BUENOS AIRES — President Donald Trump canceled a scheduled Saturday afternoon press conference on the sidelines of the G-20 summit here, asserting that such an event would be disrespectful after George H.W. Bush’s death.
"I was very much looking forward to having a press conference just prior to leaving Argentina because we have had such great success in our dealing with various countries and their leaders at the G20....,” Trump wrote on Twitter, adding in a second tweet, “....However, out of respect for the Bush Family and former President George H.W. Bush we will wait until after the funeral to have a press conference.”
Bush’s death, which was announced by his office on Friday night, is certain to reverberate throughout the G-20 conference of world leaders. Trump usually delights in holding court with the press, and aides said he was eager to tout his performance during the summit.
Trump publicly mourned Bush’s death, releasing a statement in which he praised the former president‘s "sound judgement, common sense, and unflappable leadership.”

It’s an opportunity for people worldwide to unite in the fight against HIV, to show support for people living with HIV, and to commemorate those who have died from an AIDS-related illness. Founded in 1988, World AIDS Day was the first ever global health day.
WHY IS WORLD AIDS DAY IMPORTANT?
Over 101,000 people are living with HIV in the UK. Globally, there are an estimated 36.7 million people who have the virus. Despite the virus only being identified in 1984, more than 35 million people have died of HIV or AIDS, making it one of the most destructive pandemics in history.
Today, scientific advances have been made in HIV treatment, there are laws to protect people living with HIV and we understand so much more about the condition. Despite this, each year in the UK around 5,000 people are diagnosed with HIV, people do not know the facts about how to protect themselves and others, and stigma and discrimination remain a reality for many people living with the condition.
World AIDS Day is important because it reminds the public and government that HIV has not gone away – there is still a vital need to raise money, increase awareness, fight prejudice and improve education.

Ten years ago, a security guard at Los Alamos National Laboratory submitted a petition to the federal government seeking compensation and benefits for his fellow lab workers who were sick with cancer and believed that radiation at the lab was to blame.
Andrew Evaskovich’s petition took advantage of a process put in place by Congress in 2000 that allowed groups of workers to secure benefits if they could show that they worked at a nuclear facility, that they had a cancer linked to radiation and that lab managers failed to accurately keep track of their exposures over time.
Under the law, the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, a federal agency that makes recommendations on work-related injuries and illnesses, had six months to review Evaskovich’s petition and recommend whether it should be approved or denied.
A decade later, Evaskovich and his colleagues are still waiting for a final answer.

This is not the first time government officials have been accused of delaying action on petitions by nuclear workers. In 2006, members of Congress faulted the administration of President George W. Bush after internal memos suggested plans to deny petitions based on cost, rather than on scientific merit, in order to keep the overall expense of the benefits program down.
'Jamal Khashoggi Way': Washington city may rename Saudi embassy street
Officials want road going past embassy in Foggy Bottom to serve as ‘daily reminder to Saudi officials’ about journalist’s murder
Local officials in a Washington neighborhood have voted to rename a street outside Saudi Arabia’s embassy in honour of the slain Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi.
If approved by the city council, the advisory commission’s measure means a stretch of road going past the expansive embassy building in the upscale Foggy Bottom district would be ceremonially renamed Jamal Khashoggi Way.
Khashoggi, a US resident, was murdered in the Saudi consulate in Istanbul in October.
After initially denying the murder, Saudi Arabia has acknowledged Khashoggi was killed inside the consulate but blamed his death on a “rogue” operation.
Top officials from the administration of President Donald Trump have said they have seen no direct evidence linking the murder to Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, but the CIA reportedly has found a connection.

According to CNN, the idea to change the street’s name started about a month ago following an online petition.
“We suggest renaming the street address of the Saudi embassy into Jamal Khashoggi Way to be a daily reminder to Saudi officials” that such killings are “totally unacceptable and as an expression of Washington’s unstinting support for freedom of the press”, the petition states.
A similar action was taken outside the Russian embassy, where a street was this year renamed in honour of prominent Vladimir Putin critic Boris Nemtsov, who was assassinated in Moscow in 2015.
California judge condemns startup for giving secret Facebook papers to UK
Parliament seized confidential documents under scrutiny in Six4Three’s lawsuit against social network
A California judge sharply criticized the legal team of the app developer that turned over confidential Facebook documents to the British parliament, accusing the attorneys of behavior that “shocks the conscience” and ordering them to hand over their client’s laptops and other evidence.
In a suburban courtroom in Silicon Valley – far from the jurisdiction of Westminster – Judge V Raymond Swope attempted to deal with the legal fallout from an extraordinary maneuver by the UK parliament, which last week seized highly confidential internal Facebook documents from Ted Kramer, founder of Six4Three, a former startup.
How Kramer, who has been pursuing a protracted legal battle against Facebook, came to provide those documents to Damian Collins, chair of the parliamentary committee that has been investigating Facebook over fake news, was under dispute as Facebook and Six4Three’s attorneys squared off Friday afternoon.
“What has happened is unconscionable,” Swope said from the bench. “It shocks the conscience. And your conduct is not well taken by this court.”

Kramer said little at the hearing. His new attorney, hired Thursday, said he was working with an international firm to review British law and any ways they could attempt to retrieve the documents handed to parliament.
The original complaint alleged that Mark Zuckerberg created a “malicious and fraudulent scheme” to force rival firms out of business and exploit users’ personal data.
One key allegation is that Facebook allowed certain companies to maintain access to user data in exchange for increased spending on Facebook ads. The Wall Street Journal reported Wednesday that some other redacted papers appeared to support that allegation.
Six4Three lawyers have also raised questions about Facebook’s exploitation of user privacy, citing the Cambridge Analytica scandal.

A month later, Sears, once the world’s largest retailer and a part of America’s cultural fabric for more than 100 years, filed for bankruptcy – putting thousands of workers’ jobs at risk.
Patrick said: “I am a mother who has four biological children and one stepson, and my income is all we have. When you take away our only income, you leave us with nothing – and we don’t deserve nothing. Mentally and physically it drags on you. It’s like saying you’re not good enough. And we’re all good enough.”
Sheila Brewer worked at the same Kmart in Rockford for 17 years as a full-time employee. Four weeks into receiving severance pay, a bankruptcy court stopped the rest of the payments. In the meantime, Sears executives have petitioned to receive up to $25m in bonuses.

Republican Wins Alaska State House Race By 1 Vote After Recount

JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) — Republican Bart LeBon has won an Alaska state House race by one vote after a ballot recount, officials said.
Before Friday’s recount, LeBon and Democrat Kathryn Dodge were tied with 2,661 votes apiece.
Recount results showed LeBon with 2,663 votes while Dodge had 2,662 votes, after LeBon picked up two votes and Dodge picked up one, according to the Alaska Division of Elections.
A much talked about mystery ballot found weeks ago on a table in a voting precinct ended up playing no role in the race outcome. The ballot was tossed Friday after officials said it was determined to be a spoiled ballot from a voter who had made a mistake on it, told officials and then filled out a new ballot.
If LeBon’s win holds up, the GOP will control the House, Senate and governor’s office.
