Camile Paglia on Hillary's Sleepwalking

For the Nth time raised to the third power, why Bernie won't quit:

The article’s floating of the idea of a Joe Biden-Elizabeth Warren substitute ticket (which I’ve been privately predicting to friends all year) is so evenly and magisterially phrased that I wondered if the text had been vetted by an approving White House. So this may be why Bernie Sanders (my candidate) has gone into overdrive—not to damage Hillary, as her acolytes spitefully claim, but to fight off the tactical insertion of Biden at the Democratic Convention in Philadelphia. Sanders could rightly claim, on the basis of his long and strenuous primary campaign, that if anyone deserves the nomination vacated by a tarnished Hillary, it is he. If Sanders does defer to Biden, it will only be via enormous concessions, beginning with the unceremonious removal of devious DNC chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz.

Keep repeating the weak meme about Bernie looking like a sore loser, dead ender, bitter ender, yada, yada, yada, woo, woo, blah, blah, blah to your heart's content.

Oh yeah, FACTS! MATH! THE VOTERS!

Nobody cares, because Bernie is in it to win it. The fat lady don't sing until the Democratic Convention Soap Opera is over.

Bernie Wins California!

Because David Dayen Says So:

Bernie Sanders Has Already Won California

This is why we fight:

Delegates and vote counts and nominations aside, Sanders’s campaign has reinvented Democratic politics in California. When—not if—his progressive successors rebuild the coalition, it will change liberal politics, both here and across the country.

And will keep fighting to the bitter end.

Obama's Fracking Legacy

Obama Administration OKs Offshore Fracking in California

The Center for Biological Diversity, the environmental group that filed a lawsuit that resulted in the moratorium, said Friday it is considering filing another suit in light of the agencies' decision.
"Offshore fracking is just an incredibly dangerous activity and we certainly wish the federal government was taking stronger actions to protect our oceans and our coast," Miyoko Sakashita, the director of the center's oceans program, told the Union-Tribune.

Let's see. (1) Off-shore fracking. (2) TPP. (3) Trillion dollar modernization of our bloated nuclear weapons program.

Obama is going out with a big bang for corporate bucks from Super Lobbyists like this:

LEADING DEMOCRATIC SUPER-LOBBYIST and Hillary Clinton bundler Heather Podesta derided President Obama’s lobbying reforms Wednesday, while laughing off concerns about her own sky-high compensation.

“I think Obama hurt himself by taking such an arms-length posture with the Washington community,” Podesta, a multimillionaire who has represented chemical companies, health insurers, and for profit-colleges, told Vox’s Ezra Klein. “By attacking Washington in that way, there was a bit of a brain drain. And a lost opportunity.”

As for the idea of taking money out of politics, “I just find it preposterous,” she said. It is “not the lobbying class that keeps people from taking hard votes, it’s the member themselves,” Podesta claimed.

Yep. No chance of corrupt influence here folks. Move along.

What he said

I'm going to support Bernie Sanders until he’s out of the race and I don’t think there’s any harm in doing that and he’s going to stay in to the end just exactly like Hillary did and she’s not going to be able to say a word about it. The Democratic party is going to have to deal with both Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren when they get to the convention. They’re both keeping themselves in a position to have an effect and that’s fucking democracy.

The dude abides.

Why Berniacs Won't Quit

The Democratic Convention is July 25th-28th. Nobody will be the Democratic nominee until delegates cast their vote and an announcement is made about the results of the vote.

Them's the rules. That's how our Democratic primary system works.

Chris Matthews can call the primary for Hillary on June 7th, but Chris Matthews opinion is not recognized by the Democratic party. Obama, Harry Reid, Barbara Boxer, Nancy Pelosi and Joe Biden can call the primary for Hillary on June 7th, but Hillary will still not be the Democratic nominee.

Them's the rules.

Why Bernie Won't Quit

In case you were wondering:

Back at the podium in downtown Oakland, Sanders says, “My point is that what seems impossible today, in fact happens when millions of people demand that it happens… So on June 7th, let us together create the largest voter turnout in Democratic primary history in California. And let this great state, one of the most progressive states in the country, go on record as saying. ‘Yes, let’s go forward with the political revolution.”

Sanders and his supporters know that they have not just defied expectations with their caucus and primary victories, message of economic justice, and grassroots fundraising and organizing, but that they have altered and shaped the national political narrative in 2016. They know they are heading to the Democratic Convention in Philadelphia in unprecedented numbers—with forty-something percent or more of the pledged delegates—and most of the under-45 vote, representing the party’s and nation’s future.

The future of the Democratic Party and the nation. Two great reasons to vote Bernie.

A Law Hillary May Have Broken

◾ One of the laws that may have been broken is 18 U.S. Code § 793 - Gathering, transmitting or losing defense information.

Note first that the information listed below doesn't require a formal "classified" designation to be relevant, and second, that "intent" is not necessary to trigger the law's penalties. "Gross negligence" is sufficient. Again, my emphasis below:
(f) Whoever, being entrusted with or having lawful possession or control of any document, writing, code book, signal book, sketch, photograph, photographic negative, blueprint, plan, map, model, instrument, appliance, note, or information, relating to the national defense, (1) through gross negligence permits the same to be removed from its proper place of custody or delivered to anyone in violation of his trust, or to be lost, stolen, abstracted, or destroyed, or (2) having knowledge that the same has been illegally removed from its proper place of custody or delivered to anyone in violation of its trust, or lost, or stolen, abstracted, or destroyed, and fails to make prompt report of such loss, theft, abstraction, or destruction to his superior officer—

Shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than ten years, or both.

Robert Kagen Endorses Hillary!

From the May 26th Arch Druid Report:

For the connoisseur of sociopolitical absurdity, the last few weeks’ worth of news cycles very nearly defines the phrase “target-rich environment.” I note, for example, that arch-neoconservative Robert Kagan—the founder of the Project for a New American Century and principal architect of this nation’s idiotically bloodthirsty Middle East policies, a man who never met a body bag he didn’t like—has jumped party lines to endorse Hillary Clinton’s presidential ambitions.

We Shall Overcome

Ok help me out here. Does DU have a problem with Pete Seeger singing The Song?

link:http:// |

How about Joan Baez?

Is it ok for Bruce Springsteen to sing We Shall Overcome?

I don't expect one, but a rational explanation would be nice.

Hillary Is Not Ahead By 3 Million Votes

This was a Shaun King story at The Daily News. (still can't get links to work)
(Shaun Kings story is posted at caucus 99%)

In 12 states where Bernie won, they held caucuses in which individual votes are not tallied in the same way as they are in closed primaries.

For instance, in Washington state, which has nearly 7.1 million people, Bernie won 72.7% of the vote there, but not one single vote is counted toward the numbers where Clinton claims a 3 million vote lead over him.

In Alaska, Bernie won 81% of the vote, but not a single vote is counted toward this tally that the Clinton campaign leans on so heavily. The same is true for Maine. There, Bernie won by 29%, but because all three are caucus states, the vote tallies aren't even included.

It is not possible to tally total votes cast. Bernie could very well be leading in total primary votes cast if it were possible to tally votes in caucus states.
