Fact-checking the New York Democratic debate

Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders battled in Brooklyn in the ninth Democratic primary debate, leaving no feelings spared and no attacks unused.

The candidates shirked their usual congeniality and tussled over their approaches to foreign policy, Wall Street regulation, raising the minimum wage and gun control during their last debate before the state’s April 19 primary election.

**IMPORTANT** NY State Senate Special Election April 19!!!! Senate Majority At Stake!

http://liherald.com/stories/This-primary-day-theres-a-lot-on-the-line,78512 https://www.nysenate.gov/district/9 https://ballotpedia.org/New_York_State_Senate_District_9

There will be a special election on April 19th for the vacant seat of Dean Skelos, the former Majority Leader of the NY State Senate arrested on corruption charges. The district is on the South Coast of Long Island and includes the cities of Rockville Centre, Oceanside, Woodmere and Valley Stream.

Todd Kaminsky is the Democratic candidate here and it is ABSOLUTELY VITAL that all Democratic voters in that district vote for him. If Kaminsky wins, Democrats will retake the NY State Senate (assuming the renegade Independent Democratic Caucus and Simcha Felder switch sides from the Republican caucus). Note that there will be TWO separate ballots, one for the presidential primary and one for the special election. Under NO circumstances should you vote for the Green Party candidate. DO NOT LEAVE THE POLLING PLACE UNTIL YOU HAVE VOTED FOR BOTH THE STATE SENATE AND THE PRESIDENTIAL PRIMARY! GOTV!

URGENT: Majority of New York Polling Places Don't Open Until Noon! Sanders Supporters Need to Know

ASAP if they Are Affected.

Please share the following link and tweet it out. Our voting rights are being suppressed and most people in NY State have no idea they will not be able to cast their ballots until Noon. I called one of Sanders' Regional Press Secretaries, and he didn't have this information and no one is publicizing it here in New York that I know of.

Yesterday, by pure happenstance, while checking to see that my county had not changed my registration information from Democrat to Independent (yeah, since Arizona I've been paranoid about such stuff) I discovered something that shocked me. The polls where I live will only be open from 12 Noon until 9 PM, making it difficult for many people who work swing shifts to vote.

I checked today to see if this was a statewide phenomenon, or limited to the cheapskates on my own local Board of Elections. Imagine my surprise when I discovered that outside of New York City and the counties of Nassau, Suffolk, Westchester, Rockland, Orange, Putnam and Erie, where the polls will open at 6 o’clock in the morning, every other county in New York does not open for voting until Noon. Nassau, Suffolk, Westchester, Rockland, Orange, and Putnam counties are all essentially suburbs of New York City. Erie County, which includes Buffalo, is the only outlier in the bunch.

That means the voters in every other county in New York state will lose those six critical morning hours in which to cast their ballots. If you think this doesn't matter, think again. Many poor and lower middle class folks work swing shifts, which will make it much more difficult for them to vote in this election. If you think that seems unwarranted and unfair, and smacks of potential voter suppression, well join the crowd.

Gotta say the more I read about how difficult it is to vote in other states, the more I realize how easy I have it in California.
Anyone can vote absentee, no questions asked. There's early voting. I believe voting starts in the morning hours on election day. And we have primaries where if you are "no party preference" you can vote Democratic. I would prefer totally open primaries but can't beat this with a stick.

NEW YORKERS: Affidavit Ballot, if you're denied voting! DO NOT LEAVE!

Some New York voters have been reporting incorrect or unauthroized changes in their voter registration statuses.

On Election Day, IF YOU ARE DENIED FROM VOTING for ANY reason, request an AFFIDAVIT BALLOT from the poll worker.

By law, an affidavit ballot must be provided for voters who are denied from voting but believe themselves to be eligible.

DO NOT LEAVE the polls without submitting a ballot!

48 hours. 15,000 volunteers. Two million calls.

This weekend we're going to #TakeNYbyPhone. The New York primary on Tuesday is an all-hands-on-deck moment, so we’re setting a huge and ambitious goal that could be the difference between victory and defeat: calling two million voters over the weekend.

Sign up here for as many calling shifts as you can.

If you’ve never made phone calls to voters before, don’t worry. It’s easy. All you need is a computer (or a tablet) and a phone. There’s a simple script for you to follow, and there are volunteers standing by on livechat to help if you get stuck.
