DHAKA: Suspected Islamist militants stabbed a Christian convert to death in northern Bangladesh on Tuesday, the latest in a series of attacks on minorities in the Muslim-majority nation.
The country has seen a surge in Islamist violence in which liberal activists, members of minority Muslim sects and other religious groups have been targeted.
Police said three attackers came on a motorbike and stabbed Hossain Ali, 68, while he was having his morning walk in Kurigram, north of Dhaka.
"They left the scene exploding crude bombs to create panic," Kurigram district police chief Tobarak Ullah told Reuters by telephone.
Ali converted to Christianity from Islam in 1999, he added.

It was a crime that shocked even veteran Afghanistan watchers: a young woman murdered in the capital by a frenzied mob, who beat her with fists and wooden planks in March 2015.
In the orgy of violence, 27-year-old Farkhunda Malikzada’s body was thrown from a roof, run over by a car, then dragged to the trash-strewn banks of the Kabul River and set ablaze — while police failed to intervene.
Her alleged crime: burning pages from a Quran.
That was exposed as false: 49 suspects were rounded up and 13 charged and convicted. The “Farkhunda murder” became an international test for Afghanistan’s shaky judicial system.
But last week — one year after her killing — the country’s highest court reduced the sentences of the convicted men and confirmed a lower court’s decision to quash four death sentences.

A man who allegedly said Allah instructed him to kill was charged Tuesday with stabbing and wounding two uniformed soldiers at a north-end military recruitment centre a day earlier.
While investigators were probing possible terror links, the city's police chief said there didn't appear to any connection to terrorist groups, although it appeared the man had deliberately targeted military personnel.

Tunnel from Pakistan to push in militants: BSF

PURA (JAMMU) Describing detection of 30-metre long tunnel from Pakistan to the Indian side as a major success, BSF on Friday said that it was dug with the aim of pushing in armed militants into Jammu region.
"We were carrying out our regular clearing operations, done monthly, when we found a well-constructed tunnel," inspector-general of BSF, Jammu Frontier, Rakesh Sharma said, noting that it was being dug with JCB machine.
"It was aimed at pushing in militants into Jammu region," he told reporters here.
Terming Thursday's detection a major success, the IG said if not detected in time, Pakistan would have succeeded in pushing in 'fidayeen' and other militants inside Indian territory.
"Pakistan was objecting to our efforts to clear grass as it was anticipating that BSF would be able to detect the tunnel. We resisted Pakistan's attempts and went ahead with clearance operation during which the tunnel was found," Sharma said.

Nanny Accused Of Decapitating Child Says Killing Act Of Revenge For Airstrikes In Syria

MOSCOW — A nanny accused of decapitating a 4-year-old girl and brandishing her head outside a Moscow subway station said during an apparent interrogation captured on video that the killing was an act of revenge against President Vladimir Putin for Russian airstrikes in Syria.
Asked about the video, which was released Thursday, Putin's spokesman said it was difficult to judge the testimony of a woman he called "clearly deranged.''
Gulchekhra Bobokulova, 38, was detained in Moscow on Monday after the child in her care was killed. Video footage posted online Thursday appeared to show police interrogating her. It was not clear where the video originated, and The Associated Press could not verify its authenticity or the circumstances in which it was taken. She appeared to be wearing the same clothes she wore during a court appearance on Wednesday.
In the video, she says the killing of the child was done in revenge. Asked who it was revenge against, she says "the one who has spilled the blood.'' Asked who that was, she replies: "Who spilled it? Putin has been dropping bombs.''
Russia has been carrying out airstrikes in Syria for five months to support Syrian President Bashar Assad's offensive against rebels. Russian officials have flatly denied numerous reports by international aid groups that accuse it of killing not only Islamic State fighters but also Syrian civilians.

