Lighten up, and watch this!

Things have gotten so serious here on DU lately!
That's not necessarily a bad thing, but every now and then we could all use a good laugh, and this TED Talks video may be just the thing to at least put a smile on your face.

Just don't try this at home.

This is all we need: Tebow for Congress

After a ignominiously failed professional football career, Tim Tebow is now being groomed by Faux Noose as a potential politician. And rather than suggesting that he run for a local school board or city council position (baby steps), the bubble-headed, gushing cable-TV personality suggests that he actually run for Congress.

Yeah, he is something of a local celebrity -- making the rubber chicken circuit, visiting and promising to pray for sick children, and otherwise trying to find something useful to do with his life. But suggesting that he run for a seat in Congress?!? Are you fucking kidding me?

Can't you just see him at the Capitol, with biblical links inscribed under his eyes? Making the Tebow kneel when a favorite piece of legislation passes?

Has he truly exhausted all the other options for washed-up jocks, such as teaching/coaching at the high school or even college level, adding his commentary to sports coverage on local TV/radio stations. selling insurance, real estate or used cars?

Beam me up, Scotty. There's no intelligent life on this planet!

"I Need a Bogle for the Glotch!" - Bad Lip-Reading does Cruz!

Yes, I know: they're cheap laughs, but this video should bring a smile to your face, (if you can stand to look at Grandpa Munster for three minutes).

Dear tRump: We've Seen This Before. It Doesn't End Well.

Normally, I don't sign on-line petitions, but if I could sign this one, I would!

Their goal is to get 5,000 signatures and they're up to 3,181 on Saturday morning.

In politics we know the Nazi comparison isn’t to be used lightly. But when a politician suggests following the actual path of the Nazis, we have to be bold. As American Jews we must demand he answer for his dangerous rhetoric.

The idea that any group of American citizens should be singled out, profiled and discriminated against isn’t only profoundly un-American. It’s against everything that we stand for as American Jews.

That’s why we’re creating our own ‘registry’ to fight back. We need thousands of American Jews to be courageous and stand up against Trump’s terrifying plan. By acting quickly and acting together we can get the attention of national media and force Trump to be held responsible.

When we say “never again” we mean it.

Attended the 1st Bernie campaign-organizing meeting in my neighborhood today

We has six diverse supporters at the meeting, DEEP in a heavily-Gerrymandered, Red-prone city. Nonetheless, our commitment is strong because our cause is righteous, especiously in light of the recent action by the House, vis-a-vis Syrian refugees.

Our "host" was a no-show, but we generated a lot of good ideas on our own, and promised to meet again next month -- our state's primary will be in March.

Any suggestions on how we could expand our grassroots campaign? My recommendation was to work one-household-at-a-time, block-by-block.

A tRump follower's wish list

I received this email from an acquaintance in another state, and my first reaction was to delete it after reading the first sentence.

But then I thought: this is too good not to share, and where better than here on DU?

There is actually one point one which we agree, but for entirely different reasons -- see if you can pick that one.

Subject: Here is all we want

This is why Trump is zooming ahead. He is at least talking about issues that most Americans are concerned about. My mantra about Trump is this: I am in agreement with most of what he says. I just wish someone else was saying it but support his ability to get things done.
We are getting older and our tickers aren't what they used to be...so here is Our Special Bucket List for 2015,16...
HERE IS ALL WE WANT..
1. Hillary: in prison!
2. Put "GOD" back in America!!!
3. Borders: Closed!
4. Congress: On the same retirement & healthcare plans as everybody else
5. Congress: Obey its own laws NOW!
6. Language: English only!
7. Culture: Constitution, and the Bill of Rights!
8. Drug Free: Mandatory Drug Screening before & during Welfare!
9. NO freebies to Non-Citizens!
10. Balance the budget.
11. Stop giving away our money to foreign countries! Charge them for our help! We need it here.
12. Fix the TAX CODE!
13. IMPEACH the DICTATOR!!
And most of all.
14. "RESPECT OUR MILITARY AND OUR FLAG!!"

We the people are coming!
Only 86% will send this on. Should be a 100%.
What will you do?
Please send it on; if to only one person.

I agree with number 4. Elected Representatives and Senators should be required to participate in Social Security (especially once the income cap is raised). Furthermore, I believe that there should be one health care plan for all Americans: single-payer. OK, number 5 kinda' makes sense too.

I welcome your comments about the entire "bucket list" and will probably ruin someone's holiday by rebutting many of these arguments to the tRump-ite.

Anonymous Declares War on ISIS After Paris Attacks

Source: Huffington Post

After the Islamic State (ISIS) claimed responsibility for Friday’s wave of attacks that killed more than 130 people in Paris, the hactivist collective Anonymous declared war on the terrorist faction and its supporters.

"Make no mistake: Anonymous is at war with Daesh," the enigmatic hacker group wrote on Twitter over the weekend, using an alternative name for ISIS.

Perhaps the Repug Presidential Candidates should join Anonymous...

"AMAZING" technology at work - replacing humans

Just ran across a post on FB, commenting on how "AMAZING" this piece of equipment is.
https://www.facebook.com/betty.brockporter/videos/10205953371726656/

The first thought to cross my mind was "How many good-paying jobs does this one machine replace?"

The second thought was "The Koch Brothers -- and their minions in Georgia Pacific and others in paper/wood-pulp industries -- are probably dancing a Hitler-esque jig over how this enhances their profits." (You can thank me later for avoiding orgasmic metaphors here).

Mind you, I'm well aware of the need for progress and efficiency in forestry and other agri-business. However, marveling at robotics technology should be tempered with consideration of those who are impacted directly or indirectly. That's the difference between unbridled capitalism and democratic socialism.

That's MY PRESIDENT!

At a Democratic fundraiser in Manhattan last night, President Barack Obama told the crowd what he thought about the Republicans' clown car of presidential wanna-bes:

“Have you noticed that every one of these candidates says, ‘Obama’s weak. Putin’s kicking sand in his face. When I talk to Putin, he’s going to straighten out’?” Mr. Obama asked a crowd of Democratic donors in New York, referring to President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia.

“And then it turns out they can’t handle a bunch of CNBC moderators at a debate,” he added to huge applause from his partisan audience. “I mean, let me tell you,” he added with gleeful scorn, “if you can’t handle those guys, you know, then I don’t think the Chinese and the Russians are going to be too worried about you.”

Rubio quits Senate

Or as one Florida daily newspaper put it, "...It's go to the White House or go home."

The Washington Post broke the story this morning:

Marco Rubio is a U.S. senator. And he just can’t stand it anymore.

“I don’t know that ‘hate’ is the right word,” Rubio said in an interview. “I’m frustrated.”

This year, as Rubio runs for president, he has cast the Senate — the very place that cemented him as a national politician — as a place he’s given up on, after less than one term. It’s too slow. Too rule-bound. So Rubio, 44, has decided not to run for his seat again. It’s the White House or bust.

Stay tuned. Film at eleven.
