Trump unlikely to pay a legal or financial price despite allegations of tax dodging

President Donald Trump is unlikely to pay a legal or financial price even if new allegations of extensive tax dodging by him and his family are borne out.

Multiple factors could offer Trump a shield, not the least of which is time: The questionable practices outlined in a New York Times report happened so long ago that a case would be difficult to make today, especially given statutes of limitations.

“It’s certainly possible, although the age of these transactions raises some questions about whether any of it will be collectible,” said Beth Shapiro Kaufman, a former Treasury Department tax official who is now president of the law firm Caplin & Drysdale.

Nonetheless, New York state officials are probing the tax practices of Trump and his family following the report, published Tuesday. The Department of Taxation and Finance, which is responsible for investigating tax fraud, can collect fines and penalties and also refer criminal actions to the attorney general's office.

Mother Pence to supports GOP candidate who said women having jobs wasn't part of "God's design"

https://www.rawstory.com/2018/10/karen-pence-rally-behind-gop-candidate-complained-women-jobs-wasnt-part-gods-design/

Local news station WFAE reports that Pence on Friday will join a campaign rally for Mark Harris, a former pastor who has been sharply critical of women who decide to take jobs instead of staying home and supporting their husbands.

In a 2013 sermon, for example, Harris discussed “God’s plan for biblical womanhood” and ranted against “a culture and… an environment that have made it extremely difficult for any woman… to live out and fulfill God’s design.”

Additionally, Harris once lamented that modern women no longer have “basic” skills such as “how to prepare a meal, how to sew on a button, how to keep a home, how to respond to a husband.”

Harris has also talked in the past about his belief that wives should “submit” to their husbands, but he has insisted that doesn’t mean that women are technically inferior to men.

“[Jesus] didn’t consider it wrong to submit himself to the Father,” Harris explained to Roll Call earlier this year.

Do these statements by @realDonaldTrump make you angry?

If so, help flip the House and Senate. Call voters, write postcards, make donations and knock on doors. Vote this November and get your family and friends to vote.

The cavalry is coming, and it is you.

Trump, who called Christine Blasey "very credible" in the wake of her Senate testimony, today says the allegations were a "hoax." He provides no evidence or proof of this shocking claim that runs counter to several of Ford's statements, supported by her husband and friends.

College Republicans considering a lawsuit against bar for refusing to host "Beers 4 Brett" party

Local news station KIRO 7 reports that Seattle bar Shultzy’s Bar and Grill told the College Republicans over the weekend that it would not host their planned “Beers 4 Brett” party on the grounds that it is a sports bar that does not endorse any particular political viewpoint.

A group of 15 of the College Republicans went to the bar anyway to have drinks and were permitted to stay without incident.

Despite this, the chapter is still considering a lawsuit against Shultzy’s for not wanting to serve as the official host of their celebration.

“It’s very disheartening just to see something like this would get shut down, or be asked to shut down for not any good reason,” complained University of Washington College Republicans president Chevy Swanson.

However, constitutional law expert Jeffery Needle tells KIRO 7 that, so long as Shultzy’s has a blanket policy of refusing to officially host all political events, it’s very likely in the clear.

First Lady Melania Trump will not attend Brett Kavanaugh’s swearing-in ceremony for the U.S. Supreme Court because she has a “longstanding prior commitment.”

In a statement released on Monday, a spokesperson for the first lady said that the “last minute” nature of the ceremony made it impossible for her to attend.

“She has a longstanding prior commitment she was unable to change at the last minute,” the spokesperson said, according to NBC News.

Trump: "A lot of Democrats are going to vote Republican" because Kavanaugh is on the Supreme Court

“They are thinking about impeaching a brilliant jurist,” Trump said. “A man that did nothing wrong, a man that was caught up in a hoax that was set up by the Democrats.”

“The American public has seen this charade, has seen this dishonesty by the Democrats,” Trump added. “And when you mention impeach a justice of the United States Supreme Court… who did nothing wrong, and there was no corroboration of any kind.”

“It was all made up, it was fabricated,” the president continued. “And I think it’s really going to show you something come November 6.”

Trump predicted that “a lot of Democrats are going to vote Republican” because Kavanaugh is on the Supreme Court.

Manchin: "It just wasn't in my heart and soul to do that"

The woman who testified to the Senate about Kavanaugh, Christine Blasey Ford, accused him of sexual assault but not rape when they were high school students more than 30 years ago. Two other women stepped forward late in the confirmation process to accuse the appeals court judge of sexual misconduct in high school or college. Their stories resonated with women who had suffered sexual trauma and fueled opposition to Kavanaugh’s confirmation.

“They weren’t going to be satisfied, or their healing process, until we convicted this person,” Manchin told The Associated Press. “I couldn’t do it. You talk about two wrongs trying to make a right. It just wasn’t in my heart and soul to do that.”

Manchin insisted over and over that his vote wasn’t based on politics.

There is little doubt, however, that his vote was in line with the wishes of many West Virginia voters, who gave Trump a victory in 2016 by 42 percentage points. There simply aren’t enough Democrats in the state to re-elect Manchin. He needs a significant chunk of Trump’s base to win.
