guillaumeb's JournalThe Right-Wing War on American Voters
From the article:
And thats just one method of voter suppression currently in use. In Tennessee, an African-American voter registration effort was effectively criminalized by legislative action. In Florida, a voter referendum restoring rights for formerly incarcerated citizens was undercut by Republican lawmakers who limited its scopewhile also passing a law designed to cut down on student voting. In Texas in 2018, a precinct at Prairie View, a historically black university where students have long struggled to exercise their franchise, had its early-voting hours cut back to fewer than half of others in the area. Here we go again, student Jayla Allen later recalled thinking when she heard the news.

If one cannot win the debate, prevent the other side from voting. That is the GOP way.
Are liberals afraid of saying the "c" word? (sarcasm alert)
At this time of year, the right wing loves to issue dire warnings about the supposed war on Christmas. Yes, the c word, Christmas. This meme is nonsense, of course, but in the alternate universe of FOXlandia, we are told that there is a war on Christmas, and of course a war on Christians.
Liberty Counsel is also promoting a Prager U video published a few years ago in which right-wing propagandist Dennis Prager explains why saying Happy Holidays is not, as you might think, an inclusive approach to the holiday season in a diverse society. Instead, he claims that not using the word Christmas is hurtful. Prager portrays public-facing employees as being afraid to use the C-word for fear of violating all the sensitivity training theyve had to undergo. Prager insists, Of course its a war on Christmas, which he says is really a war on the religious nature of America.

What this is really about is spreading fear and dividing people so the 1% can continue stealing from the rest of us.
I give thanks today.
First, of course, for my wife. She actually saw something in me that allowed her to decide to say "yes" to my proposal 40 years ago.
And for my family. Even the ones whose political opinions I do not share.
And for my friends, including at DU. This place is a haven for many, especially those living in GOP areas.
And for being informed enough to be a Democratic voter.
.
And for living in a very blue area.
And for so much more.
I hope all of you have things to be thankful for, and recognize them.

Per his latest Twitter post, Trump sees himself as Rocky.
What does Melania see him as?
Feel free to post appropriate pictures.
It is beyond bizarre that this reality television character is completely divorced from reality, but even worse is that nearly the entire GOP, and millions of voters, are also disconnected from reality.
West Virginia bishop calls for predecessor, accused of sex and financial misconduct, to pay $792,000
From the article:
The announcement by Bishop Mark Brennan follows a statement in July by Pope Francis that Bransfields replacement should decide how the ousted leader make personal amends.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/religion/2019/11/26/west-virginia-bishop-calls-predecessor-accused-sex-financial-misconduct-pay-restitution-apologize/
This "making personal amends" can never erase the horror of the abuse, nor can it do anything for the survivors, but neither can prison, or any other social punishment.
Send them back. Yes, I said it. Send them back!!
And I will not apologize. It is a disgrace that they are even here. They have no respect for US laws, and they add nothing to the country. So they should be jailed and sent back to the country they came from. And yes, one of them deliberately gave birth to a baby so she could stay here, and bring over her chain migrating parents, but I say send her back with her parents and her child.
I am speaking, of course, of Melania Trump and her parents.
Mike Pompeo Just Used Russian Propaganda At Press Conference
From the article:
The Secretary of State just stood up before the cameras on national television and gave his support to Trumps attempt to solicit foreign election interference by repeating Russian propaganda.
Ukraine did not hack the DNC, or interfere in the 2016 election. There is no server. It is all a piece of conspiracy theory propaganda pushed by Russia to attack Ukraine and give them more room to attack the United States in 2020.

And Pompeo's lies will be repeated by the GOP, and FOX.
I tried to rob a bank, but was caught.
I tried to steal a car, but was caught before I could do so.
I offered someone $10,000 to kill someone, but that someone was an undercover policeman.
So in all three cases, am I guilty of attempting to commit a crime, or innocent because I failed to complete the attempt?
Bonus question for SCOTUS scholars.
We all know that money=speech because the SCOTUS tells us it is so.
Consider this situation.
I am speeding and get stopped by the police, If I hand my license to the officer and wrap the license in a $50 bill, can I argue that the law is unfair and be innocent of attempted bribery?
The various Trump/GOP arguments would be funny if the situation were not so serious to a functional democracy.
Speaking of the idea of censure as a "safer" alternative to impeachment...
what leads anyone to believe that any GOP Congress member would support censure?
The GOP defense of Trump now seems to be, yes, he did it, he demanded a payoff, but that is not impeachable. And we know that this GOP defense has evolved many times, mainly to fit new evidence that is revealed, but it is obvious, or should be obvious, that no matter what evidence or no matter who many separate offenses there are, the GOP will never vote to do anything.
If the House were to merely pass a motion to censure, it would be with zero GOP support or votes.
And the same goes for the GOP controlled Senate. Yes, Susan Collins would express her sincere concern, and perhaps one or two others as well, but any motion to censure would never pass a floor vote.
Because Trump is having lunches with certain Senators,
could such lunches be seen as an attempt to tamper with the jury if the House votes to impeach?
https://www.politicususa.com/2019/11/21/susan-collins-trump-lunch.html
Trump is aware that the Senate will be both Judge and jury in this matter. Is this improper, and could it be seen by the House as another reason to open another investigation?
