The pyramids of Egypt are without a doubt

the most visited, most widely known, highest profile, often celebrated, and at the same time most blindly ignored monuments to human slavery ever known.

Why is nobody anywhere advocating tearing down this monument that celebrates slave labor. It can't be that it simply is located in a foreign country ? could it ? is it because they were Christian ? Is it because they weren't really slaves because they weren't black ?

It'll be interesting to hear the reasons that this monument to slave labor and human oppression is considered a "wonder of the world", and an amazing tribute to what people can accomplish.

I assume " because it wasn't done on American soil" will be the default reason for not giving a crap. But I'm still interested in why there has never, been any discussion or reference to the hundreds of thousands of slaves from all over the world that were worked and tortured to death to build the Pharaoh's stone block pile ?

the second most common answer will likely be a joke, that disregards the slaves murdered for this construction project, and instead makes light of their slavery for the sake an alien visitor one liner.

If the answer is "because it's their problem to deal with", then doesn't that remove all credibility for American protests regarding foreign slave labor ?

The Civil War was about...........

The South wanting to secede, and the North wanting to prevent it.
-or-
The North wanting to free the slaves.

It's surprising how ignorant some are as to the extent the righteous North, condoned, ignored and even participated in slavery. the North accepted the slave trade and enjoyed the fruits of production derived from slavery. The North could not allow the South to secede from the union, it would have been the end of the Northern economy. The old "follow the money" bit was totally ignored in the unprecedented rush to declare war on the Confederate flag. Two weeks before Roof murdered 9 people in cold blood, the confederate flag was not an issue that would prove to be yet another nail in the 2016 election cycle, but it is now. Roof was an insane murderer, ........ so naturally ............the gun he used, and the flag he owned are to blame. The attack on the Confederate flag has been HUGELY successful, ....... for now. The 2016 Democratic nominee will have a Republican House, and in all likelihood a Republican Senate to look forward to, as he/she campaigns thru the South, trying not to take a side ............ but hey, Democrats don't need Southern voters anyway right ? The Republicans were going to lose after Bush, everyone understood that, Don't take for granted that the Presidency will be Blue for another four years.

Sometimes plans work too well, the Confederate flag is at the forefront of social media hatred, but make no mistake, .... there is going to be a wave of people voicing their opinion at the voting booths next year. The "Confederate Flag revolution" is unstoppable, and is daring anyone to come out and say anything remotely different, ...... do so and be labeled a racist,........ regardless what they have to say.

No I'm not panicking, and I did not write this for "concern", I'll be fine. I'm really not worried about the 2016 election one way or the other for myself, I never have and I never will bet all my chips on the ruling party of the moment. Just something to keep in mind when a baloney sandwich is able to win the Presidency in 2016, simply by not being attached to anything.

elections matter, remember ? Republican House, Senate, President AND likely TWO supreme court openings ... THAT is what is at stake. Maybe hold off screwing the American worker again with another shitty trade deal, pissing off a third of the nation by calling them stupid racists, lying about the ACA deductible costs, soft boiling the re-building of another Iraq war, getting a knife in the back from a failed Iranian nuclear "negotiation", pretending the unemployment is "actually" 5%, ...... and best of all, nominate Hillary who has a lifetime of built in controversy or Bernie who will have to explain Socialism ............ right before the election ?

Not to worry though.

here is a question regarding my "white privilege",

White shaming seems to be the hot topic recently, so I ask this.

Yes I am white, ...no I did ask for, nor push someone out of the way to jump in the "white line". Even though I've made my life what I wanted, worked for what I have, and enjoy my life. Why am I supposed to feel guilty ?

What exactly am I supposed to do to pay the penance I apparently need to pay, for being born and living my life. I'm not racist, I don't hold anything against anybody,....... unless they are an asshole. There are no racial guidelines, polls nor % links to support what percentage of the populations races take up the largest % of "ass holiness", so .........

So this morning as I get ready to start my week-end, what exactly is my debt that I am supposed to pay today, for the crime of being white.

I was created by and raised by my mom and dad, they loved me, they encouraged me and helped me become the man I am. It's my parents fault I'm white............ I'm an innocent victim. White shaming me over something that I had no control over is weak sauce. What exactly am I supposed to do about it now ? I'm curious what the other end of the "white privilege" shame-fest really is ?

Let me flip the coin over and ask the reverse question,....... if it's allowed.

I'm framing this question in the SAME manner as was posed to DU , only reversing the race question.

Why should white people as a group love black people as a group ? should they ?

the VAST majority of white people are not racist, bigoted or oppress black people as a function of our heritage. Yet, as a collective race, .......white people as a group .........are collectively accused of being racist, privileged and oppressive to black people.

I am not be a racist, .....bigoted nor white privileged,..... so in the eyes of DU, I simply "don't get it".

So, should white people love black people as a group ? If not, why not. If so, why so ?

regarding the jury system:

i just served on a jury. I think it makes a lot more sense to NOT show the name of the person with the post to be "juried".

I found the idea of hiding the post in question to be ridiculous, and seemed like it had to have been personal not really a reason to be "juried"

but- showing the name of the person who wrote the post being judged, gives people with personal axes to grind an opportunity to put that personal vendetta in play. Doesn't it make more sense to have the potentially offensive post anonymously judged for it's content and not for WHO wrote it ?

i think anonymously is fair, it would keep people from a "revenge hide", and it also would remove the ability to protect offensive speech just because of on online friendship.

ISIS, and the theroy that all they need are jobs.

All ISIS members need are jobs. I've read a few posts, a story or two, even heard this boloney on the "news" once or twice.

So I'm going to try and understand where exactly these ideas are coming from, is there anyone who actually believes that if ISIS radicals had jobs, the terrorism would stop?

What "job" is someone who straps a bomb to another person and sends them out to blow themselves up qualified for ? I've seen the "unemployment is the cause" comment once or twice, but never have I seen anyone actually try and explain. Bear in mind we in the US are touting our *snicker snicker 5.8% unemployment rate, but still have a spiraling violence problem.

Second question, do you actually believe our unemployment rate is 5.8% ?
