ShazzieB's JournalChicago's lesbian mayor shouted "F**k Clarence Thomas" at Pride rally & the crowd loved it
F**k Clarence Thomas, Lightfoot said in video posted to social media by Chicago Tribune reporter Gregory Pratt, who said that the clip is going viral in rightwing circles.
The exchange took place at Chicagos Pride festivities this weekend, where Lightfoot addressed the crowd and was bringing up Thomass concurrence in Dobbs v. Jackson Womens Health Organization where he brought up Obergefell v. Hodges (which legalized marriage equality in all 50 states) and Lawrence v. Texas (which banned states from throwing people in jail for having gay sex) as cases that could be overturned now that Roe has been overturned.

Lightfoot brought up Thomass concurring opinion at the Chicago Pride event and someone in the crowd interrupted her. Thank you, f**k Clarence Thomas! she shouted back. He thinks that we are going to stand idly by while they take our rights, our right to marry, our right to have children?div]

He really DID plan on going to the Captol!
Out of everything we just heard, I think that is what surprised me the most. How many of us thought he deliberately lied when he told the MAGAts he going with them? I know I sure did! And why wouldn't he? He lies about everything all the time anyway. This was just one more of many lies, or so I thought.
But now we know he had EVERY INTENTION of going there! He REALLY WANTED to go there, to march into that building like a victorious general leading his troops in an invasion and give a speech on the spot!
He wanted to go SO much that he tried to wrest the steering wheel from his driver when he realized he was being taken back to the White House. (And remember this is a guy who, by all accounts, never ever drives and may not even have a license.) He even tried to strangle a Secret Service agent!
He wanted to go to the Capitol, really, really, REALLY bad, and the only reason he didn't is because other people (the Secret Service, I presume?) stopped him from going! That is blowing my mind, because of what it says about the true extent of his delusions of grandeur!
He thought he could actually go to the Capitol to "look powerful" (❗ , march in there, and... do what, exactly? I'm not sure, except feed his ego and bask in the glow of being surrounded by his loyal warriors who were ready to literally kill people for him.
To me, the truth of what he really wanted to do is much more fucked up than just siccing his attack dogs on Congress and sitting back to see what would happen,, as I originally thought.
I don't have any doubt that he meant every word when he said Pence deserved to be hanged (i.e., murdered). He absolutely meant it, and he was probably very disappointed that it didn't happen. *shudder*
I thought I knew what a monster he was, but this is next level monsterdom. Holy crap!
Reproductive rights image dump
One again, I am expressing my frustration with SCOTUS by posting a selection of images. Some are new, some are old and may have appeared at DU before in my posts or someone else's.
I'll start with a yard sign. The only thing I don't like about living in an apartment is not being able to put up yard signs like this:
Purchase this sign at: https://shout-your-abortion.square.site/product/sya-yard-sign/84

And speaking of the Extreme Court:

Other stuff
And one more yard sign:
The bitter irony of forced birth in the U.S.
This tweet really nails it, imo.

Text of tweet:
Forced birth in a country with:
No universal healthcare
No universal childcare
No paid family & medical leave
One of the highest rates of maternal mortality among rich nations
This isn't about "life." It's about control.
Pritzker says Illinois will remain 'safe haven' for women after SCOTUS ruling
CHICAGO Shortly after the Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) overturned Roe v. Wade, which had guaranteed a womans right to abortion, Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker called for increased protection of abortion in the state.
Let me make this explicit and clear to women throughout our state, the Midwest, and our nation: Illinois will be a safe haven for the exercise of your reproductive rights, he said. In Illinois, Roe v. Wade is still the law, and it will remain the law as long as we have a pro-choice legislature and a pro-choice governor. Here, we trust you to make your own decisions about your reproductive health. We will defend your right to bodily autonomy.
*snip*
Pritzker emphasized that abortions are still legal under Illinois Reproductive Health Act. Hes also called the general assembly into special session to address Reproductive Health Rights.
Pritzker said the decision is attack on constitutional freedom and that right now abortion is under attack and next it will be contraceptives and then it will be fertility treatments.

I am SO glad I live in this state an even more glad that my daughter does!
