State Republican Party launches online petition supporting … Bernie Sanders

MANCHESTER, N.H. —The state Republican Party on Monday is launching an online petition urging the state Democratic Party's superdelegates to “listen to their constituents” and support New Hampshire primary winner Bernie Sanders at the party’s national convention.

Sanders won the primary vote by a margin of 60 percent to 38 percent over Hillary Clinton, but he appears to be tied with Clinton in the state delegate count. See last week’s WMUR.com report on how delegates of both parties are chosen here.

“How is this possible?” the NHGOP petition says. “Because Democrats have set up an undemocratic system that allows party elites called ‘super delegates’ to single-handedly cancel out the votes of thousands of grassroots activists.”

SoonerPoll: Clinton remains frontrunner, but Sanders continues to rise

The latest SoonerPoll for the Democratic Presidential ballot should worry Hillary Clinton. While she maintains just a 16-point lead now, that lead has narrowed from 25 points just in the last week and half, and a 34-point lead in November.

Media reports over the last six months have not been kind to Clinton and news just yesterday that the FBI formerly confirmed she was under investigation won’t help either. Still, Clinton commands over four-in-ten Oklahoma likely voting Democrats, but seems unable to break 50 percent even after Martin O’Malley dropped out of the race after the Iowa Caucus.

Bernie Sanders however, a self-identified Democratic Socialist, continues to gain votes in Oklahoma among Democrats, increasing to 28 percent from a humble start of 12 percent.

What remains interesting in the race is the still 28 percent of Democrat likely voters that remain undecided in the race. Further analysis shows the greatest percentage of undecideds are conservatives voters, who have watched both candidates in the debates vie for who is the most progressive or liberal.

Sanders riding momentum as Texas voting begins

But, as he has nationally, Sanders, a 74-year-old independent senator from Vermont, is waging an unexpectedly potent assault in Texas by tapping into widespread anger over Wall Street corruption, pay-for-play politics, social inequality and other ills.

League, 45, wearing a black T-shirt emblazoned with “Bern the White House” in a mock presidential seal, said he and his wife, Karrie, are aligned with Sanders because of his promised reforms of big banking and the nation’s campaign finance system. “One thing that really bothered us was the 2008 financial crisis and the fact that nobody went to jail over it,” he said.

Those on board the Sanders bandwagon include an eclectic mix of longtime Democratic progressives — former Texas Agriculture Commissioner and nationally known populist Jim Hightower is one of Sanders’ leading surrogates — as well as college students and other young people, many of them first-time participants in political activism.

“It really is a broad coalition. That’s not just a talking point,” said state campaign director Jacob Limon, who is on leave of absence as chief of staff for Democratic State Rep. Nicole Collier of Fort Worth to run Sanders’ operations in Texas.

Mississippi Berning:

They caucused today and were elected precinct delegates. The MS Democratic Party rep said that they were not prepared for the fact that Bernie now has more supporters than Hillary does in their state.
