Wayne County GOP canvasser William Hartmann dies following battle with COVID-19

William Hartmann, the Republican member of the Wayne County Board of Canvassers who made national headlines for initially refusing to certify the results of the 2020 presidential election, died Tuesday following a battle with COVID-19.

Douglas Reimel, Hartmann’s friend, shared the news on Facebook, and others who knew Hartmann offered their condolences online. Hartmann was 63.

Hartmann's fight with COVID-19 landed him in the ICU, where he was on a ventilator, according to a Facebook post from Elizabeth Hartmann, his sister. He was hospitalized at Wyandotte Hospital, according to Reimel. A spokesperson for the hospital did not immediately respond to a request for details.

Hartmann's death comes amid the latest surge in COVID-19 in Michigan that has filled hospital beds across the state. Michigan remains the nation's worst COVID-19 hot spot, leading the country in cases in recent weeks, according to the CDC.

It is unclear whether Hartmann was vaccinated. His Facebook page includes posts and memes downplaying the severity of the coronavirus, comparing vaccine passports to Nazi Germany and blasting Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s efforts to mitigate the spread of the virus.

In one Facebook post, Hartmann appeared to question the efficacy of the vaccine. "If the ouchie is so great, why do they have to offer bribes?" he wrote. In others, he referred to COVID-19 as the "wuflu" and suggested that Democrats were using the pandemic "to scare the public."

Black Friday sales on track for record high

I'm not buying anything myself - I usually give $$$ because I'm not sure what my family members like but apparently many others are.

Americans eager to nab holiday discounts lined up at stores on Black Friday, putting what in recent years has been the busiest shopping day of the year on track for record sales.

Black Friday sales in stores and online were up 12% by mid-morning, according to Mastercard SpendingPulse, which tracks spending broadly across cards and cash. By noon Eastern time, shoppers had spent a total of $5.8 billion — up 7% compared to the same period last year, data from the software company Salesforce shows.

"Retail spending has been on the rise throughout the day," Steve Sadove, senior advisor for Mastercard and former CEO or department store chain Saks, said in a report. "As of 3 p.m. today, Mastercard SpendingPulse reports that total retail sales are up nearly 30% compared to last year, with apparel and department store sales leading the way."

Consumers, who spent $5.1 billion on Thanksgiving Day, are expected to shell out between $8.8 billion and $9.6 billion on Friday, according to Adobe Digital Insights. The market research firm forecasts that online sales in November and December will hit a record $207 billion, which would mark a 10% increase over last year.

QAnon's 'Queen of Canada' Calls for Followers to 'Kill' People Vaccinating Children

QAnon influencer Romana Didulo told her 70,000 followers that "duck-hunting season is open” and by ducks she means healthcare workers, politicians, and journalists.

Earlier this week, the so-called QAnon Queen of Canada opened up “duck-hunting” season in the Great White North.

:snip:

In a post on Sunday to her over 70,000 followers on Telegram, Didulo issued an order to the soldiers of her “Kingdom of Canada’s Military.” She demanded the mass arrests of those they consider opposition, and wanted her soldiers to take control of newspapers and seize the border.

“Shoot to kill anyone who tries to inject Children under the age of 19 years old with Coronavirus19 vaccines/ bioweapons or any other Vaccines,” she wrote. “This order is effective immediately.”

A follow-up post on Tuesday changed the wording from “shoot to kill” to “arrest.”

:snip:

Didulo implies that her duck hunters are secretive military veterans she’s bringing in from the U.S. But on Telegram (a chat app known for their lax rules), over 6,000 of her online supporters have signed up to be a part of “Canada Military 2.0”—a separate, but inactive, Telegram page where followers pledge to be part of Didulo’s fighting force. “I have offered my life for humanity and joined our Canadian duck hunters,” one of her followers wrote.

Didulo has made separate pages where she says she’s vetting members of her Canadian and U.S. duck-hunting teams to help with her mission, which currently have just over 100 members, including the man who posted the images of the firearms. Inside one of the duck hunters shared information about a specific vaccine popup in an Ontario mall “specifically targeting young children.”

“It’s time to react now,” replied one person. “Hurry up and wait is no longer the thing to say.”

San Francisco D.A. charges nine with felonies in $1-million theft wave of luxury stores

San Francisco Dist. Atty. Chesa Boudin said Tuesday that he has charged nine people with felonies in a series of shoplifting incidents that included a mass smash-and-grab at Union Square luxury stores.

At least 40 thieves allegedly broke into a Louis Vuitton store on Friday, grabbing whatever they could before loading it into a series of cars parked curbside out front. The shoplifting caravan cut a swath through San Francisco’s high-end boutiques, creating a scene of chaos while stealing more than $1 million in merchandise.

Boudin said two of the nine people were charged for possession of firearms during the Friday incident. He said the nine face charges of grand theft, commercial burglary and possession of stolen goods at the felony level.

“These are not petty thefts. These are not misdemeanor conduct. This is felony conduct,” Boudin said. “We are charging felonies today.”

:snip:

San Francisco Assistant Police Chief Mike Redmond, appearing with Boudin, announced that extra uniformed officers will be deployed to shopping areas and a traffic plan put in place “to keep cars out of the area if we see things ramp up downtown.”

Redmond said he expects many more arrests in the Union Square shoplifting incidents and indicated that the series of mob rip-offs around the Bay Area that began in San Francisco may be connected.

“We believe it is a lot of the same groups involved,” he said.

Judge scolds FL man who took Pelosi lectern in Capitol riot. 'Why shouldn't I lock you up?'

The Brandenton Herald reports:

The Parrish man who posed for photos after stealing Nancy Pelosi’s lectern during the Jan. 6 Capitol riot has pleaded guilty to illegally entering the Capitol that day.

Adam Johnson, 36, was quickly identified after photos of him smiling and waving while carrying the lectern went viral, and other Manatee County residents recognized him and submitted tips to the FBI. Johnson could face up to one year in prison, a $100,000 fine, a year of supervised release and could be forced to pay whatever restitution is left to be paid after payments from others convicted in the case.

Senior U.S. District Judge Reggie B. Walton will sentence Johnson at 9:30 a.m. Feb. 25. Walton called Johnson weak-minded enough to believe Trump’s lie and do what he did before asking him, “So why shouldn’t I lock you up sir? Why should I think that you won’t do this again?”

Johnson may not get any jail time. Note that he attended his hearing in a t-shirt, shorts, and flip-flops while wearing an ankle monitor.