Hamed Shafia, Convicted Of 1st Degree Murder In Family's Deaths, Appeals For New Trial

TORONTO — The lawyer for a man who, along with his parents, was convicted of first-degree murder in the deaths of four family members, is arguing his client was a youth at the time of the offences and deserves a new trial.
Hamed Shafia's lawyer is asking Ontario's top court to admit fresh evidence which he says proves the man was in fact 17 and not 18 and a half when his relatives were found dead, and should not have been tried by an adult court.
Shafia and his parents were convicted in January 2012 of four counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of his sisters Zainab, 19, Sahar, 17, and Geeti, 13, and his father's first wife in a polygamous marriage, 52-year-old Rona Amir Mohammad.
The victims' bodies were found on June 30, 2009, in a car at the bottom of the Rideau Canal in Kingston, Ont.

Nanny Accused Of Decapitating Child Didn't Act Alone, Say Russian Prosecutors

MOSCOW — A nanny from Uzbekistan who is accused of killing and decapitating a 4-year-old girl in Moscow was not acting on her own, Russian prosecutors told the court Wednesday.
The 38-year-old woman was spotted outside a Moscow subway station on Monday brandishing the child's head — a horrific scene that was not covered on Russian state television.
Before a Moscow court approved Gulchekhra Bobokulova's arrest for two months, prosecutors told the court they believe there are individuals who "incited'' her to carry out the slaying and they are still at large. The suspect is expected to be charged with murder later this week.
Investigators, however, said earlier that the suspect, who is married, appeared to be mentally unstable.
The motive for the slaying is not known. Bobokulova was the child's nanny, and the child's parents are a middle-class couple, seemingly without government connections or influence.

Thousands attend funeral of Pakistani man who killed governor Salman Taseer

AWALPINDI: Tens of thousands of Pakistanis chanting anti-government slogans on Tuesday attended the funeral of a police officer executed the day before for assassinating a secular governor in 2011 over accusations of blasphemy.
As a precaution against violence, authorities closed all schools and stepped up security in Islamabad and the adjacent city of Rawalpindi, where the funeral of Mumtaz Qadri was held. Roads around key government buildings and diplomatic compounds were also closed off, said police official Ashfaq Tarar.
Qadri's supporters threw rose petals at the ambulance carrying his coffin through Rawalpindi and he was given a martyr's funeral before being buried in Islamabad. Earlier, authorities put a gag order on local media covering the funeral, warning outlets in a letter that they would face closure if their reporting "glorifies extremism."
In response to the gag order, some stick-wielding supporters beat up a local media crew in Rawalpindi, breaking at least one video camera.
Footage posted on social media showed Qadri's supporters jeering Pakistan's information minister Pervaiz Rashid at the Karachi airport. One threw a shoe at the minister, who ducked to avoid it.
Qadri's hanging on Monday triggered street protests in several Pakistani cities. A number of prominent religious leaders, politicians and militant groups in Pakistan had defended his actions.

He was executed for killing secular governor Salman Taseer, who had called for reforms of the country's harsh blasphemy laws. Qadri said he killed Taseer because the governor had allegedly committed blasphemy by campaigning to change the laws and by supporting a jailed Christian woman accused of desecrating Islam's holy book, the Quran.
Pakistan's blasphemy laws allow for anyone convicted of insulting Islam or the Prophet Muhammad to be sentenced to death, though people often take the law into their own hands.
The January 2011 assassination horrified Pakistan's relatively small liberal elite. However, many Pakistanis, including some in the religious establishment and in legal circles, praised Qadri.
Tens of thousands of Qadri's supporters walked for miles to reach the funeral venue as police had blocked most of the roads for traffic, said police official Mohsin Abbas.
Many chanted in support of Qadri while others carried posters with photographs of the former officer.

Hillary's Email Problem
This email problem has been overblown to hurt Hillary - mostly by the desparate republicans who probably held a focus session and decided that this was a way to bring her popularity down.
How do I know this?
Logically, what is the accusation? She had a private email server set up? Most other politicians have done the same thing. Her emails are around if anyone wants to retrieve them - as evidenced by the fact that the emails are being found (this is like the bullshit bush arguments that Hussein was very powerful but we could destroy him in a day).
Nothing has been reported about any wrongdoing in the emails themselves. If she wanted to do something, I think she was rich enough (you know from her speaking fees) to buy her own private smart phone.
