Father of Young Girls Killed at Sacramento Church Identified as Shooter: 'Unspeakable Tragedy' Sourc

The man who shot and killed his three children, their chaperone, and himself at a Sacramento, Calif. church on Monday has been identified.

The Sacramento County Coroner's Office identified David Mora, 39, as the father and shooter. Local authorities say Mora fatally shot his three daughters — Samia, 13, Samantha, 10, and Samarah, 9 — and their chaperone, Nathaniel Kong, 59, during a supervised visit with his kids.

Mora had been living at the church and was required to have supervised visits with his children due to a restraining order by his estranged girlfriend, according to Sgt. Rod Grassmann.

"It is unfathomable that you could shoot a child, kill the child, moreso that it would be your own child. The motive will be certainly under investigation," Grassmann told reporters, per ABC 10. "I would have to think that who could do that would only be somebody who hates their ex more than they loved their children."

According to this Florida forced birth* activist, birth control doesn't prevent abortions.

He claims it causes them.

https://twitter.com/bubbaprog/status/1495835831529005065

Andrew Shirvell, executive director of Florida Voice for the Unborn, testified on Monday in favor of a proposed 15-week abortion ban by saying that birth control often fails, which results in people seeking abortions, or in his words: “The contraceptive mentality is what fuels the bloodthirsty abortion industry in our country.”

*I refuse to use the term pro-life, because I consider it dishonest and inaccurate, and because it implies that anyone who supports access to safe, legal abortion is "pro-death," which is patently ludicrous.

She lies to nap between my husband's legs while he's watching TV in his recliner.

She's awake here, because I accidentally woke her up taking pictures.

Amendment that could out LGBTQ students withdrawn from Florida's 'Don't Say Gay' bill

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — The amendment of Florida's controversial "Don't Say Gay" bill currently in the legislature that could forcibly out LGBTQ students has been withdrawn.

Looks like there was too much heat, so Repugs decided to back (part of the way) out of the kitchen.

The rest of the bill is still awful, of course.

For those who need a scorecard to keep track of Trump's legal woes, I think I've found something.

There's a whole blog devoted to this.

Legal threats facing former President Donald J. Trump
https://trumpslegalproblems.webnode.com/

Out of office and without many of the legal protections the presidency afforded him, Donald J. Trump and his adult children, lawyers and businesses are facing multiple lawsuits as well as multiple criminal and civil investigations. Trump is also filing lawsuits against his many perceived enemies, including Facebook and his niece, Mary.

And now the former president is hinting strongly he will run again in 2024. In an interview with Fox News in November, 2021 Trump said, "I am certainly thinking about it and we'll see. I think a lot of people will be very happy, frankly, with the decision, and probably will announce that after the midterms."

A January, 2022 Harvard CAPS/Harris poll of Republicans showed the former president with a clear lead at 57%. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis was a distant second with 12% and former VP Mike Pence third at 11%.

JustSecurity.org commented on how the multiple lawsuits and investigations faced by the former president might affect any future campaign. "These cases bear on two pressing questions. First, will Trump maintain his long streak of eluding legal liability in the face of so many lawsuits? Second, if Trump is held to account for illegal conduct, what impact will such a development have on his - and his family's - political and business fortunes?"

An index follows the above. It includes:

- lawsuits
- criminal indictment(s) (just one so far, but I'm sure there will be more)
- investigations
- partial settlement (just one so far)
- disposition of three Trump cases (others to be added as future events transpire)

There is commentary on each individual item, together with links to news and commentary sources used in the blog.

Apologies if this is old hat to anyone here. I was today years old when I discovered this thing, so it's all new to me!

Detailed 2022 congressional district maps for Illinois?

I have a question I'm hoping someone here may be able to help with: how can I find out which congressional district I'm going to be in, now that the district boundaries have been redrawn?

My county used to be split 2 ways, between districts 6 and 14, but from what I've been able to learn, it's now going to be divided between 4 districts: 9, 10, 11, and 16. The problem is, I can't find a 2022 congressional district map with enough detail to tell for sure where I am. It looks like 9, but I'm just not sure, because the only maps I can find online have broad outlines that aren't all that helpful, especially for the Chicago area, which as you all probably know, is carved up into numerous, very oddly shaped chunks.

The primaries are still a ways off, so there's no rush, but it would be nice to know for sure.

(Edited to reflect new districting information I learned after my initial post.)

I agree.

I was raised a Southern Baptist, which is basically old school evangelical Christianity, and I can assure you that praying for world leaders to be guided in their decisions or (as in this case) praying for someone's "heart and mind" to be changed so that they see the error of their ways is absolutely nothing new. Whether this has any effect is a whole separate conversation. All I am saying is that there is nothing new, shocking, or treasonous about this.

Prayer is a HUGE thing in these people's lives, and they pray about everything and "for" everyone. All. The. Damned. Time. It's like that Geico commercial says: It's what they do. Prayer is a very BFD to them. Whatever is on their minds, they pray about it, and the looming thread of war in Ukraine is certainly something that is weighing on a lot of people's minds right now.

I realize the whole concept of asking God to make things better sounds silly and childish to a lot of people, but that's a whole separate issue and, imo, neither nor there. The point is that it should not be shocking to anyone when an evangelical preacher tells his followers to prayer for someone like Putin.

Personally, I can't stand Franklin Graham. I think he's flat, dead wrong about a lot of things, and he represents a brand of Christianity that I consider to be toxic in many ways. Anyone who wants to tear a strip off of him when it comes to his anti-LGBTQ+ views, his toxic misogyny, etc., is more than welcome to do so, afaic. But the idea that his asking people to pray for Putin neans he's some sort of pro-Putin traitor is just plain silly. I don't think he wants Ukraine to be invaded any more than we do. He's just telling his people to do what they would do in response to any problem, large or small: pray about it and pray for the people involved. This is s.o.p. for those folks, and people need to quit reading things into this that aren't there and blowing it all out of proportion.
