Brett Kavanaugh 'likely' to be investigated for perjury, House judiciary member says

A freshman Democrat selected to serve on the House Judiciary Committee has told his constituents the panel will “likely” investigate claims accusing Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh of perjury during his controversial confirmation hearings last year.

Joe Neguse, a Colorado Democrat elected in 2018 to serve the state’s second congressional district, told supporters on Friday the committee could move to impeach the newly-appointed justice if their findings prove he knowingly lied to lawmakers during his confirmation process.

Donald Trump’s second pick to serve a lifelong appointment on the Supreme Court was alleged to have provided misleading statements surrounding sexual assault accusations levelled against him by Deborah Ramirez, a former Yale classmate.

“There’s no question [Kavanaugh] committed perjury during the confirmation hearings and so forth,” Mr Neguse said on Friday. “I think the Judiciary Committee is likely to take that up.”

California Town Launches 'Goat Fund Me' Campaign to Prevent Wildfires

https://www.care2.com/causes/california-town-launches-goat-fund-me-campaign-to-prevent-wildfires.html

After the Camp Fire—the deadliest and most destructive wildfire in California’s history—burned over 153,000 acres and took at least 88 lives in November, the little Northern California town of Nevada City (population: 3,136) came up with a plan. To clear 450 acres of fire-prone, city-owned vegetation, the city would rent goats to eat it. This fire safety measure is not at all unusual. There’s a term for it: “prescriptive grazing”.

But there was one major problem: nearby ranchers had already rented out all their grazing goats for most of 2019. Goats were only available this winter, and there wouldn’t be time for Nevada City to receive a grant to pay for them.

“No one is going to save us. FEMA is not coming in, right? The cavalry is not coming in,” Vice Mayor Reinette Senum said. “It’s us or it’s nobody and this town knows that. We’ve seen the cautionary tale of Paradise. We don’t want that.”

As a way to cover the cost in the interim, Senum launched a “Goat Fund Me” online campaign last month. Six weeks after the campaign started, it had raised over $16,000 of its $30,000 goal.

Sure beats trying to rake it. We're getting ready to fence in a stretch of our woods for goats and donkeys to clear out the underbrush.

OMG, UNBELIEVABLE! 1958 TV Show Predicts Trump And His Wall

Sometimes life is just so strange and uncanny!

This is amazing: In 1958, CBS aired an episode of Trackdown in which a con man attempted to sell a town a “wall” in order to protect them from the fake threat of a meteor shower.

Guess what the con man’s name was? Trump.

The show’s main character (Robert Culp) ultimately exposes Trump as a fraud who was plotting with the town’s sheriff to sell the wall, enrich himself and then get out of town. His final words: “You’re under arrest Trump.”

This is like an episode from Twilight Zone, you can’t get any weirder or more prescient!

Snopes agrees with the authenticity of this:

Trump Cannot Build His Wall By Declaring a "State of Emergency."

https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2019/1/6/1824039/-Trump-Cannot-Build-His-Wall-By-Declaring-a-State-of-Emergency?detail=emaildkre

In the latest manifestation of head banging against wall temper tantrums, Trump has shutdown the government over wall funding and threatened to go one unconstitutional and impeachable step further. Trump is threatening to declare a “state of emergency” and build his wall under that authority. Having promised the American people that Mexico would pay for the wall Trump is now threatening to declare a “state of emergency” to compel the American taxpayer to pay for the wall.

Article I, Section 9 of the Constitution is clear on this.

No Money shall be drawn from the Treasury, but in Consequence of Appropriations made by Law.
Statutory law combines to impose penalties for the kind of misappropriation of funds suggested by the President.

The Misappropriation Act States:

(a) Appropriations shall be applied only to the objects for which the appropriations were made except as otherwise provided by law. 31 USC 1301
The so-called Anti-Deficiency Act provides:

(1) An officer or employee of the United States Government or of the District of Columbia government may not —

(A) make or authorize an expenditure or obligation exceeding an amount available in an appropriation or fund for the expenditure or obligation 31 USC 1341
Finally, the law provides for a two year prison sentence for violating the Anti-Deficiency Act:

An officer or employee of the United States Government or of the District of Columbia government knowingly and willfully violating section 1341(a) or 1342 of this title shall be fined not more than $5,000, imprisoned for not more than 2 years, or both. 31 USC 1350
As for a mythical and completely fabricated “state of emergency” authorizing this unconstitutional and illegal circumvention of Congress, the relevant case would be Youngstown Sheet & Tube Co. v. Sawyer, 343 U.S. 579 (1952). President Truman issued an Executive Order seizing the steel industry to avoid a potential steel strike that he believed would cripple the war effort. Yes, he had a stronger case, we were actually at war in Korea.

The article includes the finding of the Supreme Court when Truman tried to take over the steel mills as a "State of Emergency". He lost, even though we were at war with Korea at the time.
