Firestorm49's JournalWith regard to having a difficult time transitioning into a YouTube video from DU,
a simple solution is to just copy the headline of the video that you want to view, go to You Tube and paste it into the search window.
In my case, hitting the play button on the DU site directed me to sign in to YouTube, which I already was, then when in Youtube, the video in question never appeared. It became too frustrating to begin a search at that point. Copy and paste works just fine and it has kept my blood pressure down. 😜
Is this happening to everybody or just me?
When hitting on a post with a video, Im taken to a screen that says I must sign in to YouTube to view the video.
First, Im already signed in to YouTube at the time.
Secondly, when I hit it to sign in I am directed into a page of videos that have nothing to do with the one from DU that I wanted to see.
Am I the only one having this problem or is there a setting to get directly into YouTube to view a video, as I used to do for years.
I will not spend half of my morning chasing down a video.
Conversation with a reasonable Republican.
On our current trip to Switzerland, my wife and I took a small group tour - two couples and a beautiful guide. The other couple are from TX. Shes a Democrat and hes a Republican.
Not wanting to stir the hornets nest, I chose to avoid politics, but that horse dont run too long.
He is a former military man. What was surprising is that he said he wouldnt vote for Trump. I honestly believe that there are a lot of Republicans who do in fact realize that the Trump is fucking crazy.
We agreed on many things. Surprisingly he had compassion for immigrants, at which point I said he had the attribute of woke. We agreed on border security, the security of our country and many more issues. I agreed with some of his beliefs as well.
All I can surmise is that there are a lot of Republicans out there who know that TFG is a threat. He wont vote for Harris but also wont vote for Trump. We had a good long conversation and it left me with more hope than despair.
Forgive me if I dont reply to follow-up comments as Ill be on the road again tomorrow.
My discussions with a Texas Republican - not what you think

I recently walked in to a store that sells two wheeled vehicles. There were three associates on the floor.,
One employee was waiting on a customer. The other two couldnt have cared less that a potential customer was in the store to buy something. When nobody approached me, I eventually walked out. I prefer not to have to beg someone to take my money. I expect some form of service in exchange.
The next day I received a survey (!!!) to tell of my experience at the store, which I did in vivid pissy detail. The whole point of this diatribe is that I was offended (majorly pissed) that I was identified simply by walking in their door and subsequently asked to do a survey. To me, this was an infringement of my privacy.
I dont know to him I should bitch - my Senator, Ron Johnson? Fat chance. I doubt that he can even read. Tammy Baldwin. Perhaps but shes not my Senator. Someone locally? I dont know.
We are all being identified on a daily basis and I for one object in the strongest of terms. I am writing this after reading the Tic Toc post on DU. Yes, this post is somewhat unrelated to the basis of the TicToc post, but still falls into the realm of that soon to be forgotten word, PRIVACY!
I apologize. I seldom look to see if I have been sent an
email in DU. I now see that there have been several emails and I pledge to respond to each of them. I get so engrossed in going down all of the categories that I havent noticed the emails. Ill kick myself around the room a few times and be more cognisant in the future. Im not the stuck up prick that I have appeared to be - at least thats what I tell myself.
Peace
And then there's this little tidbit.
Had the insurrectionists been black or Hispanic in majority on Jan. 6th., I have little doubt that 1) they would have been massacred by the National Guard on the steps, and 2) there would already have been riots in the streets.
On the other hand, I am relieved as to how many of the deplorables (thank you Hillary) have been rounded up and incarcerated, but I also believe that the scenario would have been significantly different had the rioters been colored.
Hey all you DU cats and kittens, thanks for the hearts. I remain rather obscure here on DU, but appreciate
knowing that some of my bloviating is being recognized.
What's the little red box on posts?
Ive been through the settings area and cant find what the red box is for. Can anyone help this old coot?
