How white spirituality, religious or not, allows racism to grow

From the article:

I spent years in evangelical Christianity, and though I still consider myself a follower of Jesus, my faith is far more expansive and pluralistic than it once was. As a curious mystic, I have delved into other realms and other religions in search of that sneakiest of things called Truth, and on my journeying I have found something disturbing: White people love to use our spirituality to ignore the very real plight of the BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) community.

To be honest, if it wasn’t for my recent forays into the study of race and specifically whiteness, I probably wouldn’t have noticed this subtle gaslighting that both the Christian and the New Age worlds perform against our Black and brown siblings. It’s encased in the lexicon of religiosity, God, and the superiority of all things spiritual.

Ali Velshi To Trump: 'Mr. President, Why Don't You Tell Us The Truth About Your Health?'

From the article:

After Donald Trump’s similarly unstable walk down a ramp over the weekend following a commencement address at West Point, there isn’t anywhere near the same level of media coverage.
MSNBC’s Ali Velshi sought to change that on Monday night by calling out the president for attacking the health of his opponents while covering up his own.

“This president cannot have it both ways,” the MSNBC host said. “He cannot make questionable claims about the health of others, including his opponents, while revealing nothing about himself.”

Trump Is Recruiting People From High Covid States To Infect His Rally

From the article:

Tulsa public health officials are worried about the exact scenario that Trump and his campaign are creating. Trump isn’t requiring masks for attendees, or social distancing. The Trump campaign wants to cram tens of thousands of people into an arena close together during a pandemic, and they are advertising for their supporters in places where cases are spiking to come to the rally.

If I were possessed of a very dark sense of humor, I might welcome this because Darwinian selection would help the Democrats, but I would not wish this on anyone, even members of the Trump crime family.

Trump Is Sinking In The Heartland As Gold-Standard Poll Shows Him Tied With Biden In Iowa

From the article:

A new poll of Iowa released on Monday shows that Donald Trump is virtually tied with former Vice President Joe Biden in a state he won by nine points in 2016.
The gold-standard Des Moines Register Poll shows Trump and Biden neck-and-neck at 44 percent to 43 percent, respectively.

It is June, and we know that cheating is number 1 in the GOP playbook. But this and similar polls are heartening.

How soon before Trump flies the Confederate flag over the WHITE House?

Now that even NASCAR has "discovered" that the flag is divisive, how soon before Trump takes up the cause and flies the flag?

Republican Kevin McCarthy: "Nobody Should Be Judged Based on the Color of Their Uniform"

The GOP is fine with judging people based on their skin color.

The GOP is fine with judging people based on their sexual orientation.

The GOP is fine with judging people based on their being Muslim.

The GOP is fine with judging people based on their being from s***hole countries.

The GOP is fine with judging people based on their poor.

But the GOP is NOT fine with judging people based on the color of their uniform?

Is Kevin McCarthy truly that stupid, or does he feel GOP voters are that stupid?

Trump is following in the footsteps of Ronald Reagan.

in 1980, Reagan opened his campaign for President by appearing at a County Fair site in Philadelphia, Mississippi that was notorious for hosting KKK rallies. It was also the area where Civil Rights protesters Goodwin, Schwerner, and Chaney were killed. There was no good reason for Reagan to start his campaign in such a place, except to signal to the white racists who make up part of the GOP that he was one of them.

Reagan generally kept his racism low key, employing coded language, but he felt it was necessary to indirectly link his campaign with the KKK, and white supremacy, so he chose a KKK rallying site.

On the other hand, Trump has never concealed his racism. So his Juneteenth rally in Tulsa, Oklahoma is intended to juxtapose a rally of open and unapologetic white supremacists with the Juneteenth observance.

Are any of us surprised, except perhaps, for Susan Collins?

When we speak of the proper role of the media, remember that the media created Trump.

Rather the myth of Trump being a successful businessman who would bring that business genius to the Oval Office.

Yes, many GOP voters are racists, but not all. (Please, it cannot be all of them!!) For some, their only exposure to Trump prior to 2012 was watching him perform on reality television. And these viewers only saw the finished product. They did not see how the producers had to selectively edit the shows to make Trump sound coherent, and competent.

For the US corporate media, that 90% that is owned by 6 large corporations, news is treated no differently than entertainment. It is merely an advertising platform that enables the corporate media to be very profitable.

So the fact that Trump is, and was, an idiot, the fact that Trump is nearly incoherent in his only language, the fact that Trump demonstrates daily that he knows nothing about nearly every subject, was seen as a minor obstacle that a smart editor could coverup.

To counter that media bias for appearance, we must create our own platforms, often using online media, to counter the tendency of the US corporate media to barely touch the surface of things.

And from now until November, we must all do what we can to generate enthusiasm among voters so that the blue tsunami makes the 2018 wave look like a ripple.
