Republican House Intel Chair Devin Nunes Just May Have Gotten Trump Impeached

Source: PoliticusUSA, by Sarah Jones

House Intelligence Chairman Devin Nunes tried to exonerate President Donald Trump’s unfounded wiretapping accusations against President Obama, but in the process he ended up revealing that the alleged wiretap was legal and done under a FISA warrant, which means the people being surveilled are either foreign powers/agents and or may be involved in the commission of a crime.

So that’s not exactly a win for Nunes or Trump.

*****

Nunes said it appears that the subjects were under a FISA warrant during his White House presser, but that he wasn’t concerned that bringing this claim forward would implicate the President or any of his team given that the only way to get a FISA warrant is if the target is a foreign power, agent or may be committing a crime. “No, I think — what this is- this is normal intelligence reporting.”

And yet, Nunes said it was legally collected. Which means one of the above, and none of them are good. Without offering any proof or any claim that this was done illegally, Nunes took refuge in his idea that what he found would bother the American people. Translation: It bothers Nunes, and Trump.

*****

One might wonder how Nunes can veer like a drunken sailor from chastising the intelligence community for leaks of incidental collection to leaking alleged incidental collection himself, but then that would require holding Republicans to a consistent standard.

"You might very well think that; I couldn't possibly comment."

No official word on whether Trump played a round of golf at his West Palm Beach club between meetings earlier today, but photos posted on social media showed him wearing a golf glove and a short sleeve shirt and slacks.

And schmoozing with the guests! All vetted by security, of course. This is the Southern White House, after all.

Trump wants to build 30-foot-high wall at Mexican border

Sorry - it just never stops coming, does it?

Source: WaPo, by Alicia A,. Caldwell

The Trump administration wants to build a 30-foot-high border wall that looks good from the north side and is difficult to climb or cut through, according to a pair of contract notices posted to a government website further detailing President Donald Trump’s promise to build a “big, beautiful wall” at the Mexican border.

The notices were made public late Friday by Customs and Border Protection, the Homeland Security Department agency that will oversee the project and eventually patrol and maintain the wall. The proposals are due to the government by March 29.

One of the CBP contract requests calls for a solid concrete wall, while the other asks for proposals for a see-through structure. Both require the wall to sunk at least six feet into the ground and include 25- and 50-foot automated gates for pedestrians and vehicles. The proposed wall must also be built in a such a way that it would take at least an hour to cut through it with a “sledgehammer, car jack, pick axe, chisel, battery operated impact tools, battery operated cutting tools, Oxy/acetylene torch or other similar hand-held tools.”

*****

Trump has bragged in recent days that the wall is ahead of schedule, though it’s unclear from the latest contract notices if any firms have submitted wall proposals or if any such submissions have been rejected.

Trump budget derails Amtrak in Alabama, but advocates urge calm

We don't need no stinkin' trains!

Source: al.com, by John Sharp

Under President Donald Trump's budget blueprint called "America First," 23 of 46 states that Amtrak serves - including Alabama - would be cut off from the company's long-distance routes.

Amtrak's Northeast Corridor, which is the company's most profitable, would likely be expanded. But Alabama would get left behind.

"It's very strange that an administration that is supposed to be the infrastructure administration, with great commitments to infrastructure and transportation in particular, starts out by decreasing transportation funding by 13 percent," said John Robert Smith, a former mayor of Meridian, Miss., and the current chairman of the board for Transportation for American - a non-profit alliance that pushes for grassroots support of innovative transportation policy in the U.S.

Along the Gulf Coast, the Southern Rail Commission - the leading advocate for rail service in the Deep South - is pressing ahead in efforts to restart passenger rail from New Orleans to Orlando along a CSX freight line that once served Amtrak's Sunset Limited route. The Gulf Coast line has been without passenger rail service since Hurricane Katrina shattered the region in 2005.
