THOUGHTS & PRAYERS! Sale of Trump's D.C. hotel on hold as commercial real estate industry reels

Sale of Trump’s D.C. hotel on hold as commercial real estate industry reels

Commercial real estate owners including the president likely to see tax benefits from stimulus package as sales stagnate

The commercial real estate industry has ground nearly to a halt due to coronavirus shutdowns, forcing buyers and sellers of major properties, including President Trump’s company, to put their plans on hold.

Trump’s firm, which he still owns, has had to press pause on the proposed sale of its D.C. hotel lease due to the market’s collapse as potential buyers wait for banks and investors to return normal operations.

The company’s sales representative, Jeffrey Davis of JLL, confirmed to The Washington Post that the proposed sale of Trump’s lease to the federally owned Old Post Office Pavilion has been set aside as the industry recovers.

“We have toured only the most discerning buyers and are proud to be representing such an iconic asset,” he said. "Trump International Hotel, Washington D.C. is one of the finest hotels anywhere in the world and we look forward to working with the Trump Organization on finding the right fit once the industry is back up and running.”

One time, President Obama told me and a few others that he was the president of all Americans—even those who hated or opposed him. And he seemed to believe that.

Ted Lieu offers Trump an alternative to all-caps tweeting about ventilators.

Ted Lieu
@tedlieu

US House candidate, CA-33

Dear @realDonaldTrump: Glad you reversed yourself & now realize the US is short on ventilators.

Also, you can do more than just tweet in all caps about GM Lordstown & Ford. You can ensure this happens by activating the Defense Production Act. Lives are at stake.

Thoughts and prayers time...members of McConnell's Republican caucus are "angered."

According to a report from the LA Times, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) was taken out of the loop during round-the-clock negotiations to cobble together a desperately needed multi-trillion dollar stimulus bill designed to save the U.S. economy from collapsing due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

That, in turn, angered members of his Republican caucus after he promised them they would have more say in a later version.

According to the Times, “With his mastery of rules and tactics and control over his caucus, McConnell has developed a reputation as one of the Senate’s most powerful majority leaders. But in the talks to shape the massive bailout bill, he was effectively sidelined for much of the final days as Treasury Secretary Steven T. Mnuchin and Democratic leader Charles E. Schumer of New York negotiated.”
.
The report goes on to note that it was McConnell who opened the door to the White House working directly — in the beginning — with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) only to see himself sidelined by Mnuchin who took a larger role than usual because the preside t wanted a quick turnaround due to his growing panic as the pandemic crisis rocked the economy.
