me.

A person can easily be both deeply honest and highly gullible. Look at the scams that people fall for and the kinds of people that fall for them. Many, if not most, are based on the willingness of the "mark" to believe whatever outlandish notions they are fed (Nigerian "princes," I'm looking at you), and that has very little to do with whether they themselves are honest people.

Greed can certainly make a person more vulnerable to certain types of "get rich quick" scams, but greed isn't a synonym for dishonesty, any more than gullibility is. Chump's followers are gullible, but I do not believe that automatically means they are all dishonest people. To say they fell for Trump's dishonesty because they are not honest themselves sounds like victim blaming to me.

Here's an article that talks about the reasons people get suckered into scams: https://theconversation.com/five-psychological-reasons-why-people-fall-for-scams-and-how-to-avoid-them-102421 (Dishonesty on the part of those being scammed is not on the list.)
