Advocacy Groups Accuse Trump Camp Of Violating Law In Russian Meeting

Source: Talking Points Memo

Three advocacy groups on Thursday accused Donald Trump’s presidential campaign — in addition to everyone known to be in attendance at a meeting with a Russian lawyer who had promised dirt on Hillary Clinton in June 2016 — of violating election law.

Democracy 21, Common Cause and the Campaign Legal Center, and the vice president and policy director at the latter two groups, respectively, filed a complaint with the Federal Election Commission formally accusing Donald J. Trump for President, Inc., Donald Trump Jr., Paul Manafort and Jared Kushner of soliciting a contribution from a foreign national by attending the meeting with Russian lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya in June 2016. PBS Newshour first reported the complaint.

“Under federal law, providing anything of value, including the fruits of paid research, hacking, or similar investigatory activity to a campaign is an in-kind ‘contribution,’” the complaint noted, “and expressing approval and requesting a meeting to receive that in-kind contribution is a ‘solicitation.’

Federal law prohibits such contributions, or solicitation thereof, from foreign nationals.

Pimp Of The Nation: Kid Rock Unveils Website Claiming Hes Running For Senate

Kid Rock, the Detroit rapper of “bawitdaba da bang a dang” fame and outspoken supporter of President Donald Trump, announced on Wednesday that he may be running for a seat in the U.S. Senate in 2018 ― and no one can tell if they should believe him.

The famous rocker ― who also goes by “Detroit cowboy,” “American badass” or simply “the Kid” ― hinted at a bid for a Senate seat in Michigan by tweeting to his fans that the website KidRockforSenate.com is real.

“Stay tuned, I will have a major announcement in the near future,” he said after sharing a link to his site, which includes a picture of himself sitting in an office under a generic campaign logo for 2018 and above large text that asks, “ARE YOU SCARED?”

Other campaign messages on his website include “I’ll rock the party,” “Get in the Senate and try to help someone” and “Pimp of the nation.”

Texas slow, tortuous fight to kill a mentally ill man

Scott Panetti is very seriously mentally ill. He once buried his furniture in his backyard in the belief that this would purge the devil, who Panetti believed to have possessed his home. He was institutionalized about a dozen times, often involuntarily, for suicidal and homicidal behavior. Eventually, Panetti’s illness overcame him, and he murdered his estranged wife’s parents.

At Panetti’s trial, he was inexplicably allowed to represent himself. With his life on the line, Panetii wore a purple bandana around his neck, a cowboy hat and suspenders. He tried to call the Pope, Jesus Christ, and John F. Kennedy to the witness stand. And he sometimes shifted into an alternate personality named “Sgt. Ranahan Ironhorse.”

Holding the U.S. Womens Open at a Trump property puts golfers in an impossible position A spineless

Honestly, there is no way to depoliticize an event held at a golf course owned by the family of the current President of the United States.
But that’s not stopping the players and officials at this week’s U.S. Women’s Open, which is being held at Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, New Jersey, from trying their hardest.

“I’m not into politics at all. I’m really just all golf. That’s all I focus on and I’m just going to focus on my play this week,” 22-year-old Lexi Thompson, currently the №3 women’s golfer in the world, told reporters at the introductory press conference on Tuesday when asked about the U.S. Golf Association’s (USGA) decision to keep the marquee women’s golf tournament of the season at Trump National.

Conway Uses Props To Show She Doesnt Think Trump Colluded With Russia

Source: Talking Points Memo

To help viewers understand her opinion on news that Donald Trump Jr. held a meeting Kremlin-linked lawyer to get dirt on his father’s opponent, White House counselor Kellyanne Conway used cue cards during a Fox News interview.

Appearing on “Hannity” Wednesday night, Conway claimed the American people are pushing back against the mainstream media, saying ratings are low — “Not yours, Sean, congratulations on your incredible ratings,” she clarified — and questioned why the press is covering Trump Jr.’s meeting with a Russian lawyer instead of the President’s meeting with the Russian president.

