Michael McCaul is the chair of the House Foreign Affairs Committee and is one of the most powerful Republicans on Capitol Hill. To him, abandoning Ukraine to the Russians is completely foolish and counterproductive to American interests. And to that end, he lays the blame squarely on the Russians and their success at promoting Kremlin propaganda.
And when it's parroted almost verbatim by Trump and Michael Johnson, it just becomes more insidious.

Fresh from wriggling out of federal securities fraud charges with a mere slap on the wrist, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton seems bent on a new round of MAGA mischief. As The Daily Beast reported, Paxton is claiming that part of his investigation into manufacturing defects at Boeing supplier Spirit AeroSystems Holdings, Inc. involves a demand for documents related to the company's “diversity, equity and inclusion commitments” and “whether those commitments are unlawful or are compromising the company's manufacturing processes.”
Translation: Paxton seeks to blame affirmative action, i.e. too much catering to minorities, for safety problems. The Daily Beast noted that “Some right-wing figures have sought to link DEI efforts with various safety incidents in the U.S. aviation industry.” They've also tried to blame “DEI” for the Francis Scott Key Bridge tragedy.
In other words, “DEI” is now code for “Black” and/or "minorities" in MAGA world.

Ex-President Donald Trump reacted Tuesday to a new order demanding that he stop attacking family members of people involved in his hush money trial — by unleashing another furious attack on the judge who issued it.
“I was just informed that another corrupt New York Judge, Juan Merchan, GAGGED me so that I can not talk about the corruption and conflicts taking place in his courtroom with respect to a case that everyone, including the D.A., felt should never have been brought,” he wrote on Truth Social.
A gag order in the trial, set to start April 15 and involving hush money payments allegedly made to an adult movie actress to keep quiet about an affair, has been in place for several days and bans Trump from talking about jurors, witnesses and court staff.

On a certain level, it makes perfect sense to appoint the useless, performative Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene to a useless, performative impeachment trial. But ultimately, it shows just how little regard Speaker Johnson has for the branch of Congress he supposedly leads.
For one thing, Greene's appointment comes a week after she threatened to remove Johnson. The Independent, which reported on her appointment, noted that no Republicans have signed on to her motion to vacate, i.e. remove Johnson. If anything, her move angered her fellow Republicans to the point that they attacked it on conservative media.
MTG's appointment may quell her desire to oust Johnson but it will probably do nothing to quell the intra-party animosity among the House Republicans. As The Independent noted, the motion to impeach Department of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas failed the first time, then passed the second time by one vote, with three Republicans voting with Democrats against it.

In an interview with Charlie Kirk, Eastman was defiant about being disbarred for repeating false information while trying to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election.
"Well, the judge, the judge basically said he should be disbarred because he's showed no remorse," he told Kirk. "Well, uh, I don't show remorse and I don't bend my knee too when the government is making false claims that the election was perfect and there's nothing to see here."
"There was a lot to see here and the more people look at it, the more devastatingly bad it looks," he claimed. "And so that's why we're fighting."

Larry Fink, the billionaire CEO of the world's largest asset management firm, wrote in his annual letter to investors on Tuesday that it is "a bit crazy" that 65 is viewed as a sensible retirement age in the United States, drawing swift backlash from Social Security defenders and policy analysts.
Dean Baker, senior economist at the Center for Economic and Policy Research, replied that the CEO of BlackRock apparently doesn't know the U.S. already raised the full retirement age for Social Security to 67 under a law passed during the Reagan administration—a change that inflicted benefit cuts across the board.
"I love how rich people are treated as sources of great wisdom when they obviously don't know their ass from their elbow," Baker wrote on social media.

Ronna McDaniel likely got NBC gig after securing network a presidential debate: report

Anger against NBC over its hiring of former Republican National Committee chair Ronna McDaniel, much of it coming from the network's top personalities, is continuing to permeate Monday as more people at the network speak out over her hiring.
People within the network are reportedly blowing up text threads and Slack channels over the hiring after a contentious segment on Meet the Press with host Chuck Todd, who ranted on air about McDaniel, saying, “There’s a reason why there’s a lot of journalists at NBC News uncomfortable with this,” and blaming the RNC's alleged habits of “gaslighting” and “character assassination."
According to a report from Politico, network producers and Todd's fellow NBC anchor Kristen Welker knew beforehand that he was going to go on a rant about McDaniel but did not intervene.
