Still looking for those perfect memes that sum up Trump's ultra Right agenda.

The MPG Catch 22

Here's a Catch 22... gas prices are low... so people feel free to buy gas guzzlers...

But are oil/gas prices low not just because the US is producing more oil... increasing the world supply but BECAUSE we've improved MPG standards to reduce demand? US gas usage in 2015 is LESS than 2007 levels.

FROM: https://www.eia.gov/tools/faqs/faq.php?id=23&t=10

In 2015, about 140.43 billion gallons (or about 3.34 billion barrels1) of gasoline were consumed2 in the United States, a daily average of about 384.74 million gallons (or about 9.16 million barrels per day).3 This was about 1.5% less than the record high of about 390 million gallons per day (or about 9.29 million barrels per day) consumed in 2007.

If oil prices are considered to be inelastic, is undermining progress on efficiency... are we destroying the golden goose? Loose momentum on efficiency... and we return to an inelastic market where any shock can create huge increases in price all out of proportion to supply? Then there's the issue of not transitioning to renewables.

MEME SEARCH: Repeal & Neglect... ChumpCare

Someone here coined or posted the term ChumpCare... which I like, but I was looking for other memes to reframe other phrases the GOP has used such as Repeal And Replace... as if they ever intended to "replace" ACA with anything. So Repeal & Neglect comes to mind. Any others... ?

BULLCRAP ALERT!! Trump claims evidence about his "wire tap" claim to come out in next 2 weeks....

Just as he claimed his Birther investigators were finding interesting things about Obama's birth certificate.

MEREDITH VIEIRA:
You have people now out there searching– I mean, in Hawaii?

DONALD TRUMP:
Absolutely. And they cannot believe what they’re finding. And I’m serious—

Why Do Corporations Get FREE Limited Liability Protection?

The Right wants us to believe that the rich make all their money on their own and who can dispute that hard work and brilliant ideas don't give one an edge in a competitive market? But beneath the surface there are plenty of government freebies that I'd argue vastly contribute to the creation of the uber-rich... freebies like intellectual property monopolies, copyrights, and trademarks... and doesn't Trump claim his "brand" is worth 3 billion? But there are also the benefits of incorporation making it easy to aggregate capital... and its FREE limited liability protection. This protects the private wealth of corporate owners (including shareholders) in the case of corporate bankruptcy even if it screws legitimate creditors.

WHY ISN'T THIS PURCHASED AS INSURANCE FROM THE PRIVATE SECTOR? In this way creditors WOULD be protected.

I can see why the Right will never mention any of the above because they need the Big Lie of individual initiative as a key defense against progressive taxation.

BUT WHY DON'T THE DEMS MAKE THIS ARGUMENT IN DEFENSE OF PROGRESSIVE TAXATION? I know Obama got beat up for his "you didn't make that" comment. But still this IS a legitimate and potentially vital narrative in defending high progressive tax rates.

Shame Rachel Shame! EDIT My Apologies To Rachel!

Leaving aside the scope... nice... just now Rachel said Trump refused to release his taxes and it was litigated in the 2016 election and people voted for him anyway.

Sorry Rachel... YOU CAN NOT SAY the tax issue didn't matter in the election because Trump won. There were TWO elections... one of REAL VOTERS who rejected Trump... and a second EC election

The EC has no "motives". It litigated NOTHING about Trump refusing to release his taxes. The EC is a mindless, antidemocratic, winner take all, voting scheme that has little to do with the REAL motivations REAL voters had. So say otherwise gives false moral legitimacy to the Trump Junta.

EDIT: I got to hear the rerun at

and she's paraphrasing the Whitehouse argument.

ACA would have been EASY to fix....

If one wants a system where the health care parasitic middlemen are still allowed to function... it seems the ACA could easily have been fixed. Create that public option, fix the risk corridors Rubio proudly claimed he sabotaged, and stop breaking the market down by counties. It's this latter feature that allows insurers to pick and choose the markets they want to serve... and can mean the choice is down to one company... or even none.

If There Had Been A Public Option...

IF there had been a public option...

1: No insurance company could charge outrageous rates when it was the only provider in an area... and
2: The GOP's sabotage of the important risk corridors might not have worked.

Am I correct in #2?

About eniwetok

Greetings... what can I say? I'm an old time hippie and anti-war activist from the 60's. I was radicalized then and have always remained political. One's politics can have different aspects. Economically I'm an FDR liberal. Socially I believe in the Ninth Amendment that government has no legitimate power to limit some rights such as responsible drug use, the right to choose, or one's sexual behavior. Politically I'm to the left of the Democratic Party. Why? Over the years I realized the focus of activists should not be stamping out brush fires and putting band-aids on problems. The effort must always be to keep in mind the root of most of our problems such as wealth inequality, growing corporate power, voter apathy, climate change, etc... is an electoral system that is incapable of measuring the popular will and a political system that is incapable of implementing it. Sadly, the Democratic Party seems to need a push to find a greater appreciation for... and to work towards, implementing common sense democratic reforms to both those electoral and political systems.