“Do you realize the President of the United States sat with the president of Russia less than a week ago for two hours and 15 minutes, and yet we are talking about this? Do you realize we’ve got people in the media now, between their lower third chyrons and what comes out of their mouths, they talk more about Russia more than America? Thank you for talking about America so often,” she said to host Sean Hannity

The emerging alliance between Putin and Trumps God squad

As evidence continues to emerge of Russia’s alleged attempts at the direction of Vladimir Putin to disrupt the 2016 election through nefarious means, President Donald Trump has endured fiery criticism from all sides regarding his ties to the authoritarian leader. In addition to an avalanche of progressive detractors, Republican senators such as Lindsay Graham (R-SC) have expressed unease about the connection, and Pope Francis declared the budding alliance between the U.S. and Russia “dangerous.”

But as Trump prepared for his first face-to-face meeting as president with Putin this past weekend, his attempt to thaw relations with Moscow was blessed by a seemingly unusual source: Rev. Franklin Graham, a prominent member of the Religious Right and the son of evangelist Billy Graham. Days before the meeting, the younger Graham — a longtime Trump supporter who led a prayer at the president’s inauguration — published a Facebook post voicing optimism about a potential Trump-Putin partnership.

“The media and enemies of President Trump have tried to drive a wedge between Russia and the United States,” Graham, who is known for spouting Islamophobic and anti-LGBTQ rhetoric, wrote. “Our country needs Russia as an ally in the fight against Islamic terrorism. Join me in praying for President Trump and President Vladimir Putin as they have this very strategic meeting.”

Trumps EPA wants to give a massive mining project in Alaska another chance Experts fear the copper

Source: Think Progress

The volume of toxic waste produced from the smallest mine proposed at the Pebble Mine project in the Bristol Bay watershed of Alaska would be enough to fill a professional football stadium more than 880 times. The toxic waste produced by the largest of the proposed mines at the site would do so more than 3,900 times.

But the Environmental Protection Agency, under the leadership of industry-friendly Scott Pruitt, is throwing caution to the wind as it chooses to overlook the enormous environmental hazards posed by the project.

The EPA on Tuesday proposed to cancel an Obama-era determination that, if finalized, would have blocked development at the Pebble gold and copper prospect in southwest Alaska.

Trump wanted China to deal with North Korea  its not going well

Source: Think Progress

President Donald Trump’s plan to have China deal with North Korea’s nuclear program so the United States won’t have to isn’t going very well.
On Tuesday, a Chinese foreign ministry spokesman said as much.

“Recently, certain people, talking about the Korean peninsula nuclear issue, have been exaggerating and giving prominence to the so-called ‘China responsibility theory,’” said Geng Shuang, a foreign ministry spokesman, alluding to the United States. “I think this either shows lack of a full, correct knowledge of the issue, or there are ulterior motives for it, trying to shift responsibility.”

Members of both parties are talking about a post-Trumpcare health care approach

Source: Think Progress

With the prospects for Trumpcare in the Senate looking grim, lawmakers from both sides of the aisle have started to publicly talk about tweaking Obamacare rather than repealing it outright.

Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) has already threatened to work with Democrats to stabilize the Affordable Care Act (ACA) if the bill does not pass. Last week, he said during a public event in his home state of Kentucky that “some kind of action with regard to the private health insurance market must occur” if Senate Republicans fail to pass their health plan. This Wednesday, Vox broke the news that House Democrats will introduce their own plan to address market stabilization this week.

House Republican pushes cuts for food stamps to pay for Trumps border wall

Source: Think Progress

During a CNN interview Wednesday morning, Rep. Steve King (R-IA) said he’d like to slash food assistance for low-income Americans and Planned Parenthood funding to free up money for President Trump’s border wall.

King was responding to a question from CNN’s Alisyn Camerota about whether he’s “comfortable with providing $1.6 billion of taxpayer money — not from Mexico — to bill that wall?” On Tuesday, House Republicans signaled they may force a government shutdown unless Democrats agree to spend that amount on a physical border wall in the 2018 budget.

“Absolutely yes — and more,” King said. “And I’d throw another $5 billion on the pile, and I would find half of a billion of dollars of that right out of Planned Parenthood’s budget. And the rest of it could come out of food stamps and the entitlements that are being spread out for people who have not worked in three generations.”

An incredulous Camerota pushed back.
