George W. Bush dances while mourners grieve Dallas police officers

Eyebrows have been raised after former US President George W. Bush swayed and danced a merry jig onstage during a memorial service for five Dallas police officers killed last week.

Bush seemed out of tune with the gathering, smiling broadly and rocking back and forth while a choir sang The Battle Hymn of the Republic, a popular US patriotic anthem.

The former president held hands with wife Barbara and first lady Michelle Obama in a line of otherwise solemn mourners, and both appeared unsettled and uncomfortable by Bush's behaviour.

Predictably, Twitter users were quick to question what Bush was up to, and whether his behaviour was inappropriate.

Cursing Eric Trump Calls WaPo Reporter Over Coverage Of His Dad's Donations

Eric Trump reportedly called up The Washington Post on Wednesday to profanely rant at the reporter spearheading coverage of the charitable contributions made (or not made) by his father, Donald Trump.

But the younger Trump didn't offer any evidence of those donations.

"I’m just saying, Jesus Christ, why is this guy trying to f---ing kill us?" Trump allegedly told the Post's David A. Fahrenthold.

Fahrenthold had meticulously tried to find corroboration for Donald Trump's claims of generous charitable giving, contacting 200 charities associated with the businessman. The reporter found only one charity that received a donation, in the amount of less than $10,000.

State admits HB 1523 doesn’t protect all

U.S. District Judge Carlton Reeves asked lawyers for the state in court Friday if its controversial "religious freedom law" would protect Mississippians with sincerely held religious beliefs against straight marriage, just as it protects those with sincerely held religious beliefs against gay marriage.

A beat of silence followed.

Paul Barnes, who is defending the attorney general and the registrar of vital records in a lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of House Bill 1523, cleared his throat. Judge Reeves looked at him.

"I'm trying to parse it out," Barnes said.

Almost a minute of silence followed. The other attorneys for the defense, Douglas Miracle and Tommy Goodwin, checked their notes. Someone coughed. Finally, Barnes leaned into his microphone.

At the Democratic National Convention Platform Hearing today he said:

To reinforce the intent and purpose of the Reconstruction Amendments, and to ensure that all of our citizens, including incarcerated persons, have full political rights, the SNCC Legacy Project and those of us who commit to organizing earned insurgencies of people power, champion, in opposition to Chief Justice Roberts, a people's narrative: that the nation rejected both slavery and its assault on human dignity, and altered its slave-tolerating Constitution to give the federal government power to protect the people's rights.

We ask that the national Democratic Party take a revolutionary stance: confirm the right to vote and make it explicit. Adopt in your platform the following statement.

"The national Democratic Party agrees to work for the following voting rights resolution.

Voting Rights Resolution

Section One - The people's right to representation being necessary to our republican form of government, the right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be infringed.

Section Two - The federal branches of government shall protect this right. "

Russian government hackers penetrated DNC, stole opposition research on Trump

Russian government hackers penetrated the computer network of the Democratic National Committee and gained access to the entire database of opposition research on GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump, according to committee officials and security experts who responded to the breach.

The intruders so thoroughly compromised the DNC’s system they also were able to read all e-mail and chat traffic, said DNC officials and the security experts.

The intrusion into the DNC was one of several targeting American political organizations. The networks of presidential candidates Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump were also targeted by Russian spies, as were the computers of some GOP political action committees, U.S. officials said. But details on those cases were not available.

A Russian Embassy spokesman said he had no knowledge of such intrusions.

Donald Trump Refuses to Reveal His Tax Rate: 'It's None of Your Business'

The presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump continued to refuse to release his tax returns and today declined to reveal his tax rate.

Joining "Good Morning America" this morning, ABC News' George Stephanopoulos asked Trump what his tax rate is, and Trump simply replied, “It’s none of your business.”

“You'll see it when I release but I fight very hard to pay as little tax as possible,” Trump said.

The billionaire also said he has no foreign bank accounts and emphasized he runs a “clean” business.

Confrontations Erupt Outside Donald Trump Rally in Costa Mesa

A large group of protesters were gathering Thursday night in the street outside the Pacific Amphitheater where Republican presidential frontrunner Donald Trump kicked off his campaign in the Golden State Thursday night with a huge rally in Costa Mesa .

The event, set to begin at 7 p.m., finally got underway about a half hour later at the OC Fair and Event Center, located at 88 Fair Dr.

A large crowd of people, mostly Trump supporters, started gathering outside the venue hours ahead of the scheduled start time, video from the scene showed.

There were several scuffles outside the event between Trump supporters and those protesting his campaign.
