BTRTN: Latest House Mid-terms Snapshot -- and How You Can Help Win Specific Races (Links)

Race-by-race ratings and links to volunteer opportunities:

"The chart below summarizes each of the 100 races in play. You will note that the GOP is the incumbent in a remarkable 84 of these races, which certainly underlines how much they have to lose. The Democrats have only to win a net of +23 to gain control of the House. You can also see our rating for each race.

We are often asked, “I want to help, but my district is solid Dem, so what can I do to help win races in other states?” We found a list of links to Democratic candidates who are seeking out-of-state volunteers to do phone banking and other remote efforts, and have merged that list with ours below. Those opportunities are not available in every race, but there are many who are eagerly requesting such help. We have highlighted in BLUE (in the BTRTN Rating column) the races that are both very close and there is an out-of-state volunteer link. Pick any race where you see a link, follow the link and get involved..."

BTRTN: Another Month Focused on Donald Trump - Oh Wait, That Was Actually Brett Kavanaugh

The Mini-Me strategy...
http://www.borntorunthenumbers.com/2018/10/btrtn-another-month-focused-on-donald.html

"Kavanaugh's testimony on September 27 had the Trump act down to a tee. There was the knuckles-bearing screeching assault on the Democrats and the Clintons. The complete and total denial of the allegations of sexual assault in the face of all-too-credible evidence. There was the unhingedness of it all, the angry, self-righteous mania, the loss of control, the utter lack of dignity, the monstrous ego, the reversing of questions back to the questioners, the smarminess, the contempt. These characteristics were alien to the prior 43 Presidents of the United States, except in very small (and often private) doses, and they were and are alien to the 113 justices who have served on the Supreme Court, who are typically more spectral presences than even Mueller..."

BTRTN: A Call to Action from Anita Hill

Anita Hill spoke at the Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing conference in Houston this very morning, on this historic day. And my daughter, a computer science professor, was there.

"Too often, members of groups that are underrepresented, marginalized, or silenced feel isolated, or they feel that their voices will not be heard if they speak, or that they will not be believed if they are heard, or that nothing will change even if they are believed. But we need these voices. We need to keep pushing back, even when change doesn't come right away. Judge Kavanaugh said during his opening remarks yesterday, “you may defeat me in the final vote, but you’ll never get me to quit. Never." Let’s turn those words back on him. We may be defeated in the final vote on Judge Kavanaugh’s confirmation, but we cannot ever quit.

The theme of this year’s Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing was “We Are Here.” We---the women at this conference---are here..."

BTRTN: Sorry, Trump's Approval Rating is Not Declining; But Kavanaugh's is Dropping Like a Stone

Trump is flat, flat, flat, Kavanaugh down, down, down
http://www.borntorunthenumbers.com/2018/09/sorry-trumps-approval-rating-is-not.html

"There was much fanfare two weeks ago when CNN announced a new poll it had just completed, which purported to show that Donald Trump’s approval rating was, at long last, declining. The cable channel was breathless in its reporting of the findings, headlined by a 6-percentage point drop from 42% in an August CNN poll to the 36% reported on September 11.

The cable network attributed Trump’s drop to the incredible string of recent disastrous headline-toppers, including the convictions of Paul Manafort and Michael Cohen, and the publicity surrounding The New York Times anonymous op-ed and excerpts from the soon-to-be-released Bob Woodward book, “Fear.”

The only problem is..."
