Once more unto the breach, dear friends.
The U.S. military is moving reinforcements to the Baltic states and Poland to shore up NATO’s eastern flank as Ukraine girds for a massive Russian attack.
Up to 190,000 Russian troops have surrounded Ukraine, including Russian forces that have deployed to Belarus, nominally for military exercises. A contingent of Russian troops invaded eastern Ukraine overnight after Russian President Vladimir Putin recognized the independence of two breakaway provinces: Donetsk and Luhansk.
“Today, in response to Russia’s admission that it will not withdraw its forces from Belarus, I have authorized additional movement of U.S. forces and equipment already stationed in Europe, to strengthen our Baltic allies: Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania.”
Biden stressed that the deployment of U.S. forces to the Baltic states and Poland is “a defensive move on our part” and the United States has “no intention of fighting Russia.”

Moscow orders Russian troops into Ukraine
Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday ordered his forces to deploy to two separatist areas of Ukraine as a “peacekeeping” measure following a weekslong effort to mass hundreds of thousands of soldiers along Ukraine’s borders.
According to The Washington Post, Russian troops are now moving into both the “Donetsk People’s Republic” and the “Luhansk People’s Republic” after Moscow recognized their independence. Despite the Kremlin’s insistence that its forces were on a “peacekeeping” mission, the troop movements into Ukraine’s borders come after weeks of speculation and concern over a pending invasion.
“Russia is invading Ukraine right now,” tweeted Michael McFaul, a former U.S. ambassador to Russia.

Why it matters: Attorney General Keith Racine's (D) office sued the committee in 2020 alleging that it misused over $1 million in payments to the Trump hotel in D.C. for event space during the president’s 2017 inauguration. That money went directly to the Trumps, the lawsuit claims.

Texas Guardsmen on border start unionizing to combat difficult conditions
In the wake of a Justice Department filing declaring that National Guard troops can form and join unions while serving on state active duty orders, a growing number of Texas troops assigned to the U.S.-Mexico border for Operation Lone Star have organized under an existing public sector union.
The first meeting of the Texas State Employees Union’s Military Caucus, which consists of troops on state active duty orders assigned to the border, is scheduled for next week, according to a soldier leading organizing efforts. The soldier requested anonymity due to fear of retaliation from Texas Military Department leadership ahead of the meeting.

Thought: Was Afghanistan withdrawal related to Russian invasion of Ukraine?
My thoughts:
Our withdrawal from Afghanistan seemed, to me, to be relatively rushed & sloppy. I truly expected better from our leaders. At the time I literally wondered if there was a reason why it was so rushed. Perhaps, did they know something that wasn't publicly known? A reason for the rush? Did our Intel community & Biden know that something big was impending & our best course of action was to just get out of Afghanistan ASAP (which they planned to do anyway) & regroup & prepare for something much bigger? I've been thinking about this the past few days as I've watched literal tonnage of US military equipment flowing toward Ukraine, while Russian military equipment fills bases just 50 miles from the Ukraine border that were empty a few months ago. And more.
In other words, did our Intel services (& Biden) have reliable Intel that Russia was about to invade Ukraine & that was the reason why they decided that the best & most appropriate thing to do was to pull our forces out of Afghanistan ASAP, regroup, & prepare for a MUCH bigger & MUCH more significant conflict with Russia?
Just my thoughts, please consider & discuss.

New Cyber Onslaught Could Give Away Putin's Next Big Move
Hackers are starting to wreak havoc all across Ukraine, just as officials warn that Russia might go in for the kill and invade Ukraine this week.
Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense and Armed Services websites were down Tuesday as the result of an apparent cyberattack, in what some fear could be just the latest Russian effort to cause confusion and disruption in Ukraine as President Vladimir Putin weighs invading Ukraine.
The banks, Privatbank and Oshadbank, are also under attack, Ukraine’s cybersecurity agency, the State Service for Special Communication and Information Protection warned Tuesday, with some users reporting trouble making payments with their banking apps, according to Reuters.
Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense has assessed that the attacks on government websites are likely DDoS attacks, in which an attacker hits a website with an overwhelming number of requests so that the website malfunctions. Work is being done to restore the sites, the government said.
It’s not clear if Russia is behind the cyberattacks at this time.
The apparent cyber incursions come just as U.S. officials and military analysts warn a Russian invasion into Ukraine could happen this week. That attack, officials have warned, could be coupled with a cyberattack in Ukraine to cause confusion, disruption, or as preparation for the battlefield.

Privat and Oschad are two biggest retail banks in Ukraine in terms of client base: they have about 20.5 million customers combined.
I think that the purpose of this attack may be to trigger bank runs, which would be really dangerous.
