About Me

I've been a member of DU since the very beginning....after that horrible fiasco - the sElection of 2000. My first user name was Lindsey, then I changed it to Nirvana555, and now it's Upthevibe. I had devices crash and I ended up having to change my user name. I've never been one to make a whole lot of original posts, but I consider myself a very active member in that I come to DU almost every day and read the wonderfully informative threads. I can't imagine what life would have been like over the past two decades without DU!

Have any of you ever worked for the DNC or another national organization

during an election cycle?

I've volunteered (for a local California group making phone calls for Raphael Warnock) but I need to generate income.

Thanks for any feedback!

I'm going to have to go against my natural inclinations

because as the saying goes: We can't take knives to a gunfight.

My natural instinct is to be positive, give others the benefit of the doubt, listen to both sides of the story. Having said that, I'm going to need to volunteer and do whatever else I can do to help the Democrats win The House, The Senate, and The Presidency. This will involve negative advertising.

An obvious example is the situation with Lauren Boebert. The video of her at the Beetlejuice show needs to be played on a regular basis in Colorado and maybe even other states (as a representation of who the Republicans are).

As most of us know, she barely beat her opponent (D) in the last election. I feel strongly that we need to be very aware of other Representatives in other states who are in similar situations where we can win.

There needs to be a lazer focused plan in place and implemented like never before! I wish I could get a job working in this arena for the upcoming cycle. I really need to spend some time to see if this is an option.

I need Catalytic Converter advise......

Mine was stolen in December, 2020. I was able to get what's called an "aftermarket" one since they were a lot less expensive (it still cost $1000)! It passed the smog check in 2021 but I had to bring my "aftermarket" paperwork.

In California, we must have our cars smog checked every-other year before we can renew our registration. Unfortunately, when I took my car in this week, the mechanic said that the "aftermarkets" were only eligible for a couple of years (it may have been because there was a shortage due to COVID).

I ABSOLUTELY can't afford to get one from the dealer because my understanding is they're thousands of dollars ($3,000 +). I can't even afford $!,000!

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Does anyone know who the woman in this picture is?

I'm watching Chris Hayes and this picture came up (I don't think it had anything to do with the story).

I'm just wondering who this woman is (if she's an actress, celebrity, etc.).

Common sense gun laws.........

A friend of mine (who's I'm currently working for/with in Tx. over the summer) is a wonderful progressive.

She's educated and while she doesn't keep up with political events the way I do, she's quite informed.

She's been an advocate of common sense gun laws, has volunteered with a variety of organization, had made financial contributions, etc. A couple of times she said that she wished some of the laws (guns) had been passed when President Obama was first elected and had both The House and The Senate. I tell her I would think that they probably did everything they could.

Having said that, I'm not exactly sure what happened during that time. I have mentioned to her it was only a two year period (1/20/09-1/3/10) that he has both chambers.

Also, there was soooooooo much happening during that period.

Do you guys have any information about any what was happening with gun law reform during that time?

Thanks for any links and feedback...

Barbie blew my mind............

OMG!

I'd heard good things and it exceeded my expecations many times over.

The message is simply amazing........I don't know what else to say......... (The crying is an epiphany, major feeling of depth cry)...........

Has anyone ever used a tax relief/negotiating

organization?

A good friend of mine owes between $30-40,000 for last year because she sold her condo and she mishandled the tax situation.

Thanks for any input/advise you can give.

I need suggestions for Novellas......

I'm very excited that I'll have a long-term teaching assignment (one month) for 11th graders starting in October!

I'm a permanent substitute teacher (as of 2019 when I left the career college arena) for an amazing high school! It's probably one of the most progressive schools in the entire state of California, and I just love it there.

The 11th grade English Literature teacher is going on paternity leave when his wife has their baby (due 10/6/23). He and I had a wonderful discussion yesterday and we really want the books to be engaging for the students. He's 0 for 2 in terms of the books he's chosen the past two years (Farenheit 451 and 1984- the kids just weren't into them).

We're going to have several selections so they can choose which book interests them. We'll probably have around six groups of five per group (he has four classes with around 30 students per class).

We definitely want books that are only around 100-150 pages. The theme is resilience. We're also going to require them to have several real-world comparison texts/articles that are in alignment with what they're reading.

I apologize that my post is so long but I just wanted to explain the situation.

Soooooooooooo................... I'd love to hear any of your suggestions!

Dallas - Reiki Practitioner..

Hi Everyone

Does anyone have a Reiki Practitioner they can recommend in the Dallas area? I want to gift a friend of my friend's who's been very helpful.

I'm in Texas working over the summer (I'll be back home in California in September). I know I can google it but I thought DU'ers might have some personnel recommendations.

Thank you!
