Bernie Called It In A July Tweet

Jul 31, 2015 tweet from Bernie:

"First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win.” - Mahatma Gandhi.

https://mobile.twitter.com/berniesanders/status/627101930561515520

Just as Barack Obama’s stunning upset there helped assure Democrats in later states that a black man could win votes from whites and propelled him to victory in South Carolina and other places, so, too, could a Sanders victory on Feb. 1 in Iowa and then Feb. 9 in New Hampshire ease doubts about the viability of a self-described “democratic socialist,” some said.

“It’s just like the weak spot for Barack Obama was his skin color, but he got cured of that in Iowa,” said Rep. James E. Clyburn (D-S.C.), the party’s leading African American... "If Bernie comes out of Iowa and New Hampshire with big victories — if it’s close in both places, that’s one thing — but if he comes out of there with big victories, hey, man, it could very well be a new day,” Clyburn added.

One Clinton ally on Capitol Hill said some in the party are starting to seriously consider what it would mean for Democrats nationally if Sanders were to win... party officials have gone out of their way to keep the peace with supporters of Sanders, hoping to tap their energy and keep them activated for the general election campaign... The reevaluation of the Democratic primaries — which seemed destined for a Clinton coronation after she recovered from a summer slide amid controversy over her use of a private email system while secretary of state — comes as state and national surveys show her sliding fast once again.

The new dynamic will be on display in South Carolina this weekend, when the Democratic candidates attend a party dinner and then a fish fry hosted by Clyburn ahead of their debate Sunday night. The pre-debate events, expected to draw hundreds of activists, will serve as a chance for Sanders to prove that his campaign has an effective organization beyond the first two states.

Senator Clyburn is FEELING THE BERN. He remembers the racist dog whistles the Clintons employed in 2008 and he is sending a message to us: we can follow in Barack's improbable footsteps to win IA and NH and change the course of this primary race forever.

Unlike establishment DLC types and their corporate paymasters who have corrupted The Party of FDR, both Clyburn and Joe Biden see the value in Bernie's message and our value in the electoral process.

So let's keep doing what we're doing because it is working!

LET'S WIN IOWA and NH!

WaPo: Clinton’s lead is evaporating and her anxious supporters see 2008 all over again

FINALLY!! America's flagship newspaper acknowledges that Bernie is more electable than Hillary!!

Cross posted in GDP (this is my first OP here, though)

"...Sanders, buoyed by the support of independent voters, outperforms Mrs. Clinton in hypothetical general-election matchups in both states among registered voters."

http://www.nytimes.com/politics/first-draft/2016/01/10/bernie-sanders-makes-strong-showing-in-new-polls/

I love it. The New York Times is sticking a fork in Hillary's and Bill's recent electability argument.

Some folks who make a habit of posting national election polls as if the primaries are all over would just love it if Bernie's supporters get disheartened enough to forget that it is independent voters who decide the general election.

Well, that ain't gonna happen! It has become clear even to the MSM's flagship establishment newspaper that Bernie Sanders is the most electable candidate in a general election matchup, not Hillary.

Most, if not all, IA and NH polls do not even take into account first-time voters so IMAGINE what is going to happen in Iowa and NH when millennial voters turn out as they did eight years ago for another Senator who was second place in the polls!

Looks like The People will vote for Change just as they did in 2008. Tomorrow, I am going to a Bernie campaign organizational meeting led by Zack Exley. I can't wait!

Definitely Feeling The Bern here in upstate NY... yep, I think another donation to Bernie is coming on... GO BERNIE!

Bill Clinton Didn't Go To Charity's Fundraiser Until $500K Donation Was Made To Clinton Foundation

“The Clinton Foundation had rejected the Happy Hearts Fund invitation more than once, until there was a thinly veiled solicitation and then the offer of an honorarium,” Sue Royal, the former executive director of the Happy Hearts Fund, told The NY Times.

“This is primarily a small but telling example of the way the Clintons operate,” said Doug White, who directs the master’s program in fund-raising management at Columbia University. “The model has responsibility; she paid a high price for a feel-good moment with Bill Clinton. But he was riding the back of this small charity for what? A half-million bucks? I find it — what would be the word? — distasteful.”

Happy Hearts collaborated more expeditiously in Haiti with the Digicel Foundation, whose founder, the Irish billionaire Denis O’Brien, is a multimillion-dollar supporter of the Clinton Foundation and whose parent telecommunications company benefited from grants from Mrs. Clinton’s State Department.

Clinton Foundation Bills Small Charity for Big Donation

Six months after Bill Clinton accepted a lifetime achievement award at the Happy Hearts Fund gala in June 2014, the Clinton Foundation sent this invoice to the charity, run by the model Petra Nemcova. It sought to collect a $500,000 donation, equal to almost a quarter of the gala’s net proceeds. (The foundation’s bank account number, wire routing number and tax identification number have been redacted.)

I can't see President Obama shaking down small charities after he leaves office.

Firms Paid Bill Clinton Millions As They Lobbied Hillary Clinton

Bill Clinton accepted a total of $2.5 million in speaking fees from companies lobbying the State Department under Hillary Clinton. These fees were paid directly to him, not to the Clinton Foundation. Conflict-of-interest? You decide.

http://www.ibtimes.com/firms-paid-bill-clinton-millions-they-lobbied-hillary-clinton-1899107

Former President Bill Clinton accepted more than $2.5 million in speaking fees from 13 major corporations and trade associations that lobbied the U.S. State Department while Hillary Clinton was secretary of state, an International Business Times investigation has found. The fees were paid directly to the former president, and not directed to his philanthropic foundation....

"The dynamic is insidious and endemic to this system,” said Meredith McGhee, policy director of the Campaign Legal Center, a campaign finance watchdog group in Washington. "The fact is that the wealthiest .01 percent on the outside of government believes -- fervently -- that by paying speaking fees, or making campaign contributions, that it can gain access and influence."

Rules Do Not Apply

Federal ethics rules aim to discourage officials and their spouses from accepting gifts from interests “seeking official action” from a government agency. But the rules do not apply to speaking fees, said Craig Holman an advocate for tightened ethics structures at Public Citizen, a watchdog group in Washington" so 'the dynamic through which President Clinton has been able to profit from the same companies eager to gain the ear of his wife’s department “poses a very troubling conflict-of-interest situation that is going to continue to dog Hillary over the course of the campaign."'

This will be the order of business in the White House unless Bernie Sanders becomes President.

Happy New Year to all

Thought I'd drop in for a brief intro to be neighborly...

I am a longtime reader of DU news items who lives in the Capital Region of NY, close to where the action is. I first volunteered for Senator Barack Obama in Iowa in 2007 and then trained to be an organizer for the campaign in the summer of 2008. My family and I watched his acceptance speech in Grant Park on 2 November 2008.

It has been a real education in civics to observe the Obama presidency for the last two terms. If it were possible, I am certain he would easily win a third term in this present field.

I recently changed my mind on who I support in 2016 but I hope to avoid food fights and contribute a little to an informed audience of mostly likeminded peers.

Happy New Year from a New Yawker!
